Crazy static sound in Kazaa

Postby Colin on Mon Jan 26, 2004 7:26 am

I don't know if any of you are experiencing this, but many people at my school (including myself) get this strange sound like static on some of teh songs downloaded from Kazaa. Some have it and some don't. Mostly the newer ones have it. Anyone know anything about this? Is it to do with people doing a bad job of ripping the songs on to their computer, or is it a hardware issue? Do I have to get a new file sharing program like WinMX or something?

Apologies to mods if this is considered discussing illegal stuff.

I'm no computer wiz, but I think it's one of those anti-ripping mechanism where if u try to rip a cd that has it, the ripped songs contain some sort of static noise. i think thats what i heard. i could be wrong though.

I've heard it in songs that were obviously recorded off the radio (I heard Kay Slay talking) so it might not be it.

How could that work though, something in it that changes the sound once it gets converted to .mp3 or something?

It's a bad rip. The protection can cause a bad rip. Just keep researching. Eventually there's a good rip. 192kbps has fewer bad rips than 128.

the RIAA put them fake ones out there, it only plays 10 sec and then it turns into that annoying sound. a lot of these problems have been disscussed in the k-lite forum, you should visit it sometimes, its quite useful.

it boggles me that people download these crazy sounding songs, and don't delete them. Why would 41 people be sharing it?

They could be bots. Which are the lifeblood of any sharing network.

I don't know them, I didn't say I did.

Ben, by bots do you mean some computer that is always online with a high speed connection, that downloads everything. I didn't know they had things like that. If it's something else I'll go hang my head in shame for looking like an idiot.

Yes. I love bots. There's even more of them on mIRC and eMule.

They already got shutdown by Kazaa, but the client still works.

As MC Hao said...they're RIAA decoys. I aways try to find files that have some website advertised in them...or "ripped by soandso" which usually means a real user made them.

I think the reason so many people have the decoy files is because those accounts are dummy accounts also set up by the RIAA specifically to hold the decoy files.

There alittle bit more than decoys. This is how the RIAA deals with Kazaa, they have their servers running 24/7 serving up corrupted material (which in turn corrupts even good downloads) They cant tell what your getting just how much data is going to and from their servers and get your ip if they see the same ip over and over again. Then they get your isp to break the privacy statement that you signed and get your info. They then have to find the material on your hd or cd's. This is how they stay out of legal trouble with respect to internet privacy. They make the isp's the people that break agrements with consumers.

Use WinMX. The RIAA isn't attacking WinMX.
