iPod Question

Postby Jay-Peso on Mon Nov 14, 2005 9:04 am

I had to reformat my harddrive. So when I reinstalled iTunes, I obviously lost all my purchased music. BUT, the purchased music is still on my iPod. Is there anyway to transfer my iPod songs to my computer? I've tried the click + drag method but it doesn't seem to work. please hellpp :x

There's no way with iTunes, but there's this program I saw in stores for $20 that lets you move fiels from your iPod to your PC. But I forget what it was called.

Maybe you can find a 'demo' somewhere.

The music (at least the CDs that are in the iPod) are in the main iPod folder, the one in My Computer. They are hidden, so you should check out the folder properties. (Y)

Thanks....

I'm checking this now!

EDIT: Okay, I checked this. BUTTTT, one prob. All the names of the songs show up as letters. I think I'm going to try and find a program. It seems easier for long term.

Sorry to revive this, I have a question about my iPod and this looks like the right thread.

Is there any way to keep the songs on my iPod, but delete them from my hard drive without iTunes deleting them from the iPod in the next update? Would that be to set iTunes to manual instead of auto? Or would it still delete the songs from the iPod?

I'm running out of space on my hard drive (40GB), and I'm also considering getting an external hard dive, but I wondered if there was some way to do this. I have a 20GB iPod, not sure which generation, but it's not colour.

Thats the bd thing bout Ipod, you need iTunes.

BTW I dont think it can delete your files without asking you what you want to do first.

Okay, now I've confused myself. If I set it to manual, how do I transfer songs to it?

Not quite, you've gotta convert video files to MPEG-4 or something before you can put them on the iPod. It's starting to piss me off, they're all some weird Mac file format I can't open without endlessly downloading.
