just wanted to know how many people have IE here ... to them, i'd just say try Firefox and say good bye to virus and popups. Since I have it I can't browse anymore without the tabbed browsing

I use the free version of opera... you don't even notice the ads, and it's so perfectly amazing... you start trying to use mouse shortcuts in windows that don't exist other than in Opera... I love it.

Firefox

Pros:
    -tabbed browsing
    - in built download manager
    - in built popup blocker... this is one of the things i like most about firefox. its simple but really efficient (Y)
    - faster loadup times
    - customisability

basically, it has all the features as internet explorer and then some.

Cons
    - longer start-up time when compared to IE

that can be atttributed to the fact that internet explorer is integrated into windows so it already loads up when you start the computer.
the difference in startup time is only a couple of seconds though and it happens only when you first open the browser after starting up windows.
so whether or not to call it a con, is really up to you :)

and here's a couple of links for anyone who's interested...

firefox and firebird are the same software indeed, the browser was first called Phoenix but had to change for Firebord due to copyright problem, but there were another copyright problem so when version 0.8 went out, Firebird was renamed Firefox :)

the latest version is 0.9.2 ; v. 1.0 is coming out soon :o but for a beta version it's incredibly excellent.

the hardest thing I assume is to change your browser: going from IE to Firefox isn't that easy when you have habits. Indeed, both are very similar, it takes about 2 min to understand how Firefox works
But once you did it, you'll never want to come back to IE anymore :D

What would be the difference between Firefox and Opera (other than the ads?) Because Opera has popup stopper, tabbed browsing, mouse shortcuts... and it's very, very fast.

I at one point had IE and Mozilla and Opera installed, and the only problem was it kept asking me which is the default browser (until I clicked don't ask again, of course) - I definitely recommend trying a different browser. The thing about IE is, other than it's slowness and lack of features - is that in Windows agreement it states that Microsoft is allowed to recieve information from you, so every time you go to a site it it sending microsoft the site you are going to. In addition to an invasion of privacy, this actually causes your browser to run much slower (because it is constantly sending info back and forth before loading the page). 3rd party browsers don't do this. The only problem with 3rd party is that often sites will only be compatible with IE, so you have to keep it on your comp to view those chance sites.

that's not so right, even if sites are designed for IE, in 6 months I can have acceeded 98 % of the site I visited. And even if sometimes the appearance was a little buggy that was not a problem for browsing I could get all the info I needed

all the more as IE has about 150 security failures while Firefox has *almost* none :P

Sorry - I worded that incorrectly. Sometimes, sites will NOT be designed for any 3rd party browsers - not specifically designed for IE. So sometimes these sites will have conflicts... I myself have only had 1 or 2 sites do this however. And actually they were both my own site. The javascript news scroller and flash movies didn't work. Once in a while opera has problems with flash movies... but all other sites I've been too seem to work fine. (Y)

Yay, I luv' firefox.

It automaticly blocks all popups. But you can choose to unblock at certain site s if you want. I unblocket the forum since the pm popups.

One other good things are the tabs which allow you to have several page in one window
