htomail gets spammed harder than yahoo does, i signed up to both service with the same name and my hotmail account got spammed within a few days and i didn't use them for anything. Yahoo is much bettter, but I guess since MSN has hotmail/ msn messager and the whole .NET passport crap, why not spam them harder than yahoo.

too much info.... :)

silly people, you should learn....
1 email for signing up for shit. for example if you want to subscribe to some porn (like our friend j.23 here), give them your sign up email, because you'll be hit with tons of spam...
1 email for personal stuff, things not controlled by companies or large websites....

I'm signed up with Hotmail. I used to have a bad spam problem on my old accounts but this one seems fine.

Hotmail's not too bad. Mine decided automatically (in recent times) to put junk in the junk folder. The only problem with that is that a) 3-4 junk e-mails a day get through; and b) sometimes legitimate emails are moved to the junk folder; i.e: an email from my lecturer which I didn't realise I received till days later. I think if you use the email account provided by your ISP, you should be alright. Since you use the free shit, you have to deal with it Homernator.

Nice number of posts you have there Stoivan, 1-2-3-4.

My hotmail was doing fine a few months back. Suddenly it started bombarding me with Spammage. On top was a notice kind of thing that your spam filter has been deactivated and what not. All I did was set it to normal orso & all the spam stopped. I stopped receiving PM notifications from both the NLSC & dotorg though. Meh, all I had to do was tell em not to block those endings..."blah blah@nba-live.com" or "blahblah@nbalive.org" & now I can get them again. Yippie for spam filters. :D

I use Hotmail. I've had the same account for almost 2 years, and I've never had a big spam problem. Actually, the only time I've been spammed was a few months ago, I got daily random messages, followed with advertisements. But that stopped recently. I do get plenty of e-mail messages I don't want, though, but I sugn up for all of it.

Stevan, to fix your spam filteration problem just set it to the lowest level thing... so it lets all mail through, i had a similar problem.

I've had the same hotmail account for 6 years now. It gets tons of spam, but the hotmail junk filter works and gets rid of 95% of it. I basically just use my e-mail address so I can sign up for things and get joke-a-day things sent to me.

Hear my story:
I signed up to sbc yahoo! dsl and I got a bounce of free email accounts @sbcglobal.net with 100M inbox.
I thought: nice!

After a week or two, I get an email from sbc/yahoo! with the subject "introducing your bulk mail folder".

The email explained how to take advantage of it. So I thought:"uhm..nice, even if I didn't give away this address to any website yet..it may come in hand in the future"

The day after I got around 70 spam mails in my "new" bulk mail folder.

MORAL: SBC/Yahoo! sold my email address to some damned mailing list. Since then I get a lot of spam....and I pay for that account!!! (it's included in the DSL service).
