Planning for the LONG future.

Postby Doobie on Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:41 am

Okay ,today , me and four friends decided to take a trip across America in the summer of 2008 . We are planning on leaving June 30th and coming back September 5th. So basically 2 full months and a week or so .We are planning on going to from here (New Jersey) to California and back . We are planning now because we need to think about the money and what are we going to do.We want to California from the North , and come back through the south . Well , I am wondering which cities we should stop in and hang out for a few days in before we leave. So far i have Chicago , Seattle , Los Angeles , Houston , Miami , Virginia Beach .Any more good cities that are on the way towards or back that are recommended , please tell me.And I also need an estimate on how much money it would cost . We are saving right now , and as my graduation present I'm getting an SUV . So , We are on a limit on what we can carry . The things we need to take , Clothes for 2 months , shoes , Condoms , Toothbrush , Deo , And anything else thats necessary . No we aren't having gay Orgy's . Well , please reccomend places to go , and tell me how much it'll cost to go there . Gas , Food , Hotels , extras... are all things we gotta save for . We are planning to continually drive till we get to a destination , stop there for 3-4 days (usually on weekends) and then keep on going to our next destination . I'm going to tell you guys in order what states we are going too .

1.New Jersey
2.Pennsylvania
3.Ohio
4.Indiana
5.Illinois
6.Wisconsin
7.Minnesota
8.North Dakota
9.Montana
10.Idaho
11.Washington
12.Oregon
13.California
14.Nevada
15.Utah
16.Colorado
17.New Mexico
18.Texas
19.Lousianna
20.Mississipi
21.Alabama
22.Florida
23.Georgia
24.South Carolina
25.North Carolina
26.Virginia
27.Maryland
28.Deleware
29.New Jersey(back)

Obviously we are not stopping in all of those states , but thats the route we are taking .I don't know if its possible to do all this in 2 months and a week , but we are going to do so.This is going to be an amazing trip. We are planning now because we need to save up money , and we need to know how to do this and all . Please, any help would be neccessary.

I strongly suggest you take a look around Vancouver when you're in the Northwest. It's about 4 hours or so (depending on the time of year and customs line-ups) from Seattle. So in the grand scheme of things it's not going to interfere with the timeframe of your vacation. But just remember you need your passports, so that might influence your decision.

I hear San Antonio is a great place to check out too.

Vancouver is cheap, some of the cheapest restaurants of all the bigger cities in the US/Canada. In Vancouver you would pay the equivalent of $6-7 US for something that costs $10 US in most US cities.

For an actual number, you should be able to get by on 1500. But go for 2000 to make sure. Of course I might be overestimating since I have to force myself to think in terms of your American funny money.

Of course, this is if you don't want to spend the last week eating Ramen noodles.

In order to answer that question, a person would have had to have made that trip themselves. I don't know of anyone who's done that.

If we're talking about Canada, Vancouver's a little more expensive, but probably a lot cheaper than the major US cities. In other words, Edmonton/Calgary has cheaper restaurants

But the cost of going that much farther, the lack of much of anything to do (beside a mall, and he could just go to the Mall of America or w/e when he rolls though Minny), and the fact it's much colder make it a silly plan.

So :P to you. Vancouver > all

DOOBIE: why don't you put some actual effort into this shit rather then asking us?

look at hotel rates for that time period, guess the approximate mileage you'll be driving +25% for the gas expense.. dude there's so much shit you need to go over..

2 month trip and you have no idea about a bunch. that's mighty ambitious...

hmmmmmmm....I take it since you grew up in NY it wouldn't be anything special....so now that my usual suggestion is gone, I think you should drive up to Canada and visit Toronto. I went there over the summer and loved it.

Roadtrip! Me and my friends always planned/wanted to do that, travel around the country.
Doobie, don't plan too much because some of those plans might not come into fruition. All you need is you, your friends, mode of transportation, and a destination. Wads of cash is also a must.

It would really be cool if that roadtrip of yours pushed thorugh. (Y)
