Headshot Requests for Live Cards

Postby HonorGlow on Thu Dec 08, 2005 4:02 pm

Well, as some of you know, I'm venturing more out of my normal Dynasty Thread area and steps to improve the LiveGMC/Birdie Board projects. One area that really "sucked" last year was my dynamic "LiveCards" ...I'm more of a coder and not a visual arts person...but for example, whenever a Dynasty GM submitted their stats, the player with the best Efficiency rating on the GM's team would have their 'Live Card' enabled:

Image..Image

But one thing, I thought that was cool was to try to get the community Photoshop specialists involved and see what cool things can be done with the 'headshot area' (202 x 123):

Image

As you can see the prototype 'head shot' area was limited to just the middle section, and then the rest was a random background... but I can now see that by utilizing the whole area and still maintain the 'headshot' theme, some really cool things can be done...

Some general general guidelines would be:
- Keep the art within the area
- the height of the head would cover the majority of the height of area(123 pixels)
- the head shot would be derived from a PC screenshot and not from an actual picture(keeping within that Live feel and environment)
- text inclusion: the name of the player only(as players can get Traded or have their number changed)
- your signature somewhere to show that you made the headshot area.

Some Common 'headshots' needed:
S. Jasikevicius(priority request)
Tim Duncan
LeBron James
Kenyon Martin
Kevin Garnett
Shaquille O'Neal
Dwayne Wade
Emeka Okafor
Tracy McGrady- styles: cklitsie

Or other Team MVPs:
A. Bogut
Z. Randolph

Contributions thus far:
The Jae signature line:

The chezzy62 signature line:

The Colin signature line:

The Jugs signature line:
ImageImage

The cklitsie signature line:
Image Image Image
Image Image Image
Image Image

The streetballaz1 signature line:

Image

The Heiks signature line:

So, essentially we cool probably have something like the "Jae's signature line" of head shots, or the "cklitsie signature line" or 4 or 5 headshots of Wade from Photoshop specialists that the GM can choose from when they develop their Live Card.

You guys do awesome stuff and I sincerely admire what you guys are doing in keeping the NLSC fresh and I'm really jealous of your visual talents(especially in the sigs...which is somewhat similar to what I'm shootin for) and it's a talent that I'll never never ever be able to possess!

...since my talents lie elsewhere I developed the Birdie Board/ and liveGMC.com as strictly ways to motivate Dynasty players to keep pushing their dynasties forward... I hope to hear some interests! Thanks for reading this thread...

On the next post below: I'll post some actual basketball card headshot areas to give some reference points....

As promised here are some ideas from real basketball cards:

Somewhat straightforward, definitely something just to clarify the concept:

Here's a better one, but from what I've seen that's been done on this thread, I know you guys could blow this one away:

I've done one, I'll do some more later and upload them in a few hours.

Edit: This is the basic template for 1, I want to do about 5 different templates alltogether... only problem is that I don't have Live so I can't use the "live" screenshots, unless I just post the pictures and people take similar ingame screenshots or something.

:lol:How about this for improvement! :lol:

Before... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... After!

...and to be complete, the flipside:

Like jxuusa said, I do agree that the headshots should be "in game". But JJae's headshot attempt is AWESOME and this stage of the game, I'm willing to take most anyone's contribution if they're making an honest effort. Let's just say that 'in game' is preferred :lol: for now.

My thoughts are, we can have the Jae real-life line of headshots :D and if the are multiples of the same player, I can always have the GM choose his favorite once that program module comes out.

But thank you Jae for taking a crack at it, and I'm looking forward to any additional real-life attempts! And to show you that I reworked my code to accomadate the customization, he's a little code snippet:

(for any of you techno-geeks who wish to criticize my code... don't you have anything better to do?!?...like play LIVE?)
############################################
chdir ("../../../images/livecard-bkg-custom/"); # for 2006 version
print qq(Reading "livecard-bkg-custom" directory: <br>);
foreach my $temp_f (<*>) {
print "$temp_f<br>";
if ($temp_f =~ /$TextFileName/) {
print "We found a match! <br>";
$temp_f =~ /card-bkg(garenas_01)a/;
$customcard = $1;
print "$customcard<br>";
last;
}
}
print "<br>";
chdir ("../../gms-2006/$lowerGenManager/teammvp/"); # for 2006 version
#####################################

Anyway, looking forward to your contributions, jxuusa... and anyone else who could help me...anyone...anyone...Bueller?

Yeah, the real life pictures have emotion and facial expressions - something that is totally nonexistent in NBA Live.

But it's up to HonorGlow, he's running the show.

Well, it's about Live dynasties after all. Or else he could just take some signatures as headshots. :wink:
I'll give these a try too.

Yeh, like I said, I prefer that the headshots are "In Game" I thought perhaps if they're "In Game" it gives us a snap capsule shot of how the graphics were like for 06 and then in 08 years later when we're all playing that game..they would be new headshots for the same players and people would go..."Oh that's the Jae signature 06 line! You can tell it's 06 because there's no sweat graphics on Garnett!"

...but at this stage of the game I prefer just cool rockin 'art'...somewhere down the line where we end up having 10 versions of Mark Madsen, I'll give a better qualifier... :D

btw has anybody seen the XBOX 360 Live graphics with sweat and all? Never thought I'd appreciate hot sweaty men until I saw the XBOX videos...:shock:

but I digress...

Heiks thanks for the efforts on the shots, this one I like a lot!
Image
...even though I'm not a Duncan fan...

The whole goal is to maximize the headshot area with the actual head while not giving a team specific feel.. because players can get traded or GM's can do Fantasy draft, I wanted to reflect that possibility...

css formatting allows me to superimpose a specific team logo if need be so were all cool on that.

I also asked chezzy62 if he could retrofit his Anthony to a headshot...

cklitsie, thanks for your interest too! Looking forward to your contributions! Long time no see btw... Plus if you have any pstat files too wink wink :wink:

I save whatever I do as a PNG so I can edit it in future... if you need team logos or colours or something changed just let me know and I can sort it out. I'll probably get more done tonight, too much caffeine so I'm wide awake.

chezzy62, looks nice! Is there any possibility you could remove the Denver logo in the back? (in attempt to make the headshot non-team specific) The other thing is the C in 'carmelo' and the y in 'anthony ' look like they're just to the point of touching that edge...any way to bring those sections 1 or 2 pixels inward?

But nevertheless, thank you for being so willing to help out! Since Carmelo is one of the premier Live players...I'm sure that he'll be team MVP somewhere down the pike...

chezzy62/nbalive744, is it possible you can do one final edit on that?

Also, a recent stat submitter got wind that Tracy McGrady is his Team MVP so I'll be carving up his Live Card soon. Is there anybody on the thread who can take a stab at his headshot?

Thanks again guys for keeping this threading happening' I appreciate your input!

I worked on one but it didn't come out really good, so I'll give it a try again soon.
What team should that McGrady be on, just the Rockets?

Hey Cklitsie...is it possible to make the McGrady headshot non-team specific? That way if another GM has McGrady on a different team...it'll be reusable...Thanks for attacking that!
