England?

Sat Jan 15, 2005 2:50 am

Why does England so suck at all team sports[bball,handball,wolleyball,waterpolo...] except soccer?

Sat Jan 15, 2005 2:53 am

becuase they are talentless?

Sat Jan 15, 2005 3:04 am

*Fuck off bastards*

We're good at drinking and thats a sport.

[bball,handball,wolleyball,waterpolo...]

Fucking Handball, who gives a shit about Handball.
Wolleyball, fuckin Wolleyball, is that the same as spastic Volleyball or Volleyball for the mentally impaired, play alot do you
Waterpolo  you need to get real. We live in a country that rains all the time, and nobody's getting in the fuckin water to play polo

except soccer

What about Cricket, Rugby & Bar Crawl, these are also team sports!

Sat Jan 15, 2005 3:07 am

hahah, cricket doesnt count cos that's a shit sport and the opposition (except Australia) is like a bunch of 3rd world countries. Rugby sucks too, players shove thumbs up eachothers asses.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 5:30 am

Actually cricket is pretty huge in the Commonwealth and South Asia. It's not common around here, though.

Soccer: Too self obsessed to see any need for improvement. Basically what happens in England, is that every game they go into the public (and players seemingly) think theyre going to win 5-1 and just decide they're the best team in the history of the sport. After the game, and the inevtiable 1-1 draw that's when they start calling for changes and improvements... until the next game comes up, which of course they're going to win 5-1.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 12:16 pm

Damn right Jae, England is probably the most underachieving team in the history of soccer.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 4:21 pm

Australia? haha, lost out to IRAN for a world cup spot.....shameful

Sat Jan 15, 2005 5:08 pm

More recently we beat England 3-1 and made a really good run in some tournament with some good teams... somewhere.

Dont type horrid sentences like that. We did win the world cup once(66). We've been struggling to repeat since

We would have won Euro2004 if we had'nt lost.

Yep. And the media feels the need to remind everyone of it daily.

[rant] I belive that one of the reasons is that people from England (most of the world actually) doesn't have the same mentality regarding competitions as people from USA has. It pretty much started with Vince Lombardi's "Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing." which made the entire American lifestyle become, not like many Europeans, for example, 'a loss is good as long as you did your best and had fun', but much more competitive and more about winning and loosing. That's in my opinion why people from USA takes competitions with much more seriousness and therefor eventually become leading in a certain event, just because they are thought from the start that they must win or else it's a failure. That's a rather big difference from other countries, like England for example, where it's more relaxed about competitions and more about to have fun while doing it... [/rant]

What about Athletics, we have been doing really well. Kelly Holmes is like the Muhammad Ali of the track, she'll be dominant for awhile. Same with our relay guys, if anything our whole athletics team are overachievers, nobody expected us to do as well as we did, 2004 was our best outing in 22 years.

Bring up Paula Radcliffe and you all die.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 11:04 pm

Kelly Holmes looks about a thousand years old, impressive none the less.

Paula Radcliffe lmao have a cry you sook.

excuse me for bargin in but England does not suck at sports.......they r prolly the only nation in the world thats capable of winning all the big tournaments......Football World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Rugby World Cup....those r the 3 biggest sporting events next to the Olympics and Commonwealth Games....
USA is the other nation that can win it all.....

Well, the last football World Cup win was 1966... Rugby World Cup more recently, but the cricket one was a while back too.
