::NFL Season 2004-05 (Predictions & Discussions)::

Postby Macca on Sun Jun 20, 2004 1:29 am

Hey ya'll :D

For those of us who are interested in Pro Football (yes I am from Australia and I do like the NFL) I've started a new thread for the upcoming season and with some big moves made over the summer, I want to hear everyone's thoughts and predictions of what will happen, why and so on.

I'm 'rooting' for the Panthers this season since their Superbowl effort, and from what was an incredible season after 2 years of pretty much crappiness. Especially when led by Delhomme, Peppers, Manning Jnr., Smith and Davis to name a few, plus Coach John Foxx, whose style of coaching has been much talked about.

Another good tip for this year's Superbowl will be Philly and Oakland, who have recruited some new players to help out, to drive them to success. Those from Philly: Owens and Kearse, who will be welcomed to help out Dawkins and McNabb. Form Oakland, the ageing Rice and Gannon will be helped out on defence by Sapp and Washington.

But overall, I want to hear the people’s comments, on the Draft with QB’s Eli and Ben, with the last Superbowl; the Pats and Cats and the other news.

Hope to see great interest, and big hits (Y)

Macca

P.S> For reference in those interested, go to NFL.com for the latest news and stories, or head over to a team page!! Cheers, (B)

im hopin my jets can at least win 4 games :?
we have some good names on defense, but it just dont work, i guess likewise for offense, though im hopin Moss and Jordan have solid years.

if Vick is healthy, Falcons are big contenders.
Eagles with the Mcnabb-Owens combo will be good, and they always have a solid defense to put on the field.

Panthers look very strong also.

Jets will be better, they drafted Vilma.

Philadelphia won't do as much as everyone thinks, yes their offence is more reliable with T.O. and their pass rush is great with Jevon (got the jersey), but if a team throws the ball before Jevon gets ot the QB their screwed. In their secondary they've got Brian Dawkins and no one. Everyone is forgetting they lost Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent to the Seahawks and Bills. They're still going to loose in the NFC championship game. See you in Hawaii Andy Reid.

My fav team is the Falcons. The first superbowl I saw was 98 with the Bronco's and Falcons and I decided to cheer for Atlanta. They have the possibility to get into the playoffs on the strength of their offence. There's Mike Vick, who can now throw to Peerless Price, Brian Finneran, and Alge Crumpler, along with pick ups Dez White from Chicago and draftee Michael Jenkins. They also have two could pass catchers out of teh backfield in Warrick Dunn and TJ Ducket. Their defence is greatly improved, which isn't saying much, it's shit. They might crack the top 25 defences this year though since they've picked up Jaosn Webster from San Fran and Deangelo Hall in the draft. Their secondary is still relatively weak, but the line has a great player in Kerney and the linebackers have a great player in Brooking. It might turn out better than I think.

Go Falcons.

Eagles all the way.

(I'm a Philly fan...)

Terrell Owens > Bobby Taylor + Troy Vincent

Their secondary is weak but I'm hoping Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown can come through. Brian Dawkins is the 2nd best defensive player in the NFL, so he can help. Maybe we'll see him moving to corner for a bit... no. Vincent and Taylor didn't play much all year anyway. It'll hurt, but not that much. They did make the NFC Championship with no WRs. Now they can make the NFC Championship with no CBs. The Panthers won't be a surprise anymore and teams will be ready. I think last year everyone played their best possible football and I don't think they will be as good. Jevon Kearse can't hurt, too. Losing Carlos Emmons will hurt a lot, too. But they will go far.

In response to Homer:
Vilma is Jonathan Vilma, a beast of a linebacker out of Miami (Will they ever stop producing NFL players! Clinton Portis wasn't even a starter when he played there in college!)

Garcia and the 49ers disliked each other. He played so awful for them and if I'm not mistaken him and TO hated each other.

If the Cowboys can replace Quincy Carter with someone who can throw the ball within 5 yards of the receiver they'll be allright. Before you say Testaverde or Henson, according to ESPN Quincy is still number 1 on the depth chart.

Dallas has a problem in the NFC East. Every team in the NFC East probably will be in playoff contention so they can't take it easy because the other teams will be right next to them. (Except Philly, who will be way ahead. ;) )

Not for long... :D

I was a pretty big Quincy fan, but he just can't get the job done. I can see the potential but sometimes he thinks he's Mike Vick and can scramble out of the pocket, throw 50 yards down the field with a perfect pass, and score a big TD. Since Troy left, we have been QB-less prett much. Starting rookies and what not. I think Henson will do pretty good. Testeverde may be old, but he can still throw the ball.

I remember the Cowboys new back, Jones, in college. I don't think he played last year, but he was a big time player. I hope they don't regret the decision of drafting him first.
