Uh-Oh Madden Might Be In Trouble! (ESPN NFL 2k5 Info)

Postby Mazzocchi on Wed Jun 30, 2004 6:29 am

got new issue(August 2004) issue of PS Magazine, and Madden Might Be In Trouble, entitled-
IT COULD...GO...ALL...THE...WAY!
EIGHT REASONS ESPN NFL 2K5 COULD BE THIS YEAR'S NO. 1 FOOTBALL GAME

1. FURTHER ESPN INTEGRATION
Instead of just hearing Chris Berman prep you, now see Boomer on the SportsCenter set.
Expect pregame, halftime, and postgame shows, complete with highlights (Full-Motion with hard
drive, stills without), and Trey Wingo and Mel Kiper join in to discuss NFL happenings (trades,
injuries, etc) and hot prospects, respectively.

2. DE-FENCE!
While Madden utilizes the right analog stick for big hits, ESPN uses pressure
sensitivity for the tackle button. Hold it down for a wrapping tackle or tap it for a
higher-rick attempt at a crusing blow

3. NARROW ESCAPES
If you see a linemen heading straight for your quarterback, hit the right
analog stick to execute a QB evasive menuver. Also, hitting (X) as a defender wraps
up a bal lcarrier gives him a shot at escaping the
defender's grasp

4. PEANUT VENDORS
Plus about 200 more great looking cut-scenes, including Gatorade dumps (licensced!),
tailgaters, locker room scenes and more!

5. NEW FRANCHISE FEATURES
Franchise mode isn't jsut for sundays anny more. On a day-to-day aspect manage every aspect oof
your team: coaches, rehabbing players, preperations for the next opponent, and more. Focusing
on offence will hope you overcome an awesome D, but your own defenders will become more vunerable,
because they're getting less attention. Also, you could cause injuries if you work your guys too hard!

6. 25TH ANNIVERSARY MODE
Celebrating a quarter century of the total sports by reliving-or changing-25 of the
NFL's greatest moments of the last 25 years. The mode included ALL names, even for the
retired players

7. ONLINE ENHANCEMENTS
If your network addapter is plugged in you're logged into Segas network when you turn the game
on. Play in an online league, and have injuries, trades and more saved on the online server. It's
basically an online season mode, and yo ucan even logg onto the web to check on things

8. VIP SYSTEM
As you play games using a profile, ESPN learns your play style. You can
load your profile into the CPU as your oposi-
tion to ahve the A.I play the way you do. Put yout profile onlin, and others can effectivly
play against you without actually playing against you. This means you can use your
friends' profile as pratice so you can kill him the next time you actually play each
other. The game even includes some teams that follow the play styles of celebrities. Because you
know you've always wanted to compete against Jamie Kennedy and Carmen Electra.

I'm sorry but with this i think this year, I'm gettin ESPN, what bout you guys?

I'm buying Madden, then, maybe ESPN. I might just get Madden for PC, and ESPN for console.

ESPN can't match up to Madden so they have to lower the price just to get customers :D

I got to thinking. Since ESPN NFL 2k5 is 2 1/2 times cheaper than Madden, they may sell more copies(I doubt it.) . But if they sell twice as many copies as Madden, EA still makes more money.

I can't wait for NCAA Football 2004 either...A little preview for Madden.

ESPN 2K5 will be better than Madden. It's been better for the past five years, in my opinion.

Sega/Visual Concepts 2K series games have outdone EA in NFL and NBA since the originals for the Dreamcast. I don't see how you guys don't realize this.

When it comes to Madden's hailed "outstanding" graphics, ESPN kills Madden, in my opinion.

no sports game can top madden. madden is easily the king and every other sports game is just trying to play catch up.

I already bought the game.

Overall: 8/10

The presentation is well done but the gameplay still isn't fluid. There are minor problems with the CPU AI. The players look messed up with those T-Mac eyes. I liked some of the new tackles and animations which are more realistic that Madden's. This is the first time I played FirstPerson Football. It gives you a nice feeling but you are definitely not going to have an easy time in offense.

$20 is right.. this is how much the game is worth really. You get what you pay for. Nothing special. :|

If you want to shell out some extra cash and get a game until Madden comes out, then feel free to do so. You could either be surprised or disappointed.

IGN Reviews:

PS2:
10 Presentation
Quite simply, a sports game has never been this well-presented. This is the poster child for exemplary use of a license.

9.0 Graphics
This is one handsome football game. Great animations, excellent player models, and cool ESPN integration make this a looker. A little chuggy at times.

9.0 Sound
Excellent contextual commentary utilizes the ESPN talent to the fullest. On-field sounds and music make it even better.

9.0 Gameplay
Realistic and fun, packed with modes and features, this is a very complete game. Default difficulty is still too easy.

10 Lasting Appeal
Can you make $20 stretch further? Online head-to-head and league play, an excellent Franchise mode, the collectible Crib, and cool VIP feature means you'll be playing this one 'til the cows come home.

9.3 OVERALL:
(out of 10 / not an average)

Ok thanks, is that the international release date?
And does a Madden site like Nlsc and.org exists? If so could someone put a link to the most popular ones. Thanks.

They have 2 different styles of gameplay and right now I don't like the way ESPN plays so I will only be buying Madden. I've had it reserved for a week now(the collectors edition w/all the old maddens).

Well, I just bought ESPN, and I'll tell you guys this: it is the shit!

It's an absolute steal at $20. I'd buy it even if it were 50.

I just bought this game and I like it so far. The gameplay does not seem as good as Madden was last year but the realism and set up with ESPN style impressed me very much.

OOOO! Just what I wanted! Peanut Vendors & LICENSED Gatorade dumps!!! Madden IS in trouble!

Haha, sorry but the only way Madden is is trouble if:
1. Somehow the EA Tiburon buildings were to catch fire and they lost all their work on Madden.
2. If Sega gives their games away for free. (They're getting there...)

They are basically giving it away for free

The gameplay is no comparison because Madden and ESPN have 2 different styles. Madden to me is more action while ESPN is harder, slower paced, and not very fun

Like I said, they did great work with Sportscenter, Halftime wrapup, post game but the gameplay is  .

Yeah, the presentation pwns but it's about the only thing that does. I bought the game the other day and played it but it's ok. I'd give it a 8. something out of ten. The players all run like they have wedgies or something stuck up their butts. :D Madden's graphics are better imo. (I have ps2). In Madden you can see the shoulderpads in the jerseys and the stomaches etc, but in ESPN you can't see much of that, they all look like ramps or something.
