Being from Edmonton, the city's abuzz with the Oilers' 2-1 series lead over the Detroit Red Wings. Edmonton has the 8th seed and Detroit just had a franchise best NHL season ever and one of the highest point totals in NHL history, so it'd be incredible for an 8th seed underdog knocking down one of the few teams that are expected to win it all.
Game 4 is tonight. Go Oilers!!
Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:58 am
Nice, but the 7th seed is doing even better, we kicked Dallas' azz in all 3 games and are leading 3-0!
Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:06 pm
I heard about that, too. That's surprising as well. I wonder if it would make a difference if the Oilers played Dallas instead. History showed that the Oilers have never gotten past Dallas the last decade, but the Oilers do pretty well against Detroit for some reason.

All of my friends picked Edmonton over Detroit.
I'm in play-off withdrawl, damn those Leafs ...
Actually, that brings up a good question. Should Pat Quinn have been fired? I don't think so, it wasn't his fault that the Leafs were so bad.

I picked Australia.

And your so original.
On topic, is this hockey? I played NHL 2005 once, it was awesome.
Fri Apr 28, 2006 3:53 pm
Yep, it's hockey. And the Oilers lost 4-2

Now it's a 2-2 series tie. Ack.
Fri Apr 28, 2006 4:55 pm
How many games are in the series?
Fri Apr 28, 2006 7:40 pm
4 wins needed, 7 at max, like in the NBA.
Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:31 am
Avalalnche's game is today, I hope they can sweep the series 4-0.

Sadly, thats what happens in a Hockey mad environment like Toronto and also Vancouver, who also fired Marc (or is it Mark?) Crawford. Both teams missed the playoffs for the first time in a long while and they are immediately fired. However, how many years did the Buffalo Sabres miss the playoffs and not fire Lindsey Ruff (their head coach)? Guess it wasnt exactly a bad decision on them to hold on to them as their doing very well at this point.

Are you stupid?

Montreal lost too, now they're tied 2-2 with the Canes. Huet is spectacular though, I'm really starting to like him as a goaltender.
As for Edmonton, I think they've done a great job against Detroit. Hopefully they can make an upset.
Cy, is Stevie Yzerman coming back or not?
Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:40 am
Dont know if Yzerman is coming back or not but I'm rooting for his team nonetheless.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 6:38 am
Game 5 today, and it's 3-0 for Edmonton so far. If they can win this game, they're up 3-2 in the series
Sun Apr 30, 2006 7:03 am
Avalanche lost to Dallas
Still not so bad, Avs are 3-1, they can finish the series tomorrow in Dallas.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 10:03 am
Edmonton won against Detroit. They're up 3-2.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 10:09 am
Wow Oilers impressive.....looks like Detroit got gassed out in the playoffs.
In other hockey news, New Jersey just swept the Rangers (which anyone should have looked for, since the rangers lost 8 games to end the year.
Mon May 01, 2006 1:52 am
+ The Devils won 14 or so to end the year, not to mention the Rangers were without Jagr for the most part of the series. Ottawa also eliminated Tampa.
Mon May 01, 2006 2:33 pm
Wooooo!!! Avs won today on the OT goal from Brunette and won the series 4-1. Waitin for the results of Calgary-Anaheim series!
Mon May 01, 2006 8:41 pm
wow....Brunette again..he always seems to do well in the playoffs....didnt he end a minnesota-colorado series like 3 years ago when he scored on roy?
Tue May 02, 2006 8:59 am
Yup he did, scored the winner in game 7
Fri May 05, 2006 7:05 am
Well, first round is over. Montreal and Calgary are out; Ottawa and Edmonton advance to the next round as far as Canadian teams go. I really feel sorry for Huet and the Canadiens, he got an unlucky deflection off the defenseman's stick.

Anyways, second round looks like this:
East
(1) Ottawa
(4) Buffalo
(2) Carolina
(3) New Jersey
West
(5) San Jose
(8) Edmonton
(6) Anaheim
(7) Colorado
Fri May 05, 2006 8:07 am
lol all the good teams in the west lost! 5,6,7,8 made it
