NAACP Teenager of the Year ANNOUNCEMENT

Postby -BHZMAFIA- on Mon Oct 10, 2005 10:17 am

I'm running for NAACP Teenager of the Year and what exactly I have to do is get more members to join and the contestant that gets the most memberships will recieve a $1,000 scholarship plus many other prizes.

For people that don't know what the NAACP is, it stands for the "National Association For The Advancement of Colored People" its the nation's largest and oldest civil rights organization. There are 2,200 adult branches, plus an additional 191 college chapters and 233 youth councils. The NAACP continues to be the protection and enhancement of the civil rights of black Americans. The organization also helps with MANY other things and they don't just help African Americans, it helps other races as well.

What I'm asking for the NLSC community to do, is help me by getting memberships from me. It's $10 for members up to the age of 18, and for the regular adult member its $30 which is a 1-year subscripition. You can also get Lifetime Memberships. For kids at the age of 13 and under, the membership is $100, between 14-21 its $400, the silver life member is $750, gold life $1,500 and diamond life $2,500. I'm not asking for those type of memberships unless you are willing to give for a lifetime membership.

If you do want to help out and become a member, (and if you are already a member, you can renew your subscription) then you can send me an email at bhzmafia14@hotmail.com. I would need some information so I can fill out the envelope that the money goes in. Also, if you was going to send the money, please send it through paypal, my paypal info is bhzmafia@collegeclub.com but let me know before you send it. For anyone that lives in Memphis I will be on the radio October 15 on K97, V101.1 and some more stations as well along with other contestants to try and get more memberships. The First Membership Reporting Date is October 27, the 2nd Membership Reporting Date is November 10, the Third Membership Reporting Date is November 22 and the Final Reporting Date is December 7 so you have between now and December 7th to get a membership.

Once again here is a list of the different memberships you can get:

Regular Adult (Regular memberships include a 1-year subscription plus a year subscription of Crisis Magazine) $30

Youth (up to 21 with Crisis Magazine) $15
Youth (up to 18 without Crisis Magazine) $10

LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP

Junior Life (ages 13 and under) $100
Bronze Life (ages 14 to 21) $400
Silver Life $750
Gold Life $1,500
Diamond Life $2,500

and my email is bhzmafia14@hotmail.com if you have anymore questions. Many of you should know me throughout the forums so I'm hoping I can get some support. Thanks and I really would appreciate anyone who could help me out in this contest.

*cough* bullshit *cough*

Basically, the NAACP is here to make sure black people get into college easier than white people.

Amen. Affirmative action pisses me off. Black people who get 20 points lower than me on the PSAT get offered $10,000 scholarships. Same goes with Hispanic people. I mean, I understand the ideal of affirmative action in that it offers the less economically fortunate the chance to study but these kids in my school are richer than I am.

That was kevC's super-Asian rant of the day.

Is similar in NZ....if you have any Maori blood then you get a free ride....I was hearing from some guy who's son is like 1/8th or 1/16th Maori and he got a free ride through uni....

it's one of those tough ethical dilemmas....it's all about equity vs equality....

You got a house with a pool, you're collecting (!) Jordans, so I don't really see why you would even deserve this...?

Inverse discrimination in relation to affirmative action is refusing to take into historical context of what affirmative action means. The people who made affirmative action did not give a shit if it was inverse discrimination. They just wanted more friggin jobs. You know affirmative action worked well in the 70s and African Americans were getting more jobs, then after the fucking Bakke case people keep on saying shit that it's inverse discrimination or whatever. Without affirmative action, racism will only get worse. Race is an institute, not whatever is in our hearts and minds. We won't change a thing by just changing our minds. Who cares about all that sentimental equality bullshit. Most people just want better jobs, more money. Jobs they are denied because they are put in a bad position to begin with. Sure we all work friggin hard, but the African Americans need to work even hardER.

Affirmative action was a pragmatic policy, something that was purely materialistic. In its initial years, it was also successful in transitioning Blacks from blue collar to white collar jobs. The amount of white collar jobs for Blacks increased by a stunning 55.3%
Source: Wescott, Diane Nilson. MONTHLY LABOR REVIEW. June 1982. Blacks in the 1970’s: Did They Scale the Job Ladder? Pg. 30

After the Bakke case, it went downhill. Yes, Blacks are in a worse state than they were in the 1970s just because people like you could not see it in historical context. Abstract liberalism is a form of racism.

Abstract liberalism is an “abstract and decontextualized extension of principles of liberalism to racial matters in ways that preserve racially unfair situations.” You're forgetting the whole friggin context of affirmative action. As if everything was already fair or if racism disappeared somewhere or if slavery never happened.

It sort of sucks that Asians get a big disadvantage, but still, saying that affirmative action is inverse discrimination is just ignorant and being egotistical.

(Not aimed at KevC btw, I read the latter part of your thing.)
Bored.

yeah things are easier for blacks and hispanics these days... but a lot of it is because we just aren't economically equivalent to whites. We still recovering from those Slavery days. Your parents parents were born in the slavery days, and your parents could of been born in it too. Besides, you go to college and guarenteed there will be more whites than anything else anyway. So stop complaining like there ain't no whites there.

What does this have to do with me getting a bunch of money. I'm not using the money that yall would give me, it goes to the NAACP and yall actually would be a member of the organization. I mean for the people that do live in the US, should be the main ones joining because the NAACP did do alot for all races. I think alot of you just have the wrong idea, thinking its more about me than just joining anyway. The most amount of scholarship money I would get is $1,000 for college if I won this and its not the fact that I'm getting scholarship money, I just want to win period and the NAACP needs more members in it.
