Online gamer gets life for cyber-sabre stabbing

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Shanghai online game player who stabbed a competitor to death for selling his cyber-sword has been given a suspended death sentence, which in effect means life imprisonment, state media said Wednesday.

The case had created a dilemma in China where no law exists for the ownership of virtual weapons.

Qiu Chengwei, 41, stabbed competitor Zhu Caoyuan in the chest after he was told Zhu had sold his "dragon saber," used in the popular online game, "Legend of Mir 3," the China Daily said.

"Legend of Mir 3" features heroes and villains, sorcerers and warriors, many of whom wield enormous swords.

Wow, that's so pathetic. :shake: I've heard of competition that turns ugly, but that's usually a result from sports or physical activities, but jeez, this isn't even competition, but about possession.. over something that doesn't exist!

There was a similiar (well no so similiar) case handled like this on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Apparently a partner killed his game developing partner because the other one had lost weight etc and wasn't paying much attention to him. Gotta love the States. :lol:

pretty sad

did you guys hear about the mod that killed 2 members of a forum they all went to because they insulted him? they got a shotgun in the face, no joke. afterwards the mod was bragging about it in the forums, im not too sure if they've caught him yet.. it was on niketalk like 2 weeks ago

I've heard of people online threatening to kill others in games (I can't even count how many times it's happened to me), but usually it's just a lot of talk (which is easy to use over the internet, the old "you have no life, I'll kill you) sort of thing. But I've never heard of anything like that happening for the most part.

Seems to have mellowed out a bit though. Atleast I hope he has.

On another note, me & EG seem to have come to an agreement that we can be mature enough to let by gones be by gones. So we're pretty much fine now.
