The Best movies of 2005

Postby Jugs on Wed Jan 18, 2006 4:32 am

Guys, what do you think were the best movies of 2005?

I didn't see that many movies but I'll compile a small list.

Batman Begins
The Pacifier 8-)
Star Wars episode 3
Coach Carter
The War of the Worlds
The 40 year old Virgin
King Kong ( i havent seen it but my mother says it was good)

I can't remember if I've watched any other 2005 movies but i'm sure you guys will refresh my memory.

And also if you want, state some of the worst movies to be released in 2005.

Sideways was horrible, i think it was released in 2004 in US but we got it in 2005.

Yeah I was really disappointed with it too, I overhyped it and still overhyping but now I've come to the fact that it sucked. Original was better.

I'll give you a worst movie ever made: Napoleon Dynamite + Sin City. Napoleon Dynamite was about as funny as watching a puppy get run over by a car, Sin City was the most pretentious piece of shit I've ever watched.

Coach Carter is poop, I only watched it because it's about basketball, Samuel L. is a good actor though.
And I hate that movie because my coach got some ideas out of it and we had to run more suicides and stuff. :x

I'd like to see the bold listed above as well, and I haven't seen Sin City or King Kong yet. Also, has anyone seen Syriana or The Constant Gardener?

As for the best movies of 2005, based on the ones I've seen:

1. Crash
2. High Tension (that French horror flick)
3. 40 Year Old Virgin

Other than that, I have a tendency to watch movies a year or two later on DVDs rather than in the theatres. Batman Begins, for some reason was just 'OK' after watching it the second time. I'm not much of an action movie watcher these days. Napoleon Dynamite was actually more sad funny than ha-ha funny, and Coach Carter was inspirational but not memorable. Land of the Dead sucked balls big time, and Elektra was even worse.

This year was a real shitty movie year. I don't like movies like Saw or Final Destination... not that the gore bothers me, but it's just excessive and those kind of movies usually have no plot...

I liked King Kong and Napoleon dynamite a lot. Coach Carter was pretty decent too. Besides that, there wasn't much to watch.

Transporter 2 was over the top. It was so fake it couldn't grab my interest. A lot of the action movies such as Bad Boys 2 I liked... the whole scene where he removes the bomb from under the car was just stupid... they needed to try to make the movie less scripted.

Other crap movies:

War of the Worlds
Bewitched
Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo (i cant stand Rob Schneider... he cant act!)
Out of the Blue
The Weather Man
Harry Potter 4 (they left sooo much out of this, it was too hard to follow)
Sin City (mk, i think this was the worst movie of all time)
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Taxi
Batman Begins
The FOG

I really hope some better movies come out next year...

Crash was another movie I thought was good. Same with Constantine, I actually loved Constantine. I haven't seen Saw 2, I saw the first one.

Scary movie 4? :o

I've seen The Brothers Grimm and it's a good movie, not great but not a bad movie.
I think the best movies were Batman Begins, King Kong, The Interpreter and Crash.
40 Year Old Virgin was great also.
Coach Carter and The Dukes of Hazzard aren't bad movies, but they're not the movie you'd like to see more than 2 (?) times.
The worst movies I've seen this year in the cinema were Elektra and House of Wax (I watched House of Wax just because Elisha Cuthbert was in it, and a hot chick wanted to see it with me 8-))
Dear Old World, you represent everything that's wrong...

Be damned if you thought I saw all those movies in the theatres or on DVD. Really, there is this thing called the internet. It's wonderful. :P

They can't fit a HP book into like 2 hours of film. It's not possible.

Why did you think Batman Begins was crap? Care to share?

I liked the way they made Sin City, the story on the other hand, put me off to sleep.

Transporter 2 was over the top. It was so fake it couldn't grab my interest. A lot of the action movies such as Bad Boys 2 I liked... the whole scene where he removes the bomb from under the car was just stupid... they needed to try to make the movie less scripted.

Agreed on the underside of the car breaking off the bomb. But I really dig Statham so I liked this movie aswell. The whole Transporter character is awesome.

That movie entertains. It's pure entertainment. It isn't meant to be a "Crash" type of movie.

Yeps, that's one of the movies I did end up renting given we'd seen everything else. (Well, my brother in law picked it, I paid for it.)

That's the one with Edward Burns (Confidence) & Ben Kingsley. That's probably the worst CG effects I've seen in a movie since the Muppet Show. God, it was horrible.

I have to disagree, I saw the movie in the theatres, I love it, it was so cool, I thought to myself after watching it "Boy, this movie would suck if I never saw it in the Theatre"

Bottom Line:

Sound of Thunder is a good movie if you watch it on the Big Screen, but at home, it's crap.

Are you joking? It was so horrendous I quit watching it like an half an hour in. I got till where he went to look up the female doc at her appartment & all those critters started coming from all over the place.

The damn dinosaur they kept repeating in the beginning (on the little trips) looked like the dinosaur from the first King Kong (1933 orso) wrapped in plastic. The water CLEARLY looked like CG.

And those vaporizors (sp?) are you kidding me?

Image

Regardless, a C-Grade movie like that would never hit theatres in Holland, they release movies later than the States, but atleast they release movies worth watching. This movie went straight to the DVD's.

Then again, we're talking about computer graphics here, we all know how much of an "expert" you are in that. :|

Wedding Crashers! That'd be my #1 movie for the year, I loved it. I think I saw it 5 or 6 times at the cinema (admittedly it wasn't always my idea) and found it funny every time. The nose generally does bother me, but this movie's funny enough to sort of distract from it somewhat.

In order, this year:

Wedding Crashers
Batman Begins

That'd be it. I saw alot of movies but none of them really jumped out at me apart from those two.
