Just Another Soldier

Mon Jun 26, 2006 3:12 pm

I just finished reading the book "Just Another Soldier" by Jason Hartley, a National Guardsman who served a year in Iraq. I have to say that this book is one of the best books I have ever read. Now, I'm completely obessed over the War in Iraq but I think a lot of people would like reading this book. It really gets you into what war is like for the soldiers themselves.

I'm one of those guys who never reads. The only thing I read is my Sporting News magazine every week. However, I went to Borders a few weeks ago and picked this book up and I loved it. I'm actually sad that I finished the book. I decided I'm going back to Borders to pick up another Iraq war book tomorrow to start reading. I really fell in love with the book. I just thought I'd share it with you guys and suggest it to all of you. I know a few of you (buca) have served this great country and it might appeal to you.

He actually has a website up (www.justanothersoldier.com) that you can go to and buy the book of amazon. I believe he also has entries that did not make it into the book that you can read. Once again, it's a great book and I suggest everyone give it a shot. I'll let you guys know what book I pick up tomorrow.

Do you just like it, or do you think the average person would like it.

I loved it but I think the average person would enjoy it because it shows what a SOLDIER goes through in Iraq. You'd be surprised that he barely gets into any combat at all. It's not that he isn't in Iraq doing stuff because he is but the lack of enemey engagement is well noted in the book. In fact, the few times that he does fire hsi weapon at people it turns out they are innocent.

Anyways, it's a good book and you get to know the guys that he is with and deployed with. It's pretty funny humor too for a teenage kid because he talks about masterbating and stuff a lot.

By the way, I just went to Borders and picked up "My War". I'm excited to read it.

What makes me so happy in this thread is that Riot is actually starting to enjoy reading books!

We need more people that read books.
