Virtual Fantacy Technology Stock Market (Just A Fun Thing)

Wed Mar 23, 2005 7:24 am

i was watching "The Screen Savers" last night and they showed this thing on Yahoo called "The Buzz Game" and taken directly from their site it is
The Tech Buzz Game is a fantasy prediction market for high-tech products, concepts, and trends

As a player, your goal is to predict how popular various technologies will be in the future. Popularity or buzz is measured by Yahoo! Search frequency over time.

Predictions are made by buying virtual stock in the products or technologies you believe will succeed, and selling stock in the technologies you think will flop. In other words, you "put your play money where your mouth is."

Example

* You're bullish on podcasting; you buy shares of PODCAST stock
* Britney announces her next single will be delivered exclusively via podcast
* Curious tweens everywhere flood Yahoo! with searches about podcasting
* Your shares skyrocket; you make a bundle

peronally I love it, you register, its free. and you get $10,000 of "Cash"
you invest in "terms" and judging bu how much it is searched for on Yahoo, your "stock" goes up and down.

I like it a lot (Y)
its just something fun to do

I think we should report back here so we can see how it goes for everyone. So far I have Net Worth: $12,206.95.

Here's a tip
The fed is going to drop the rates, so take your money out of T-bills and put it all into [get's golf ball in his head] WAFFLES! tasty waffles with lots of syrup.

There's another similar cool thing like this that they run in the UK called CelebDAQ. Basically it's just like a celebrity stockmarket... the persons value is measured by how many inches of articles are written about them in various tabloids and magazines. It's kinda cool, when I joined I spent 60% of my money on a Big Brother evictee called Jon Tickle, just because he was so odd. One time in the house he actually put people to sleep by talking about Star Wars, but anyways, he was evicted and had no interest in pursuing a celebrity career so he cost like $0.5c a stock, needless to say I had shit loads of them. Five days later, Big Brother pulls this stunt where they actually have a vote and put Jon back into the house because he was so entertaining the first time around... because this had never been done before, EVERY newspaper and magazine had something on it and by the end of the week his value was like $7 or something stupid. I'd have been rich if it was real money.

That sounds like a pretty funny game Jae, is it still around? Even though I hate these new celebrities (Reality Shows and so on) it would still be quite fun to play.

Back to the game, I am now at $17,586.23, which is pretty good I think, I almost (well, not that almost) doubled my money in less than two days.
[edit]: What the hell happend now? I sold a large part of my chares and bought some other ones, and now my Net Worth is $8,775.24... :?
