Who here reakons its a bit risky over there...

Also- are the Olympics popular around the world?

And wat will u be tuning into?

I think I'll watch Australia and USA... cause thats probably the only game which will go on FTA T.V. I will watch the 100M and also any freestyle event Ian Thorpe is in....

Whatever they put on over here, they had better put some ball on @ a reasonable time this year, its normaly 6am or some shit like that. What they do in UK is stick it on BBC2 and thats the only channel it will be on. Over here its a case of like it or lump it, cos no other channels(we have 5) will carry it!

Wed May 26, 2004 9:31 pm

Maybe a little offtopic, or maybe not. But Im going to see the Dreamteam play a exhibition game against Italy

the greece olympics wont be as good as the sydney olympics in 2000 that will be the hardest ever olympics to beat not just sayin that coz im aussie i hate sydney personally so its not a matter of being biest.

I'm hoping I'll see some more basketball than I did in Sydney...Prime did a terrible job of broadcasting the 2000 Olympics. They showed a few events ad nauseum, with snippets of other sports (like basketball) every now and again. They restricted the best coverage to a special pay TV channel, when most Australians are going to be watching the games on free to air.

They're supposed to be catering to the free to air audience this time around, but it would have been nice to have better coverage for "our" games. (N)

Thu May 27, 2004 4:51 pm

yeah i reckon stupid channel 7/prime i liked how in closing ceremony video highlight they showed the vc dunk over the 7'3 guy 3-4 times

Thu May 27, 2004 5:34 pm

a great aprils fools day joke occurred in australia this year where a radio station announced that some of the events mainly the swimming events for the olympics will be hosted in brisbane sydney and melbourne australia coz greece couldnt get their shit together in time and that if ppl wanted to be volunteers in being part of the games to go to certain places to sign up and of course ppl fell for it and thousands stood in line for hours for nothing. The reason why ppl fell for it was because there was talks in what was to happen if greece couldnt get stadiums done in time that the games would return to sydney/australia and that also greece hadnt even finished their swimming stadium and apparently sydney had been plannin for probably 18 months an opening ceremony just incase.

Thu May 27, 2004 7:38 pm

we need more basketball games in general on t.v.

I dont care if Seven/PRIME show all the Olympic BBall games... they should show NBA!

Thu May 27, 2004 8:10 pm

i reckon sports tonite isnt showing anythin lately just final scores of games some nights its bullshit cant even watch nbl games on free tv now thats gay considering u can watch wnbl games on abc

Fri May 28, 2004 2:35 pm

Sports Tonight shouldn't even bother covering basketball. I can't remember the last time they showed decent highlights of the NBA, and more than 15 seconds of NBL highlights (though they'll show plenty of recaps, news and highlights of other sports).

Fri May 28, 2004 5:22 pm

Yeah but i guess its due to the audience

You have to admit that league, AFL and cricket fans are a majority of audience compared to us Ball players

Fri May 28, 2004 5:57 pm

im sik of sports tonite showin 5 minute highlights of soccer i mean who the fuck watches soccer in this country i luv how after the soccer world cup how there was talks in 100 yrs soccer will be bigger than afl rugby league and union in australia what kinda of bullshit is that. soccer is too slow too boring and weak with the "injuries" soccer players get yet 1 second after gettin an aerosol can spray on their injured leg they can run back on the field and go nutz again like nothing happened i mean seriously what kind of weak shit is that

Fri May 28, 2004 6:29 pm

Hey man- dont dis soccer!

Its better than gay-f-l

Fri May 28, 2004 6:50 pm

sorry man just to me personally soccer is weak

Absolutely. Basketball is not as popular in Australia as those sports. But a little more coverage on FTA (even if it's a few more highlight packages on Sports Tonight) would be nice.

Fri May 28, 2004 7:23 pm

yeah but the thing is football is probably mainly more popular with the older ppl in australia the younger generation would be more into other sports bball is back on the rise u can have proof of it for example in sports store mainly footlocker i remember bout 2-3yrs ago bball almost seemed dead u could barely even buy a bball shoe the national league was quiet but now products and popularity is back on the rise the nbl can now afford to pay higher wages to players the league has expanded crowds r up especially in brisbane hense why 1 reason games were moved back to entertainment centre for playoffs the other reason was coz covention centre was booked most days bullets games woulda been played at especially if they beat kings maybe in the next year or so it will be covered more on tv ive been incontact with member of nbl board and hes informed me there r plans to get it on commercial tv

Fri May 28, 2004 11:03 pm

man ST is shit! I hate it. They spend 30 mins talking bout local sports. As if it's not enough that we hear about it ALL day. TV & radio focus on AFL, NRL and Cricket. They try to ram this crap down our throats, funny thing though is that more kids play basketball and soccer than any of those three. Can't any show cover international sports. I mean damn, over in Europe, a lot of countries do a decent job of covering international sports, and better yet Cable was so so cheap that I had access to 2, 3 games a week of Live NBA on DSF + shows.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but Australia is so full of itself. AFL, NRL and Cricket aren't the only sports in this world in case people haven't noticed. They all suck anyway.

Anyway, on the Olympics, i believe that 7 had Dream Team playing at bout 2am as i found out....how crap is that

Fri May 28, 2004 11:40 pm

man thats more fucked up than seeing john howard get drunk

Sun May 30, 2004 1:12 pm

lol- I remember that. My dad told me the Lithuania- USA game was early in the morning...and it was the game US nearly lost. I was like,"Damn man! I missed it!."

And I'll only think Basketball is on the rise if either jerseys make the shelves or basketball is back on free to air t.v.

This is homo!

Lol yeah right, in England they dont even have the Premier League of their most popular sport on FTA. AFL coverage is like an hours worth at 5am every now and then, foreign basketball un-heard of, rugby league too. Oh and their college basketball coverage deserves SOME credit tho, they showed 2 games a week at like 2am. The actual coverage was the prob, like they cut the game up so much then 2 mins from the end, 1 team was leading by 13 and it stops and this host goes "And (team) managed to make a comeback but ended up losing by 2" wtf??? Show the last 2 minutes, fuck the first 2 if you need to make room. ARRGGGHHH

Sun May 30, 2004 10:47 pm

i still remember one kick-ass play from the Lithuania game, it's where KG scores on 4 dudes under the ring, man he looked pissed off on that play. W/o KG USA would have not made it to the Final.

This current USA team needs some hard ass ballers. No Vin Bakers or useless college players. The team needs to consist of guys that are unselfish and that WILL play even if up by 30 instead of clowning around

That's why Team USA needs Ben Wallace and Richard Hamilton
