What's your favourite saying?

Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:04 am

Well, this thread is maybe dumb and maybe nobody will pay attention to it, but I just want to know more about people who do care.

It goes like this: You have to tell your favourite saying and write a short explanation why you think it is your favourite, if given the author.

Mine (it's three, I love them all):

1. "What don't brake us, make us stronger." (The Mailman)
I've recently heard The Mailman saying this in his Retirement Press Conference. When I fail something or get disappointed, I always think: Next time you'll do it better. Well, actually, to make it gramatically correct, it should be "what doesn't break us, makes us stronger", but Cowboys talk a different way. :cheeky:

2. "Man does not live by bread alone." (Deuteronomy)
You should not only fix at one aspect of live, but do many things together. Means you cannot just live with NBA Live or Basketball, other aspects are not less important.

3. "It's not your enemy who gets you, it's always your own people." (Nas)
I really have more discussions with my family as with others. Because you know them better than other people, and they know your weeknesses and how to disappoint you.

Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.

If you walked by a street and you was walking a concrete and you saw a rose growing from concrete, even if it had messed up petals and it was a little to the side you would marvel at just seeing a rose grow through concrete. So way is it that when you see some ghetto kid grow out of the dirtiest circumstance and he can talk and he can sit across the room and make you cry, make you laugh, all you can talk about is my dirty rose, my dirty stems and how am leaning crooked to the side, u can't even see that I've come up from out of that

I'll explain why later.

"Hard work and determination leads to success."

I think it originated from a Jordan Nike commerical.

The only way to change me is maybe blow my brains out.

1.What goes around comes around.
Why? Because its true, I've experienced it many times. Its also a door that swings both ways, so you have to respect it. Its the fundamental principle of my lifetime philosophy, and I believe it to the bone.

All it takes for Evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

This game of life is a game, and you have to play it to the fullest.

Life's a wheel of fortune and it's my chance to spin it.

I thought it was one each (I'm talking to you Goat and Onyx ).

I don't really have one, so I searched for some and took the first one I laughed at.
- 'A penny saved is not much.' / Timmy. Class 4A

Honourable mention to this one (for being the second one I laughed at):
- 'Baseball is wrong, man with four balls cannot walk.' / Not-so-ancient Chinese proverb.

Since ONYX started it I just followed his example. He was a bad influence on me. It's not my fault. :shifty:

"Success isn't permanent, and failure isn't fatal."

"What consumes your thoughts, controls your life.."

"Trying is the 1st step towards failing"

"if you sit on the fence, you get splinters in your arse"

"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. I’m not the thief who grabs your purse. I’m not the guy who jacks your car. I’m not down with the people who steal and hurt others. I’m just a brother who fights back."

"Don't hate the player, hate the game"

If I had to narrow it down to one I couldn't. two, I couldn't. Here's my three:

Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.
The only way to change me is maybe blow my brains out.
This game of life is a game, and you have to play it to the fullest.

For anyone who didn't realize all of the sayings I've posted so far are Tupac quotes.

EDIT:
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. I’m not the thief who grabs your purse. I’m not the guy who jacks your car. I’m not down with the people who steal and hurt others. I’m just a brother who fights back."

I really like this one. That's something good to keep in mind.

"What consumes your thoughts, controls your life.."

So true. One scenario that sucks: Love. If you're consumed by love, it's great when you're with a significant other. Once that significant other leaves you, then that love will consume you because you want something that you can't get anymore.

Thu Feb 24, 2005 10:33 am

"do unto others what you want others to do unto you" or it can be said this way
"don't do unto others what you don't want others do unto you"

pretty much explain itself already.......... 8-)

Say it everyday, man...

I'm also into the phrase lately, "Don't salt my game, man." Haters try to play my bitches, and it ain't right. So I just go over and I'm like, "Dogg, don't salt my game."

Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:07 am

My second:
"Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.
The only way to change me is maybe blow my brains out.
This game of life is a game, and you have to play it to the fullest."

muahahaha

My late grandfather sometimes quoted part of what I'm sure is a poem by one of the old poets...but neither I nor anyone in my family is sure of the origin (and a Google search only yielded someone quoting the verse in their forum signature):

"Life is all but froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone;
Kindness in another's sorrow,
Courage in your own"
