avatar/sig limits?

Any chance you're going to limit the sizes of avatars & sigs, Andrew? Some of them are rediculously big. I'm on cable modem and it loads slow, I can't imagine how long it takes on 56k.

I said before I opened the new forum that I would consider limits or maybe even disabling the signatures etc if it got out of hand, so yeah, I'll look into it.

I know some forums are set up to allow each user to turn off signatures and/or avatars under their personal profile settings. I'm not sure whether that can be done with phpbb but that may be a solution that would be keep everybody happy...

I think that the sigs should have about a 468 x 70 limit. And for avatars, 64 x 64.

I've been looking into it. The only way I can limit the size of avatars is to disable remote linking and enable avatar uploading. This way, avatars are stored on our server and therefore limits are enforced. Let me know what you think.

Or you can punish people that have too big a sig... 1 warning then he has two days to change it, if not he gets deleted?

Hey I think that something has to be done with huge avatars and sigs.

Kobe4mvp has that as a sig :
Leading Vote Getter Of The 2003 NBA All-Star Game
Broke The NBA 3-Point Record With 9 Straight Hits and A Total Of 12 Hits
Posted 5 Triple-Doubles In The First Half Of The 2002/03 NBA Season
3-Time NBA Champion At Age Of 24
Scored 56 Points in a NBA Game
All-NBA Third Team Member, 2 Time All-NBA Second Team Member And All-NBA First Team Member
All-NBA Defensive First And Second Team Member
5 Times NBA All-Star Starter
2002 NBA All-Star MVP
Youngest All-Star In NBA History At Age Of 19
Member Of The NBA All-Rookie Second Team
1997 NBA Slam Dunk Champion

I feel he doesn't respect any conventions, those kind of people must be learn restrain & moderation very quickly !

and i begin being sick of stupid 200 x 300 avatars of Kobe or anyone else ... it destroys the layout of the page.

Andrew please do something :!:

Well, I've set restrictions on the avatar upload feature, so I could simply disable remote linking on avatars, hence all avatars would have to be uploaded to our server and be subject to the restrictions. I would have to get in touch with people personally about their signatures, because there aren't any automatically enforced restrictions I can set for that (as I can with avatars).

Please Andrew do something with Kobe4mvp, look at his posts it's rare when they are more longer than 1 line
http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~nbalive/phpBB2/search.php?search_author=Kobe4mvp

Indeed I wouldn't mind at all if his signature wasn't so outrageously long :x

http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~nbalive/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=25716&highlight=#25716

Is one of the too numerous example.

Could you please warn him, it's annoying because of the time it takes to donwload each time and the place on the page it takes but it's above all a matter of respect and behavior.

i don't mind his sig,
its only text, which is about 2kb in size which is nothing. just takes up space, but thats not a problem..

Yeah, I know I'm complaining for little things but young people like him must be learnt when they arrive for the first time for their life on a forum that there are little rules to respect.

Jowe you wouldn't have anything to say about big avatars anyway because your own avatar is so damn big (like mine).

I see a pattern on this message board... nearly all the people who have either too big avatars, or signatures, have "Kobe" in their usernames.

Pretty please, if anything can be done about the signature of KOBE8, whose is by far the most ridiculous, with 3 (yes, three) images that take up an entire 800x600 monitor (I have to use that res. at work), I, and probably others, would appreciate it... nobody wants one post taking up an entire screen...

And I also agree with Alexboy on Kobe4mvp's sig... its not a matter of size in KBs... its more about how much screen space it takes... I'd rather have meaningful posts cover my monitor than worthless signatures...

I beg the moderators/administrators to take my suggestions into consideration.

-2000 Signature Character Limit
-No Larger Than Default Unless Only One Line

I've reduced the sig limit to 2000. As far as pictures go, for the mean time I will continue to get in touch with users whose signatures are causing problems.

Hey, I'm not a computer genius... Can you guys help me?
I was just wondering how do I get a picture under my name and/or in my signature? I think some of the pictures are really funny like the one with the NBA Live 2004 logo and Vince on the floor.
