Official ESPN NBA 2K5 Thread

Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:54 pm

Here it is! Anything relating to ESPN 2K5, Live's competition, belongs here.

The latest Fear The Fro Friday has been released, featuring ESPN's 24/7 Mode.

Fear the Fro Friday 9/17

One of the new cool features that's been implemented is the option to create your own shoe. They released a video on the site which gives you a brief rundown of the feature.

Sticky? It could prevent the thread from falling off which could lead to multiple ESPN topics.

Good work (Y)

Finally somebody thinking. I am getting tired of BigBen2K5 making a whole bunch of ESPN threads. I think this should be stickied. Keeps all the arguments in one place. Nice thinking (Y).

You beat me to it! Good job. (Y)

24/7 Mode is such a waste of programming time...

Yea I agree, they really shouldn't have added it, maybe focusd more on gameplay instead, or just added an All-Star weekend of their own. Ah well.....

If you can get into the whole 24/7 mode it is probably pretty good. I tried it last year but soon got bored after having to see the same exact layup animation a couple hundre times in a row, because it was the only shot my player could do due to low ratings. If I had a longer attention span and got past the intial state of boosting the ratings and got to the part where you get teammates and stuff, I can see how 24/7 could be enjoyable. Given though, I'd wrather have ESPN use the efforts towards improving the basic 5on5 real game action.

24/7 Mode carries a lot of potential with it. If there would be a way to take your player further, maybe have him get drafted by a team, then it would prove to be quite useful.

As much of an NBA Live fan I am, I think I have to pick this game up. All of theis for only $20! It looks great.

I think it they made it like you were a guy in highschool or college training to go to the NBA, and your everysay practice was to keep your skills up, and in the end you get drafted etc, then it would be really sick, I would play it for sure.

Man I'm so excited about the games this year, the only problem is that it's going to be a war between fans, the games both seem so good that it will be nearly impossible to pick a winner.

That is one of the better ideas I have heard lately. I would surely play the mode then, because it would have an overlapping effect into dynasty mode, which is the real reason I play this game. Great idea :applaud: .

I would get both if I didn't sell my PS2. I think they should release 2K5 on PC. For $20 I could finally compare the two games and make a real decision. The only reason I prefer Live right now is because the last ESPN basketball game I had was pretty old and Live was the better game for me at that time. But now I have the urge to try them out but I can't...

I think 989 tried something like this in Shootout a few years ago even adding the NBDL, but the game was so damn horrible it was pretty much a non-factor

24/7 could be good, look at NBA Ballers, however I think if ESPN wasn't to do something like that they should make it a seperate game, and focus on making the NBA game better. I mean imagine if the time gone into 24/7 was more spent on gameplay, franachise, etc.

ive tried espn nba 2k4 and i did not liked it. yep it has some good moves like the double pump reverse layup move. something which was missing in ea sports nba live. but the game for me was dragging. no one seems to be moving on my team. and it has only 4 offensive plays to choose from. i dont know with this version. i need to read the review first before buying this game.

I think last year live 04 beats 2k4 easily but not in this year's edition.

I already played both Nba live 05 and Espn 2k5 PS2 Version , all I can say is 2k5 is alot better in graphics and presentation. With gameplay itself I think both are good. Also with the Franchise mode, I think 2k5 is still the winner but live 05 also has a good Dynasty but not as good as 2k5. With the bonus games like 24/7 mode of 2k5 and All-Star weekends of live 05, Live win this category. I love that slum-dunk contest and 3 points-shootout of live 05 but with the 5-on-5 game itself I prefer 2k5.

i would also like to see a espn sticky thread. with all the topics about it all over the forum it would be nice if there was 1 place where everyone could go to talk about it.

Thu Oct 07, 2004 2:12 pm

I'll sticky it, if no one uses it I'll take it back down again.

Is this thing available for PC? I can't be farked looking over this thread for the third time and I can't remember if it was mentioned. I did a search for the game but only xbox shit comes up? For some reason I was under the impression it would be available for PC. If it is, I just wasted the whole day, when I could have gone to the market and got a copy!

Nope, not on PC. I'm borrowing my friends XBOX for a week on the school holidays and will be playing March Madness 05 and ESPN 2K5 :D

Live is better anyways imo, but I guess it's better to try both.

ESPN games on pc. I don't think SEGA would want to do it, because of the small portion of profit that pc game version give compared to other console version. But I still hope SEGA or other company release the pc version because it would be great if each year we (pc gamers) would be treated with 2 (or more) great NBA simulation games instead of one.

Tue Dec 07, 2004 3:24 am

Nope, it'll never be on PC, no Sega games are in PC. Except for Virtua Tennis.
I just tried ESPN 2k4, it's quite good, it's very realistic, but I still think Live is better  .
