Reccomendations?

I'm after a soccer game to play. (Either xbox, or PC)

What's the best one, gameplay-wise, currently on the market (in your opinions anyway)?

majority of people I hear from rate the Pro Evolution Soccer series over FIFA....I'm guessing PES is the equivalent of the NBA2k series & FIFA is equivalent to Live series....

I'm sure Jae or one of the others will come in & confirm this

That's a good comparison. Pro Evo is great, the people who don't like it are generally those who don't actually watch soccer and just expect to be able to run the length of the field with 1 guy and score whenever they want. Pro Evo is the way to go.

That's probably me in a nutshell. I used to play FIFA 98 or 2001 or whatever, and just fuck on everybody with brazil all the time.

It was fun though. I loved making a breakaway and scoring. Good feeling.

then maybe you should go with FIFA....I myself have always played FIFA backed in 97 & 2001 (like you) & I enjoyed them for the sense that they were good mindless, multi-player games....if you're getting a game just for multi-player, then FIFA should do....if you want single player depth, then you might want to look at PES....

I have both Pro Evo and Fifa, and I think I played Evo for like 24.5secs.
The first thing I noticed was the graphics, they stunk so bad I had to put a peg on my nose. At least thats what I remember.
Anyway, I find that Fifa is much better and has better modes too.

If your a real soccer fan and want a realistic experience go with Winning Eleven/Pro Evo cause it's much better than FIFA in that department. Course if your into glitz and just a normal arcardish soccer experience FIFA is the way to go since it has more licenses and probably gets a nod in the graphics department too and would be popular with small level/bandwagon soccer fans. Rent out both games and see which one you like before purchasing it Nick cause opinions can change depending on how much of a Soccer fan you are.

You can still score some spectacular goals in Pro Evo and still have it be realistic. I've got a few good ones saved on my Xbox, like a 40 yard volley from Steven Gerrard that crashed into the bottom of the crossbar and in I don't think the graphics are anywhere near as bad as zmac makes out either.

The graphics are obviously no match for the big budget FIFA (highest selling sports game franchise ever) and the mods are in loads cause of the history and popularity FIFA still has.

If your looking for gameplay and a real feel its Winning Eleven/Pro Evo all the way cause FIFA simply doesn't have that factor yet. I think it's more a soccer addict style of game where the graphics and licenses don't matter but getting a realistic soccer game is. I won't argue with the graphics, they are average when compared to most games in the sports genre these days but they aren't on the stinking bad level. It is a negative to most gamers (graphics that is) hence suggesting to rent both and play them before getting one for the long term specially since I think Nick's not that big on soccer and is probably just bandwagoning the sport cause of the World Cup. Just kidding Nick!

Thanks for the opinions everyone. (And Stevesanity, thanks for yours... twice... lol) So far i'm leaning towards winning eleven for the realism factor. If i liked NBA 2k6 more than NBA Live, then i'd probably like pro soccer more than FIFA. However, FIFA has more licenses, which i like.

Oh, which game has better player ratings? Whichever one does, will probably seal the deal for me. I'm in a soccer learning state (:mrgreen:), good ratings of the players etc will help me learn about all the players. I wouldn't want the ratings to be shitty bang bang.

It's management based obviously, but when I started playing Championship Manager 00/01 years and years ago I knew absolutely nothing about the sport, it completely boosted my knowledge in the space of a few weeks and now that I understand the sport knowing all of these players others might not have heard of gives you an advantage too.

Yeah, even Total Club Manager (The EA equivalent) is not that bad really plus it has those CPU 'TV' matches . FM is certaintly more indepth (cheaper too?) but I think one of the two is ideal if you want to learn more about Soccer.

I credit most of my love for Soccer to my Dad, but I think as for getting to know players and teams it would have to be FIFA and a host of various Soccer management games some of which I can't even remember anymore. I think you can really enjoy Soccer way more if you know the players, teams and various tactics and strategies used cause it increases you understanding of the game otherwise it's basically Ronaldino/Beckham/Zidane running with the ball and scoring goals type of thing.

Pro Evolution is awesome. I have PES 5 and Fifa 06. If you want a game with awesome graphics, then go with Fifa, but I warn you the gameplay sucks compared to Pro Evolution. Although if you want a realistic football game, then go with PES, the graphics arn't as good as Fifa, but PES is better overall.

I agree 100%. I started playing this game based just on Jae, dadamafia and others updates on whats been happening in there games. I new nothing about the sport a before Australia's friendly vs Netherlands, and now i love it. So i reccomend FM2006 aswell. Also, you might be able to pick it up for $40 like i did at EB Games.

I have WE9, the graphics are nice i think, but FIFA definitley has bells and whistles that WE9, such as better rosters with real players, not made up ones like the United States has... and of course its Manager mode is unrivaled, but I do believe the gameplay is a bit more realistic, and players do things without you telling them to that they would in real life, like stabbing for a ball or going for a header.

I've decided to go with Pro Soccer Evolution 5 (on xbox).

What i want is to simulate a real soccer game as best as possible. I watched some videos of both games and PES5 seems to best fit that.

you go to register player, then go down to the 2nd little box.. i think its a diamond. and there you create a player
