the day started as a cool weekend, Saturday morning. I did my early push ups and started my walking around the lovely Ayala center area. At near 10 AM I returned at the apartment and take the girl out for lunch. After which I have her head off to her parents at the nearby province of Cainta Rizal. Then I head back at our Pasig office. Which many of the guys were already talking about having some drinks before the big match. I finished checking some papers then we head off back to Makati for the awaited drinking session. We are in this resto grill bar at around 5 PM. Then a couple of friend’s friends arrived. We are growing in numbers. 8 of us now. An hour of laughing and about 3 bottled drinks the cell phone rang. The other guys and my opponent are already at the fitness gym. I told the guys to head off there first, I brought 3 of my close friends back in the apartment and get my stuff and gear ready for the bout. Exactly 7:28 after beating a few traffic we found ourselves 9 floors above a high-rise building and an elevator opening away from the gym. Once I entered the gym we walk straight to the ring area. A couple of greetings and a few jokes to go along. A few laughs and everyone take their individual standing post as to anticipate a big boxing match. Minutes later one of our many supervisor made it. Laughing alongside one of the gym instructors. As I talk to RODNEY for our friendly match, the instructor who will be our ref for the match told us that it’s almost 8:30. And we made reservations [close doors for this one] for this ring to be put up till 9 only. So I hurried to my corner and my pals and so called coach help me tape my fist and put in my headgear. We have this tiny plastic bucket we filled with mouthwash and water for my mouthpiece to be floating with. Maybe our spits bucket to be. Anyways a few minutes after, the match started

ROUND 1
Our ref talk some few rules and emphasize the below the belt rule. He thoroughly checked both Rodney and my gloves. Then centered us to the center of the ring and have our gloves punch on top each other. Since we don’t have a bell my pal just bang a small gong [yeah me and my pals stupid props again folks]
At that exact moment adrenaline rush in to my veins, maybe because of the few Lights drinks I hit hours ago, the coffee I drank? Of the excitement of the crowd? I have no clue. All I have in mind is to focus on my game plan. Me and my ring boys have this plan to protect my lower chin, so I have my left arm glove near or even under my chin at all times, then my right hand will cover my eyes. I will just do counter attacks. No offense for the first 2 rounds. Well sounds like a great plan don’t you think? Well wrong. Cause as the makeshift gong sounded RODNEY move in like there is no tomorrow!!! He started swinging like a madman. It caught me off guard. Side cheeks got the most of the punches. My ears were hit about 4x straight!!! I can hear ringing at that moment, and the swaying of the mat is like a boat rocking. But I keep my cool. My head is telling me first 3 minutes,,,,its just 3 minutes hang in there. I can hear the howls and cheers of the guys in that room. Although some punches were a bit girly as he was swinging crazy a few hit there marks at my headgear. My ears were feeling so hot and burning after being hit so many times. Then after about 60 seconds the swinging were lessened. I counter by throwing in swift straight punches right in the nose is my target. Swoosh swoosh right glove followed by left. 2 minutes into the first round I think I scored about 3 points there. Pretty straight punches no hooks no uppercuts but solid nose, forehead shots. I started swinging sideways too. Mostly misses. Rodney came in close. Trying to hug me. Well there's no hugging here body. I keep pushing him away, after a push a few stolen straight punches. Then GONG! Sounded the end of the first round.
Every one burst into laughter!

ROUND 2
My pals checked my cheeks and my eye socket for soreness, as I can feel a burning sensation there. They wet it with cold water. Wipe it off and said some few tips. Seems like Rodney is getting exhausted after pulling a dumb stunt like that. They want me to have the 2nd round. They want me to try my right steal maneuver. I agreed and the GONG sound signaled round number 2.
At the start Rodney still goes into the offensive. Punching with uppercuts this time around. Good thing my left glove is in my chin and tried to cushion his blows. I can feel each hit at my mouthpiece. My gums hurt after every hit. I knock my head with both of my gloves as I can feel ringing. Damn this early? I said to myself. Then I went to my tactic. I extend my right glove use it as an eye cover then started swinging with my left glove. BOOF BOOF. 2 hits!!! I have delivered 2 straight hits. I can feel Rodney swing back at his feet. I did a few straight punches with the right. He tried to answer with 6 tries at swinging or so. But I didn’t allow him. Somehow I felt on fire. I punched like crazy. Before I knew it I was hitting him like crazy too. I was also hit no joke. My eyes felt like it got cracked eye sockets but no worries. Boy 2nd round was fast as I heard the GONG sound already.

ROUND 3
The ringing of my ears is getting intense. My eyes and forehead is burning. The cold ice at my neck is what I really need. Soothing my pains. My coach angrily said that I’m not giving uppercuts. And I’m focusing too much at the head. He said I didn’t realized but I was punch many times at my chest area. So that’s why I felt like a car hit me!!! No shit. I totally forgot that I can do kidney checks and abs swing!! The GONG sounded and I am up again. This time around I ducked my head quite a few times and do some kidney shots. I hit check his back and started to do my trademark UPPERCUTS[its been a long time since I pull off one] WHAM a hit. Rodney fell down sitting. After a big struck of a left uppercut. “save by the bell” the crowd screamed because I cant feel it but the 3rd round is nearing at its end. Damn 3 minute really fly off so fast. But Rodney gets back to his feet and do the madman swing again. I got hit many times at those swings. Good thing the bell sounded. Is this personal? NO IDEA. Rodney and me barely knew each other. This is supposed to be fun

ROUND 4
As my corner pals check on me, they noticed I am bleeding at my nose. And that my left eye socket is going red and soring already [the fuck? What am I gonna tell the girl tomorrow when she returns? She has no idea about this boxing match] the only good news I have Rodney fall on his knees. I can go on for the kill. A big wash up of cold water then I’m up for the fight.
Rodney seems defensive now. Maybe he’s getting tired. HAHA time for my right cross. After 3 swings all full force[he did cover em] I swing a good left. That hit sidethrow Rodney to a corner. I then do a couple of combos. He was covering like hell all to the front. I did a few body checks. When I saw he punched back with a left, I dodged and knock a right below his chest. I can feel my knuckles numbing and sore of so much body shots and head shots. I saw Rodney cower with pain and put in his left hand near his abs area. This is my chance. A big uppercut right one. I even lift my leg. I saw Rodney’s head bounce upwards. I hit the dreaded chin!!! He hit the termbuckle and sat down. The ref pull me away. Adrenaline rushed to my nerves. 2nd time I knock him down! The 10 count is being called. Out of my surprised Rodney gave up. He said he is not feeling good at all. MATCH OVER!!!
K.O.!!!!!!!!!!
POST MATCH.
My team scream and we were like drunken bastards dancing around. I took off my gloves as the knuckle pains were killing me. I approach Rodney’s corner to check on him. They said he was okay. I can see his face swelling red. They were fanning him. As I haven’t notice my nose bleed again. I have spaghetti legs walking around. My friend drive me home. And some stayed a bit in my pad. They bought pizza and a few drinks downstairs. Much celebration at such a dumb thing. At around 11 everyone went home. Alone I hit the bathtub. A hot bubbly bath should take off my body pains. I can feel chest, stomach, kidney, forehead, chin, cheek and even my fingertips and knuckles were hurting. I checked my lower lip. Looks like its busted. They say from a head butt. I almost drowse off at the tub. But the athritic pain in my knuckles keeps me awake. I can barely straighten my finger up. The right knuckle bones were swelling.
SUNDAY
Damnit. I woke up around 11 AM. I even forgot to turned on the aircon. My bed is full of sweat and saliva. Yet I slept soundly [could be I was knock out too? Hehehee] I didn’t fetch the girl back that afternoon. I felt like I played 3OT basketball the whole night. Shit I got this black eye in the left portion and my right cheekbone is swelling.damn!!!!
That’s all folks. The girl and me have a good fight after that night. She thought I am a peaceful guy and not a fighting one. She never knew me back in college!!! Anyways make up sex is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
