Couple of forfeits almost spoilt what was a pretty good round.
HOW THE VOTING WORKS
You PM me with the following details for
every matchup that you're not involved in. Example:
Matchup: Wankster vs nbalive744
Winner: nbalive744
Comments: Both sucked but I felt nbalive744 didn't do his by controlling the mouse with his tongue.
It's that simple. Try to get the votes in as quickly as you can so we can move on to next round.
Also, remember that if you're not in the sig league, you can't vote this way...
FOR THE PUBLIC
Vote on which sig you thought was the best overall.
In the next post I'll post all of the entries.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you would like to become a judge to replace cklitsie and Null, let me know as soon as possible. You'll be "working" through the play-offs aswell. All participants, eliminated or not, will be judging the play-offs.

Some ok entries this week.
Cableguys looks nice graphically but the try-to-be-humoruous tagline kinda fell flat.
Jugs entry is retarded.
Jae's is pretty nice, just a bit plain.
Axel's is good. I think it's his best entry so far.
Cyanide's is very creative but it just lacks boom and wow but it is very creative and executed well.
Colin's bg is amazing, i really love it. It reminds me of that Marion sig. The pic is kinda questionable though.
Peachy, thats shit.
Ruff, you know and i know you'll beat me. Great sig.
Overall, a dissapointing round because of the lack of entries.
Votes, i vote for Cableguy and Colin.

Posted... make sure to read the important note, as I have made it large, red and bold so if you miss it you're an idiot.

Cyanide's the best, mine's the worst piece of shit ever

Cyanide's is great, with Jugs coming in close 2nd.

Surprisingly enough, Jugs actually beat out Cable Guy, imo. Jugs has more color and manages to pull off the collage effect nicely. Not to mention, he edges out Cable Guy in the laugh-factor. I laughed my ass off
Jae's sig has a good concept but not his best work. The contrast is lacking big time and ends up too grey. Would've been interesting to see what Null could've came up with.
As much as I enjoy Peachy's works, I got to say TBD gave out his best performance that I've seen so far. Both are great, but it's TBD's color choices and photo selection that gives an edge.
Colin's sig is very simple, but it's a concept that works. The colors of Wade's jersey fits him right into the explosion effect, but there should be text somewhere as I always believe that design is incomplete when there is an image but no text.
Axel vs. Ceekay. Too bad Ceekay forfeited, because if he made something crappy, it would've been a close matchup.

Cable Guy, I like your sig. The not only is it funny, but it's visually appealing. I'm assuming the guy in the background is Richard Nixon but I can't tell for sure. What is he there for?
Jugs' sig is really funny, but some of it just seems a bit slapped together. I think it might have gotten more votes if Antoine Walker were put in there too.
Jae your sig idea is nice, but it seems like you either ran short on time or didn't finish it up knowing you were going up against a forefeit. The border is good, but one like that should have some sort of depth... maybe you could tinker with the blending options under emboss to give it a 3D effect. Also I agree with Cy, it would be nice if you fixed the contrast.
TBD, great sig. Everything about it is great, but I'm not sure who that is on the right edge of the sig.. is it Tim Duncan? Looks kind of distorted.... what was your original image?
Peachy, nice idea, but it was just outdone by TBD. I think a little more substance might have done your sig some good.
Colin... your sig is really nice, especially the explosiveness of the colors. I'm sure you didn't just use some premade brush on it, and I'm assuming it took a lot more effort than at first glance. Sort of like your Shawn Marion sig. No real criticisms.
Cy, your sig had me confused the most. I'm not really sure what you were trying to do, all it appears you did was select a portion of the picture, create a mosaic and then add interesting blurbs of text. What were you trying to achieve with it?
Mine.... no clue, I haven't done a sig like that before nor have I seen any like it so I dunno how to judge it :\

CG-cool sig, nice effects, just crappy font.
Jugs-no comment once again.
Jae-Real nice sig, I don't really like the tech border, but it kinda fits the concept.
Peachy-Real nice sig, pretty simple but pretty well executed.
Colin-It's like I've seen something like that before on another forum but it's still pretty nice, and it looks difficult.
Cyanide-Pretty cool concept, original, looks like an ad lol
Axel-Not very good. I wouldn't say the idea is "original" as I've done it a couple times and have seen it done. The blur is bad and the font is kinda stupid looking.

Black Death's color scheme is really good with the red, white, and blue, but I think the best this week would have to be Cyanide's. When you look at his, there's so many things popping out at you, it's like an orgasm for the eye.

This is a pretty neat competition you've got going on here - wish I
had've known about it sooner. Sounds fun. It was a slim margin
between The Black Death's Maggette and Colin's Wade but I
went with Colin this time around, good job.

i know i might not be a great sig maker, but i know how to judge well and would like to become a judge

Me: Yeah, it's Nixon in the background, you know, " I am not a crook!". I was trying to make it funny, but it turned out serious. I can't do anything right.
Jugs: ... why are you part of this? ... j/k, you have the ideas, but not the skill.
Jae: I don't think it needs contrast as much as it needs a continuous border to pull it together. I really like it, it's the best use of opacity I've seen.
TBD: I'm kind of lost looking at it, it looks like he's trying to escape a bunch of bandages. The idea is great, but I think it's blurred too much.
Peachy: I love it! I voted for this one, the simplicity of it is perfect. Peachy over TBD.
Colin: You really like flames, don't you?

It's a great sig regardless, but there's something about Wade that bugs me. Maybe it's too cartoonish, or he's too skinny? I can't really figure out what I don't like about it.
Cy: It does look like an ad. It's easy to tell that you've taken computer design somewhere, all your entries have been really good technically. They just don't fit with this competition though. Besides all that, I really like it. I've liked all of yours, but they don't feel like sigs to me. Cy over Colin.
Axel: Too blurry, too simple, and you cut the top of his head off.
EDIT: I nominate Jackal as a judge.

Yeah pretty much, it's starting to bother me. I've had 2 forfeits in a row so I'm just slapping things together to just get something in. I'll probably get hammered when I finally come up against an actual person
I like Jackal as a judge too, not sure if he'd go for it. I'll ask later.

Is there anyway I can jump in on this league or is it too late?
Wed May 17, 2006 1:28 pm
Cable Guy, having a hidden face is bad. I was focused on who it is the whole time. It's a little monotonous, but pretty good.
Jugs - funny. Nice call on adding in the famous Nash and Wallace pics.
Jae - the beard is cut really bad. And the border doesn't fit at all. Leave it at a basic 1 px border and fix the beard and I likes it.
TBD - Great colours, great text, only thing I don't like is how Duncan looks. Overall nice work.
Peachy - You did a great job this week. Nice contrast especially. Not a fan of the halftone-like effect on the bg Amare pic.
Cy - I like yours, it's just very bland.
Me - Yes I like 'flame' colours. But it works with the 'Heat' and the 'Suns'. And to Cy, I'm a big believer in 'it doesn't need text'. Too many people just put text in a sig because they think it has to have it and it screws up the sig. If it doesn't add anything to the sig, why add it?
Axel - C'mon man. You're better than that.
Wed May 17, 2006 1:49 pm
What? I thought it was nice and "simple". I also liked the cartoonish effect it had.
How come I'm the only person that "simple is good" doesn't apply to here?
Guess I'm the only one sick of doing the usual rectangle sig with a brushed background.
Not trying to attack criticism, I appreciate it... but graphically I'm not sure what is wrong here.

TBD's is amazing. I love it

The bevel on both the purple and the text looks bad, the text is pixelated. The effect on Kobe doesn't fit well here (and you blurred it without keeping it wihtin the limits of Bryant so it fades out.) And the picture is just cut off without warning which I don't like.
I'm not trying to be mean here, but I don't think it works at all.
Wed May 17, 2006 2:08 pm
I probably could have spent more time on the text. I was looking for something a little different than normal, I probably should have saved that for something other than the contest.
Not sure what you meant by
(and you blurred it without keeping it wihtin the limits of Bryant so it fades out.)
I agree, i didnt like cutting the pic off, but I got halfway through and realize it wasn't the right size. I don't know how to make my image larger so I can fit more in, so I just left as it was.
I'm not taking it as mean either... I want criticisms, and just felt like overall all I was getting was "not good", "too blurry" , etc. Maybe I just didnt understand the comments.

Bad (ie. fades out):

Hmmm... I like Black Deaths piece, I'm digging the tonality of it.
Wed May 17, 2006 6:16 pm
what are the criteria for voting? I see a lot of votes for the Black Death possibly for photoshop skill? as opposed to a good overall design (not saying that TBD's design was bad, but I thought Cy's was better)
Wed May 17, 2006 6:26 pm
There's no real criteria, just whatever you think is a better sig. Whatever you base the decision on is completely upto you, there's no real restrictions.
