Favourite Movie

Postby iKe7in on Thu Nov 11, 2004 5:44 pm

What's you favourite movie from the past 5 years? Give a brief explanation of the plot, who stars in the movie, and why it's your favourite.

My favourite is by far, Memento. It stars Guy Pearce, Joe Pantaliano and Carie-Anne Moss. It focuses on the events of Leonard Shelby, a man out for revenge on the man who killed his wife and put him in his current condition. His condition being short-term memory loss. It is by far the most confusing movie you have ever seen, until you've seen it twice. After you watch it the first time, your head will hurt. The scenes in colour are backwards chronologically and the intercut black and white scenes are straight chronological.

It is my favourite movie because of the est it poses to the viewer. With several different angles and storylines all somewhat related, it plays an outsanding mental game on the viewer, simulating the condition that Shelby has. It was not a very well known movie, and was shown only in limited release, but it did win several awards. It was shot with a budget of about $50,000 and was filmed in 8 days, which is surprising bcecause of the precise nature in which the film is put together. The acting is amazing and the editing is by far the best I've ever seen.

If anyone has ever seen this movie, feel free to discuss your interpretation of the meaning of the film, and what you believe the ending (or beginning, I guess) is meant to reveal.

I don't really have a favourite movie, I like tv six million times more. Especially tv on dvd. The best DVD's I own are Dave Chapelle stand-up, Jerry Seinfeld stand-up, and the Family Guy DVD sets.

I have favourite tv shows though: Chapelle's Show (The Rick James episode was on last night :D , Charlie Murphy kicked my ass in his dreams), Seinfeld, Family Guy, Buzz, Scrubs, plus a bunch of sports shows. I used to like CSI, but now it's just turning into a load of crap. Anybody see the last Miami one where Horatio is driving out of an explosing building. BS. And I'm sick of them trying to find new ways to solve crimes, especially when they do something like take footage from a crap resolution security camera, get a reflection of some guys glasses, and the blow it up to 1024*768 and see a piece of hair or something that gives away a crime. :x :x :x

The Godfather Series + Scarface. They're on the top one spot for awhile now. Before it was the Jackal though...& Psycho. Anywho's, just bought the Godfather DVD box + the Scarface Collectors Edition DVD. I'm in heaven.

1 more than 2 & 2 more than 3.

I don't think anyone needs an explanation as to why I like these movies.

Alltime Favourite = Hoop Dreams

Its a documentary following the lives of two young inner city kids entering highschool and trying to live out there dream of becoming basketball superstars spanning over a period of 6 years. Thus being a documentary don't expect too see fairy tale movie ala Hoosiers, this documentary is more about life, struggle, family etc.

Roger Ebert - Many filmgoers are reluctant to see documentaries, for reasons I've never understood; the good ones are frequently more absorbing and entertaining than fiction. "Hoop Dreams," however, is not only a documentary. It is also poetry and prose, muckraking and expose, journalism and polemic. It is one of the great moviegoing experiences of my lifetime.

Some other favourites include: Good Will Hunting,Boiler Room, Antwone Fisher, Finding Forrester, Rounders, Menace 2 Society, GoodFellas, Memento, and lots others I just can't remember at the moment.

Oh brother where are thou? was a pretty sweet movie, with George Clooney, based on Homer's The Odyssey and had lots of banjo-ish, bluegrass music. Pretty funny too, if you watch it a few times and the sense of humour appeals to you.

The movie I've watched the most times though is definitely My Dog Skip. It stars Frankie Munich, about he is really small and picked on all the time, then he gets a cute little dog and it becomes his best friend, then he makes friends with the dudes who picked on him and starts going out with the hottest girl in town, then his neighbour Dink who was a super athlete gets back from war and becomes a drunk, then Willie (frankie) gets in a fight with Skip but then there is the sick dog hospital scene, and then it is a happy ending. Makes me almost  everytime I watch it. Ahhh, what a great movie. I actually stole it from a friend about 3 years ago.

Pretty good one, I've seen it too many times though.

Yeh I probably screwed the quote up.
