a stupid grammar question

Hi all, I'm not a native english speaker so that's why I'm asking you guys.

I often read a phrase like "I should of made that shot....".

Now, I think that it should be "I should have made that shot...". But I'm not sure since many times it's an english speaker who writes it, so I assume he knows what he's saying.

So, which form is correct??

I know it's stupid, but I need to know the truth!!

both are correct if your speaking

the right one is have. some people probably write "of" because of how it sounds the same when you say it (depends on the accent)

the use of. the sentence containing the word 'of' is colloquial (hehe i spelt that wrong i think).

But both are correct.

"Should of" technically isn't correct. When you're speaking it doesn't really matter, but when you're typing or whatever it should be either "should have" or "should've"

Uhm...so, "Should of" isn't correct, but since it sounds similar to "should have" it doesn't really matter when you're speaking.

But you can't write it, right?

Yeah pretty much... it sounds fine when you say it, but if you type it it just doesn't look right.

The only reason it sounds like "should of" is because people mangle the "should've", they tend to prolong the "'ve" which makes it become "of" to some people.
