The NFL Draft talk...

I'm following the NFL draft right now and I thought about making this thread so that anyone interested in football can make a comment or two about their teams' selection...

Here's the draftboard by Yahoo:

Atlanta made a food selection with Roddy White, I don't think there would have been another feasable choice. They need a WR to strech the field so badly. And Roddy's 20.something avg. per catch is defitley field-streching capable.

I feel sorry for the 49ers, there was no good choice for a number 1 pick.

And I can't wait to see where Adrian McPhereson goes. He's one of the most interesting players in the draft this year.

Interesting to see Aaron Rodgers being groomed under Favre at the Packers for the next year or two. This may actually be a blessing in disguise for his future, but financially-wise of course.

In addition, the Raiders traded back in the first round and picked one of the fastest players in the combine, CB Fabian Washington. All they had to sacrifice was disgruntled TE Doug Jolley...

Oh! defenitely Farve has hinted that this is his last year before retering and for Aaron Roger to get a tutor like Farve and start in a couple of years makes the wait worthwhile. (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y) (Y)

Well, O'Brien did screw up in the playoffs... but maybe they should have waited to get their guy later...

And Maurice Clarrett is going to Denver.

Hasn't palyed a down in 2 years and was expected to go around the 5th round, but the Broncs have a history of taking running backs in late rounds and turning them into 1000 yard machines, so maybe he's worth the risk...

A question to you guys: If you were the Packers' GM, would you select Rodgers to groom under Favre, as they did, or draft on need and pick a defensive player, since Green Bay sucked defensively last season?

If they believe he's a franchise caliber quarterback, it was a good decision. But personally, I would have picked a defensive player for 3 reasons. First, it's very difficult for rookie quarterbacks to do well in the NFL, even after sitting a year. They're going to make a lot of mistakes (unless your name is Ben Rothlisberger). Second, I heard on ESPN about how Aaron Rodgers' throwing mechanics are messed up, because he releases the ball too early, affecting his long passes. Third, defensive players can normally make a bigger impact sooner in the NFL, simply because there is less variance in College to NFL defenses as much as there is in offenses.

I'm not familiar with the intracacies of the NFL draft, but don't teams never use their 1st Round pick on kickers, but instead use later round picks to get them?!?

He wasn't a first round pick, he was the Jets' first pick in the draft. Second round , 47 overall. They traded their first round pick to us Raiders.

Yes, usually kickers/punters get drafted past the third round, but the Jets wanted to be sure no one else got to their man first...

You know, a good kicker can be the only differnce between an 8-8 record and a 11-5 record

About the packers, they need defensive players now and they need a quarterback in 2 yrs. Instead of waiting for farve to retire and then drafting a quarterback, they drafted rogers now and they going to develop him so he would be good when they need him. And the defensive players don't need a lot of time to shift from college to NFL so you could always draft a defensive player later. Quarterback is important.

That's true but without a good defense this year they will be lucky if they even make the playoffs, much less bring the Lombardi to CheeseLand...

Anyone know what number Braylon Edwards will be? I want a jersey of him, but he said he wasn't going to wear 1 this year and Kellen Winslow wears 80, which was what Braylon wore his first 3 years.

My guess would be his drapt order, no 3, but it's just a guess... Why would you want a jersey of him? You're neither in Cleveland or Michigan...

It won't be this eason though, as there isn't a decent QB in the Browns to throw at him...

No, he went to the Lions to battle it out for the starting job with Joey Harrington. All the Browns have right now nearing a decent QB is Kelly Holcomb, who has never been a starter although has put up some great performances as a backup...

I dont think there are any more good quarterbacks available.

I don't remember any, but I don't think there are going to be many FA signings after the draft... I believe the Browns are settled on Holcomb for 2005.

I'm satisfied with the falcons draft. Some Roddy White, some defensive players. Just no DB's. I hope Deangelo gets good, quick!

That logo has been the same for 50 years, sported by the old Brtowns before they became the current Ravens.

Changing it drastically would be like changing the Celtics logo (N)

Anyone know where to get college football, or now that I think of it, basketball jerseys? Specifically Michigan football and Georgia Tech basketball.
