Thu Sep 08, 2005 2:31 pm

I remember hearing that old NBC theme song when a game was coming on...wathcing Hakeem doing him twists and turns...winning the championship. i was just2-3 yrs. old when my dad and I used to get a bucket and throw rocks @ it. then he got me one of those mini-backboards and I always dunked on it.I first played organized basketball when i was 5 or 6 @ the Y.I played there until now...where I hope to make the A-Team on my Junior High team.

If I do make it , trust me , I'll go crazy , I have confidence but my team's style of play doesnt represent my style of play .It's almost like Shawn Bradley running with the suns .Except I'm not that horrible . I'm more of a set kind of player , Half court game . The HS team is mostly a fast-break team.

I learned basketball from my dad, we watched NBA together...
Then around 8, he told me the rules and talked more about those stars like MJ, Larry Bird... Malone...
Then when I'm 14, I started to play organized ball... Made the team and avg. 3 minutes per game..
Now I'm way way better

I love you Dad :o

Hm, one day, i saw Michael Jordan, i don't know where, but i just say him, maybe a poster, or tv then i was like screw soccer i'll play basketball

Then i joined a team wen i was 7, and i was the crappest player  . Now i'm going onto the ultim8 level, 16 and under As, so i'll be bruised and beaten up by 16 yr olds and im only 14

When I was like 5 or 6 I started watching NBA games with my dad in Argentina (I remember me watching the '98 Finals ) , but I didn't play organized basketball until 2 years ago here in Italy...
I don't remember why, but after trying to re-play soccer unsuccessfully(when I was 8 a kid kicked my knee and it got broken, the doctor said that I wouldn't be able to play "aggressive" sports like soccer or rugby until 2 years after) I was like I wanted to play basketball, because I grown up watching it, and because here there isn't any other sport to play (except volleyball, but I hate volleyball  ).
I was lucky (or not) because I started playing with a REALLY crappy team, so I was not the worst player. Now we're way better and reached the playoffs twice. This year I'm looking forward to the title

first came to america 9 years ago (4th grade), couple kids from my class urged me to play, and i got hooked.

Fri Sep 09, 2005 3:10 am

When i was at 1st class...i saw many Magic games, and i just loved penny moves....and then i heard when my best freind went to practices at the 2nd class i started to practcei too....but I moved to the capital city, couldn`t see anymore games and the practices were pretty boring, so i just lost the love for the game, so after 2year i quit, but when i had a great basketball court in my school, i re-fell in love with game, and i started to grow at the 3rd class....i just had to get my ass to the nearest team and start to practice ( at 6th grade )...and now basketball is part of my life

It was somebody's birthday party, and we went to some sports dome, and I played basketball there for the first time and instantly fell in love with the sport. I do recall the old Orlando-Houston NBA Final matchups that got me hooked to the NBA.

I once went to a basketball class when I was like 8. Then, like 4 years later, I signed up to my school baskbetball team, and I've been playing since that year... (Y) :P

When i was 6 my mom wanted me to play soccer and i did for a year and as i look back my overall feelings were the only kind soccer thats good is girls high-school soccer...but basketball was my dads choice and i started playing in a community ed league when i was 7 and now i coach in that L so its all-around pretty good. And the fact that Shaq was the shit in the 90s got me into it too.

When I was 3 years old and I really never watched a single basketball game in my life, my dad bought me a little Michael Jordan inside goal that you could let up and down with a ball and he use to play with me, and by the time I was playing for awhile, I start to get in rec leagues. Like when I was 4, I was able to get on a 6-year old team because I lied about my age  and I actually played good. By the time I reached 6, I was already on a higher level than most kids as far as knowledge of the game goes and knowing really how to play. Afterwards, I just kept practicing then by the time I was 7 or 8, I start to develop handles like dribbling behind the back and between the legs. And from then on, I was just good as a player.

The year? 1990. The game? Game one of the Pistons-Pacers round 1 series. The final of the series? 3-0 in favor of the Pistons. I've been hooked since.

I was like 5 or something and I would always sit on my granpa's lap and watch Michael Jordan tear people up. I had no idea what the hell was going on, but it was awesome (I remember I used to think each freethrow was 3 points and one field goal was one point). My brother also was playing basketball in the court by my school all the time so I thought I'd try it.

Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:06 am

I played basketball every recess in school in 7th grade, but signed up for the school team in 9th grade.

I really don't remember the first time I played. :P

...... Maybe it has to do with the fact that you've stopped playing? Talent really has nothing to do with it if you don't even practice playing basketball. You can never lose talent, but you can lose the skill.

I got my first basket-thing when I was around 7-8 and I played it a lot but I only started really playing when I was around 12 and going to HS. We don't have school teams here, it's more like the AAU system. Now I'm 16 (almost 17) and I (like to  ) think I'm above average when it comes to people only playing for 4/5 years but that's probably because I started at 12 years old.

First game I've ever seen was Bulls-Sonics in the Finals, because we were in the hospital to visit my grandma there and they had that channel on in the recreation room. I regret not spending the time with my grandma now though.

I wasn't really interested in basketball until I got to 6th grade. My brother was in the school team back then and I used to watch him play and sometimes I'd stay back after school and play with him a bit. That's how I started playing basketball but I didn't really start following it as a sport until Live 2000 came out.
I remember playing the demo.. you could only choose between the Spurs and the Knicks and I'd always pick the spurs. I loved running around controlling Duncan and just dunking on everyone. And I didn't really know anyone in the NBA besides Jordan and Magic at that point but since then I've played every edition of Live that's come out so yeah I guess I have Live to thank in a huge part for getting me hooked onto basketball.
