I know there's a couple other AFI fans here, their new single Miss Murder has been posted on their MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/afi
Personally, I think it's garbage. Sure it's catchy but it sounds like a fucking Green Day song or something. Very disappointed.

eh, average although, i dont think green Day are that bad

Ugh, thats dissappointing.

First i thought you would be over reacting but that is seriously dissapointing.
It does kind of sound like Greenday.

I didn't liked it, either

Bumpy, because I got the album. And Jae probably will soon after he reads his PMs...because I told him of a store where to purchase it. If he has the money.
I don't know, I need to listen a few more times. But it really doesn't strike me as special. Similar to a lot of bands of this style.
Interesting, how back in 2003, AFI and Thursday both dropped contenders for album of the year for me. Then this year Thursday released their most beautiful album ever. And AFI releases this, which will probably not be anywhere near contention.
And one band almost broke up and would've had this be their last album if it wasn't good enough, while the other had an influx of "true fans" to follow them...
That said, Miss Murder might be the worst song off the album. Though the whole thing reeks of American Idiot.

The transaction was completely successfully. I was going to do a song-by-song review, but I figured I'd just type what I was thinking as I was listening after like 5 songs:
AFI - Decemberunderground
Prelude 12/21
Davey’s voice sounds great. Something different, haunting, reminds me of Counting Bodies Like Sheep by APC. This song could be so great, I think it's wrong to start the album with it though because expectations are huge after this. I love the bass thumping throughout, and the clapping/chanting. Way, way too short. 7/10.
Kill Caustic
Screaming at the start, very weird. Reminds me of early AFI. Definitely early AFI meets newer stuff, a filler song not really anything memorable. Chorus is too short. No real structure to the song, complete throwback. At the 1:40 mark REALLY picks up but dies back down in like 10 seconds, shame. It's very repetitive. 5.5/10
Miss Murder
Boring song, even Davey sounds disinterested. You know you’re in trouble when the best part of the song is the 3-second line “he left us all, behind”. The chorus should’ve been pumped out, maybe a bit more forceful and anthemic. They rely on it throughout the song and it’s a representation of it. 5/10
Summer Shudder
Has promise, although sounds a bit like The Used-lite. I love the use of classical instruments randomly; I wish they’d do it more. The chorus is pretty catchy but could’ve been done better. If they improved the chorus, once again, it’s not enough grunt, would’ve been really good because the concept worked. 7/10.
The Interview
The start sounds like something they’d use on advertisements for The OC, so far so bad. They may aswell all start wearing pink. Just when you think it’s going to take off it doesn’t, annoying. Finally picks up half way through but it’s not enough. Really disappointing. 3/10
Affliction
Another old-school AFI style song, only with screaming included. Not sure where that is coming from but it doesn’t work. Now it dies down into some pop song that does nothing until the screaming starts again. This is depressing. This is beyond lame. Great, 2 minutes in and the song is finally going somewhere. Davey’s voice really does sound fantastic. Now back to the pop crap, 4/10.
Endlessly, She Said
This is better, Davey’s voice sounds good and the instruments are really imposing. This is what they should’ve done for every other song. He wants to scream but kinda stops himself lol, thank god. Ok I definitely like this. Quite slow but that’s all. Little bit alexisonfire-ish. Wow, for the first time in the entire album I find myself actually getting into the music. Only took 8 songs. 8/10.
The Killing Light
The first high pitched “Oh” of the album. This doesn’t sound bad necessarily but it’s pop, they’re definitely trying to go mainstream with this. The chorus is pretty cool, the instruments are good but it’s actually Davey that lets it down. This is so frustrating, the chorus is good but the rest of the song is poor. 6/10
The Missing Frame
This could easily be played over the top of Miss Murder so far and you probably wouldn’t know the difference, in the verse at least. What the hell is this chorus? It’s like some British pop-rock band, if this had a video clip it would involve unicorns and dolphins. 4/10
37mm
This is like Prince meets German dance music to start… not that it’s necessarily that bad. Unfortunately the chorus, which had potential, is about as weak as Prince himself. If this was a Rammstein album with Davey singing these songs it probably would’ve kicked ass. I just fast forwarded bit by bit through the song and it all sounds the same. 4/10
Love Like Winter
Oh jesus, it’s a homosexual version of Oasis meets the guys who did that “Video Killed The Radio Star” song. YES FINALLY a strong chorus, it’s very Bon Jovi (don’t ask) but it’s not weak like all the others. I like this, although it’s faded into Oathith/VKTRS again. Is Davey putting on a British accent? Who cares, the chorus is back. This is such a good chorus, what a waste. Oh man the change-up with about 40 seconds left is good, but not enough. 2/10 for the verses, 7/10 for the chorus so make it 5/10.
Kiss And Control
Is Scooter the new producer or something? All of these songs have an electronica feel to them. More weak singing, but it does sound good. Finally the guitars come alive, but the screaming puts me off a bit… but it’s ok, he kinda saves it. It’s very slow. Once the chorus ends there’s such a massive swing back to pussy-ville. If the rest of the album wasn’t so soft and quiet in the verses I’d like this a lot more. 6/10.
Overall Rating: 5/10
Best Songs:
Endlessly, She Said
Prelude 12/24
Summer Shudder
Worst Songs:
The Interview
37mm
Affliction
This is the ultimate filler album. Like Ben said, there’s just nothing spectacular. Endlessly, She Said and Prelude could’ve been but Prelude is way too short and Endlessly is too slow to be brilliant. There’s some ok songs, if it was a new band you hadn’t heard you’d think they have promise but being AFI, they’ve not met my personal expectations at all. I would’ve given Sing The Sorrow a 9.5/10, anything above a 7 would’ve been acceptable for Decemberunderground as far as I’m concerned.

Oh my lord. This CANNOT be AFI.

They do not sound into that song (Miss Murder) at all, like they usually do. It still sounds better than half the shit I hear these days, but this is NOTHING compared to Sing the Sorrow. NOTHING.
These songs are hollow, they're missing so many levels that the Sing the Sorrow songs had and they don't even have the youthful energy of their older albums. I enjoy Green Day, etc (except most of American Idiot... yuck)... but this is pretty bad.

If anyone's into that whole punk scene I suggest you try and get your hands on tracks or a disc from MYA (me, you and alcohol) yeah the name's crap but I'd have to say their the only punk rock band that doesnt annoy the hell out of me.
Best tracks would be
Simple Matter
That Guy Named Mother
Penny for the Lesbian
Jessica's Homer
I guess their more aggresive punk, sorta like Yellowcard meets Jimmy Eat World in terms of commercial band comparisons.

Umm I guess their the inbetween of Yellowcard and Jimmy Eat World. More towards Jimmy Eat World possibly but their songs aren't the usual political/love story that punk rock is filled with these days. They even have more old school punk tracks similar to that of The Sex Pistols and also a bit of Sonic Youth in them.

I liked Kill Caustic. The screaming at first was kinda weird, but I liked the song.

You must be thinking of someone else, the vocals couldn't be further from George's screaming, and are much deeper than the vocals from Dallas Green. The song is much slower than anything with George's vocals and with more melody, and the acoustic shit Dallas Green did is maybe as melodic, but with a slower tempo and weak vocals.
Anyways, I've listened to about 3/4 of the album and nothing sticks out. It doesn't seem much different from their last album, only softer, with more random screamo moments.

Nope, thinking of alexisonfire. Probably not so much now that I've listened to it a few times, but it did remind me of them first time around.

The Miss Murder video is extremely weird. Black bunnies and Davey's hair & makeup

Miss Murder isn't an insanely bad song, but it does sound very uninspired.
