Hurricane destorying the city of New Orleans

Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:38 am

I can't believe nobody made a thread on this yet.

Terrible.

Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:41 am

Yup, I saw it on the news today, poor people. (N)

Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:43 am

It's not as bad as they were saying it was going to be. Luckily, the storm missed them. But gas prices are rising because of this. (N)

Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:44 am

Saw it on the news... the lake is higher than the city which means that the city will be very much destroyed at the end of the storm. Dang... (N)

can someone with decent global market knowledge explain to the ignorant me why this has such an effect on oil pricing? :?:

Tue Aug 30, 2005 8:45 am

There are a lot of oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexico where the Hurricane hit and a lot of oil gets transported through the gulf of Mexico but they had to stop all shipping because it was too danergous.

And the refineries no longer have power so they can't produce oil.

Missed who? It hit the city of New Orleans head on.

Tue Aug 30, 2005 9:43 am

I mean, luckily the worse part of the storm missed New Orleans. It could have been a lot worse but they got lucky.

Tue Aug 30, 2005 12:08 pm

New Orleans got hit by the Western Side of the storm. The center of the storm was about 35miles east of New Orleans.

The worst part of the storm was on the western side of it, so they missed that. If the western side had hit it, the superdome might of been completely destroyed.

Hornets don't play in the Superdome.

...wow, if I thought they did I would not have said

The way I put that, was implying that the Superdome and where the Hornets play are 2 different places.
Do we need a lesson in basic english?
