The Divinci Code?

Sun May 21, 2006 11:52 am

I am going through different books to read and I was wondering if the Divinci Code is a good novel to read.......is the book thrilling? interesting? whoever read it, can you give me a review of the book...I heard it was very good..just give me a summary, NO SPOILERS whatnot..

Sun May 21, 2006 11:54 am

Da Vinci is Jesus' father. Sorry, figured I'd spoil it so you didn't have to waste your time.

Sun May 21, 2006 11:55 am

Jae I swear to god I was thinking about writing that. Anyways I don't know shit about the book but I want to read it.

Sun May 21, 2006 12:01 pm

Its not a bad read. Hard to summarize it without giving spoilers though. Go watch the movie.

Yeah....my friend said the same thing...it is hard to summarize without the spoilers...anways, I heard the movie sucked and the book is way better (N)...I'll probably see it and find out myself....

Sun May 21, 2006 12:05 pm

Tom Hanks was cast wrong and my brother said the book is way better then the movie.

Sun May 21, 2006 12:31 pm

the book is better than the movie 99 percent of the time, it is a great book and an easy read....

Sun May 21, 2006 12:32 pm

what is it about? i have like no clue....is it a man trying to find some kind of code? when he finds the code, what happens? what are the effects?

Sun May 21, 2006 1:00 pm

Why don't you read the cotdamn book? You don't want any spoilers or anything, yet you come back asking what happens? :? That's what the cotdamn book is there for, for you to read the cotdamn thing and find out the cotdamn effects and conclusions are.

A little spoiler
It talked about Mary M having Jesus' child and that child becoming part of the Merovingian dynasty.

Havent read the book just heard what its about, if you are into religion I guess its a good read cause it has the potential to wreck everything you believed in otherwise its just some dude creating up drama that doesnt really matter now.

It's one of the greatest book I've ever read. Yeah, DaVinci is gay.

Sun May 21, 2006 7:45 pm

I still don't get what is so great about this book. It's an airport novel with an interesting but fictitous plot, one-dimensional and cliched characters, horrible dialogue and is borderline written by a untalented writer. Don't get me wrong, I get why people like this book, but that doesn't make it a good one. People are generally tools, so 60 million copies are more or less testament to their stupidity and not excellence of the author nor his product. I don't have anything against airport novels, I really don't. I enjoy some of Grisham' and Crichton's better novels, Stephen King and likes. But if you want to read a quality (or at least something close to that) 'pulp fiction' book, choose Palahniuk. You'll get both suspense and something original to think about.

BTW, movie sucks so hard it would make clerics from Equilibrium cry.

i read about one book a year and this year it was the divinci code... Awesome! Movie however was really really gay

Mon May 22, 2006 3:01 am

I read the book and its great. Please dont see the movie

Mon May 22, 2006 7:55 pm

Read Angels and Demons first, it's the first book in the series and it is much better than the DaVinci Code, but in a similar style. I do like the DaVinci code though...but I knew all the info from the book from playing Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned. (A PC Adventure game...my 7th favorite game of all time.)

Not sure how you could say the movie was bad. Well made, in my opinion.

Haven't read the book yet, however. We've got Angels and Demons, waiting to finish my current book before jumping into that one.

Tue May 23, 2006 1:33 am

The movie wasnt really bad if you never read the book. If you read ti then you basically know everything so it takes away the suspense.

Wed May 24, 2006 12:45 am

my take on the movie was that it was a watered down version of the book. it was so-so in my opinion but there was this one detail that they didn't explain in the movie that kinda irked me and my friends.

and IMO angels & demons is better than the da vinci code. another thing to note is that most of dan brown's books use the same formula. they're not literary masterpieces. they only got popular because they're easy reads plus it's usually fast paced. they're like action movies on print in a sense

Wed May 24, 2006 4:22 am

IMO, the book wasn't very well written. The only reason why I enjoyed the read was because the book was themed around Christianity and art, which I have a lot of interest with. Otherwise, it's an easy read and nothing more.

Too bad the movie got poor ratings :(

Wed May 24, 2006 7:27 pm

I agree that Dan Brown's books follow a similar formula. When I was reading Digital Fortress and Deception Point, I was thinking of the "last minute plot twist" so much that I figured it out around halfway through those books.

I just saw the movie today and it was just ok. I don't know what was really THAT bad, but I don't know if Tom Hanks is the best actor for Robert Langdon and of course since I read the book I had no sense of suspense. I kept on laughing and telling my friend jokingly what would happen, since he already knew as well. It was funny saying things like "I wonder what will happen next?" and all that though. Also the movie moves a bit too fast. You hardly really have a chance to think at all, whereas in the book I was actually trying to solve all those puzzles.

Fri May 26, 2006 10:46 am

I had the same experience with digital fortress the other day which I read out of boredom. It came to the point that I am solving the puzzles way earlier than the supposed NSA geniuses

Fri May 26, 2006 1:44 pm

I just bought Angels and Demons at Waldenbooks today... i've heard its a lot better than the sequel.

Fri May 26, 2006 8:12 pm

Yeah it's gorier and more fun
