The reason why they fold money because it still has the same value even if the money is almost ripped in the half as long as its not seperated. So unless you have money to display it somewhere, you ball up the money and do whatever you want with it and you can still spend it on something. My creative writing teacher showed my class that trick 3 years ago, but he didn't show the Osama trick.
