Thierry Henry sticking with Arsenal.

Postby dada on Sat May 20, 2006 12:14 am

Firstly, I am very disappointed he didnt move to Barca. I kinda saw this coming though because of the way he went out in the Champions Leage Final. Hopefully much success comes to him in the future. At least they got that new stadium. (y)

ESPN wrote:Thierry Henry has confirmed he is staying at Arsenal.

The 28-year-old Arsenal captain, who was in the last year of his former deal, has announced his intention to remain with the Gunners instead of moving to Barcelona, Real Madrid or AC Milan, who were all interested in signing the French international.

He will now lead the team into a new chapter in their illustrious history, as they move into their 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium for the start of next season.

Henry has claimed the spirit shown by his team-mates in Wednesday's Champions League final defeat against Barcelona in Paris, had helped him decide to stay with the north London club.

Henry revealed vice-chairman David Dein and manager Arsene Wenger had both played a huge role in persuading him to stay, as well as the response from Gunners fans since his arrival in 1999.

He said: 'I think you all know, it's not a surprise but I'm staying here to play even longer for the club I love.

'It's been amazing since I joined, there had been so much speculation about me leaving - I won't lie, it crossed my mind. But I think with my heart and it told me to stay.'

Henry paid tribute to Dein and Wenger, telling a press conference televised live by Sky Sports News: 'Without them I wouldn't be talking to you. I just want to carry on writing the story of Arsenal with them.'

Henry led Arsenal to the Champions League final, where they lost to Barcelona on Wednesday.

'In the past year the fans have been more than amazing,' he added.

'After the way we lost on Wednesday, I couldn't let them down. It was another thing to add and a positive thing to make me stay.

'I always refer to Arsenal as my home town. I have been welcomed with open arms, the love I receive here - sometimes from non-Arsenal fans - is something I can't forget about.'

I'm not disappointed, I'm sick of huge name players moving to different teams constantly. Barcelona would basically be in the same despicable category as Chelsea if they signed Henry. They've just won a Champions League after buying guys like Eto'o, Giuly, Ronaldinho, Larsson etc not to mention the fact that they made a run at Beckham a few years back, why would they need one of the most marketable players in the World to go with it? It's nice to see some loyalty (Y)

Now, we all wait as Chelsea announces that they've signed Andriy Shevchenko

I'm disappointed for selfish reasons because its a move to one of my favourite clubs.

Mourinho is admitting that he doesnt believe Shevchenko is coming to Chelsea. The bad news for him is that he also has a disgruntled forward in Drogba who wants to leave the club because he is fed up of fans call him a cheat (diver etc). Oh well, if it aint Shevi then its probably Tevez. I hope they dont waste another Argentine talent like that similar to how they did with Crespo.

I'm also waiting on Man Utd news to see if they are really gonna swap Nistelrooy for Diarra.

The thing with Drogba is that he wants to play in Italy... along with William Gallas, and as you mentioned Crespo (who is going back to Italy according to Mourinho)... it might be a bit FM'ish, but they could use a combination, or all of those guys to get Shevchenko.

Tevez is amazing but like you said they'd probably waste him... seems like Adrian Mutu version 2 to me... speaking of great young South Americans, apparentely Man United are after Kerlon.

I heard about that. Great young talent and the funny thing he likes to do is attack while bouncing the ball on his head, how the hell do you tackle that without fouling?

Fernando Torres to Utd is also a rumour of interest out there but I'll wait to see.

Kerlon is a bit small from what I remember so I wonder how he will match up against the bigger guys.

That's the thing, they literally can't tackle him without fouling  English crowds will love it, but I get the feeling Ferguson might limit him with it like he did with Cristiano Ronaldo and his stepovers. When he first signed with Man U he used to do like 9 step overs everytime he got the ball.

I love seeing that kinda stuff but I can understand why Alex would limit it since you have to develop the other aspects of your game more at that age. Now C. Ronaldo has more freedom on the pitch since he is trusted more with the ball and we know he can do other things (example those splendid free kicks).

Quite simply, by using bodycheck. That's what english crowds love...
This is 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain
And a 100% reason to remember the name!

Awsome news. I was so disappointed when they lost CL final, and I was looking forward to this. He's a true leader of this team and my favourite player so, good call :P .

I think him joining Barcelona would have been a soccer fans fantasy who likes Barcelona. Thierry, Ronaldinho, and Marques couldve been the big 3.

In a way I'm glad he stayed because he is a very good player and is good to watch in the Premiership and would of been a big loss to it if he left but at the same time I wanted him to leave just so Arsenal would be weaker
Who the hell is Kerlon lol. More footballing news whilst i was searching for info on Kerlon...
Inter want Nistelrooy

I just read somewhere that he's making £130,000 a week with this new deal. Isnt that the same as Ballack? Oh well.
