Does the dentist cut your gum open and use stitches to seal it up?
How long will I have to eat liquids and the like?
How many days do you miss at school/work after it?
I'm surprised that they didn't go over it with you already.
Anyway, I had all 4 of mine out in the summer, so I can answer these questions. The procedure takes a few hours, like 4 or 5, and it sems like longer because of the anesthetic. After its done and you go home, you usually fall asleep right away for a few more hours until it all wears off. When I had mine done, they didn't give me enough and I woke up n the middle twice and they had to give me extra.
Yes they do cut into your gums to get all o fthe toth, because they usually have to break it in half and take them out in pieces. The stitches are freaking annoying, but they usually dissolve within a week if you don't play with them enought to pull them out yourself.
You only need to avoid the solids for like the first day or two, mainly because of the anesthetic. They usually tell you to only go with liquids for a week, just so you don't knock the stitches out, but its not hard to avoid the stitches when you're chewing. Sometimes it can be harder to eat solids because if you swell up like most people do, you can't open your mouth that wide.
I had mine done on a Tuesday, and I got to stay home untl the following Monday. Sometimes it might be longer if your face is still really swollen, because it can be hard to talk, and poeple will make fun of you.
Hope that helps.
