Memorial Day

Postby Riot on Tue May 30, 2006 9:12 am

Well, it's Memorial Day in America and there is no better time to think about and thank all of the veterans and current service men who have given their lives and time to defend this great country. I know a lot of you guys don't live in America but it doesn't hurt to think about your own service men and thank them for their sacrafice.

I think a lot of people take the military for granted. I think that is especially true in America. America is involved in a lot of world conflicts and relief efforts and our soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors are over there fighting and serving while we stay at home and complain about our food being cold or a test we have in a few days for school. Just think for one second what those men and women are going through right now. You think about Iraq and the fact that there are 18 and 19 year old boys in a war zone fighting. That's unreal. It takes a lot of courage and a lot of guts to be able to get up everyday for them and we should thank every single one of them.

I just want to thank all of them because they are the best troops in the world and there is no doubt about that. Their sacrafice isn't going un-noticed, atleast in my life. I hope you guys do something to let the troops know how much you care about them. I sent them a letter over the internet telling all the Minnesota Army personal in Iraq to stay strong and that we love them. You can donate money so they can have better supplies because the Army isn't giving them all the proper equipment they need to stay safe over there while fighting. I also donate magazines (ESPN, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, etc) and give them to someone at my mother's work who gives them to some group that sends them to soldiers who are fighting so they have something to read and do in their spare time. Just do those little things that make their life a lot easier while they fight to make ours easier.

I just suggest that you guys do that. You can always find veterans anywhere and most of them would love it if you went up to them and thanked them for their service. Just because you don't believe in the war or you don't believe in your country (for whatever reason) doesn't mean that you should show disrespect to those who were willing to put their life on the line for it. Show some respect and thank them for their ultimate sacrafice. Sometimes, a little thing goes a long ways.

So to all of our troops and veterans out there, Happy Memorial Day and thank you for serving this great country! To all of those who have died defending this country we thank you for your sacrafice and Rest In Peace. You will never be forgotten.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all finnish veterans, those who are still breathing and those who have already passed away. I want to thank you for your courage and sacrifices during the WW2, defending our country from the Soviet Union's army. Even while defeat seemed inevitable, you kept your dreams and hopes alive, and I would like to thank you for that.

1939-1945 won't be forgotten.

Learn something about my country's history:
http://www.wargamer.com/rtm/wintwar.htm

Finland lost 23,157 men dead and about 45,000 men wounded where 10,000 becoming invalid for the rest of their life. Finland estimated Soviet losses being about 200,000 men, where Soviet claimed having lost only 48,000 men. Later Finnish estimations have proved out to be very close to the truth.
