[Help] How to convert/edit .MP4 files?

Postby Cloudy on Thu Jul 20, 2006 11:37 pm

I got this clip from a friend, and he wants me to help him edit it. Windows Movie Maker doesn't open it, so I thought I should either convert it to a file type that Movie Maker will support... So can someone recommend me a program that edits or converts the .mp4 movie.

I tried to search google, but there weren't much options... I found this program way back from 2004 and it isn't available for download anymore.

Please help asap! Thanks.

All those programs are for converting certain formats into mp4, opposite of what I'm looking for... Maybe I didn't address it properly...

I need to convert a mp4 into something Windows Movie Maker will support. :D

Oh...I thought you wanted to convert some video to mp4 to put it on your iPod or something. I'll see what I can find.
EDIT: See if this helps you...It's a tutorial, gives you links to the programs you need to convert mp4 to avi.

I can't, I put this clip on the timeline... It's seperated as 2 on the timeline, but then I want to cut the middle part of only 1 of them... It only allows me to 'trim' the front or the end, I can't select the middle... :?

Trim the back, put the same (full) clip on the timeline again (from the library) and trim the front.. :?

You know how that little blue bar moves across the timeline when you play the movie? Move that bar to the exact point that you want to cut the clip. Then, with the bar in place, click on the "clip" drop menu at the top of the screen and select "split".

Your video clip will now be split into two separate clips at the point where the blue bar was placed. You can then delete whichever clip you don't need.

I have a lot of experience with WMM, so feel free to ask me for some help if you ever need it!
