a lesson learned in life in just a short time.........

has anyone here ever seen in the news someone that has gone on a shooting spree at work?I often wondered what drives ppl to do something like that, and now i finally realize and understand what it is. Just this week I started to work as part of my holidays and was hoping for around 2 months work, but i realized that i won't last more than 3 weeks if that. Not because it's hard work because it really isn't, but because my boss is the biggest asshole known to mankind. This has driven me to quit after under a months work. I'd quit now but the pay is good. But i don't appreciate hearing him swear, scream and demoralize co workers. Add to that the fact that we have to work between 8.5-10 hrs a day which leaves me tired and unable to do anything at all. Now i consider ppl that work their lives like this, there is no end. Each day is like the next, the weekends are as precious to you as water in the Sahara. They are the only things that keep you relatively sane. They are your freedom. Picture my life for the next 3,4 weeks. wake up 7am, get ready and get to work, start @8:30 and finish anywhere from 17:30 and 18:30 mostly. Go home and when you arrive all you can do is watch TV and eat sumthing. By 21:30 you are so wreacked you go to bed and it all starts again. I'd go insane if i had to do that for the rest of my life, and quite honestly i might've even gone on a killing spree. A life like that is just insane and i don't know what motivates people to continue day in day out. It's not even a life. You work about 8-10 hrs a day and then have 4 hrs of personal time and then sleep. I'm glad that im going to Uni or whateva and hopefully getting some kind of business degree so that i can work in an office or sumthin like that. 9am-5pm aint so bad.

Well basically i just wanna let everyone know that you should get an education so that you don't get stuck in a dead end job. You'll regret it big time if you do. My thoughts go out to all those who lead such a life, it's like slavery and yet i know there are children in Bangladesh that work 12hrs a day, every day just trying to survive. This job has really taught me a lot about life and also how to approach it. There are ppl out there bustin their balls (pardon me) to make a living. The ywork long hrs
and in the end have not time for their family, for sport and just any lesuire or recreaction. This makes me appreciate how I spend money now.

Peace

Good thread man.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I worked in a factory last summer during the holidays pretty much like you. 7am start, 3pm finish, sometimes overtime, and I worked most Saturdays, so I only had Sundays off.

A lot of the people there hated it because they knew they were stuck for life - the mental barrier has got to be an unbelievable burden. On top of that, yes the boss goes off on you sometimes. I saw a guy get really upset, tell the boss to fuck off, and storm out once  Most of these poeple are imigrants, with families to support, houses to pay off, and no choice. For me it was ok, I lasted almost four months because I knew why I was there, I had a goal and I knew it would eventually be over.

I felt sorry for the some of the guys there who were doing 12 hour shifts. Some of the them worked 7 days a fucking week! There was one young guy like me, around 19-20 years old, speaks pretty crappy English and has been working in factories since he was 16 or so because he came over here from Europe and didn't like school, coudln't be bothered. Now he's working 12 hours a day, at least 6 days a week. On top of that he would go out on the weekend, come home at 5 am, then work 12 hours!! Crazy!

Certainly puts things in perspective. I remember you said you were saving up for a trip to America? Just don't forget why you're doing what you're doing. Think of the money, think of the great time you'll be having once it's all over. It's not forever. Just do your job, tune the boss out as much as you can and you'll be ok. I used to play all sorts of crazy mind games with myself to keep myself sane while doing all the repetitive stuff and trying to make the time go quicker. I kept imagining how I'd be cruising around once I got my new ride :D Think of the chicks :P

Don't have experience in this department, but I kind of understand how it is, my sister's boyfriend is going through this thing at this moment...he's looking for a new job though...on top of his work atmosphere being awful, its very far from his house...so usually he would take the car.

A few weeks ago the cops stopped him at night and said he was DUI, they told him to blow on sumthing and it came negative, so he was not DUI, yet they kept telling him to blow...he did it for about 7-8 times, after that he said, screw this, I won't blow no mo(re). They took his license ( )

He won't get it back for a year, so he has to take the tram and then walk another twenty minutes to get to a job he hates, but has to do.

Aah, life :? .

Pyscho Jackal, why doesn't he fight that? It's illegal to take his license after he's blown...at least in the US. You have to refuse the breathalyzer from the start to lose your license, not after you've blown 7-8 times. And why were the cops such dicks?? That's insane, 7-8 times, and no result?

We live in the Netherlands, the cops over here are power crazy, as soon as they have a uniform on, they think they are God.

Anyways, he did go to the judge and all (there was a case filed about his license) but the Judge agreed with the officers and said if he was asked to blow 20 times he would have to comply since they had reason to doubt he was drinking.

IMO, just because it's because he's an Antillian (from the Islands) the cops kept badgering him. The dutch people have a very very negative attitude towards the Antillians (although the Antillians are to blame...).

That's another story. :?

another day done, and tomorrow is payday to which i'm looking forward to. One thing that ive realized is that every waking moment that I'm at work I'm thinking of going home. I know that i won't be working long but that doesn't comfort my misery at all. Today i must have carried about 5 tonnes of steel collectivley, i have burned hands and neck (despite wearing a very good hat) and also blisters plus that asshole boss of mine. Theres no way i'm working on the weekend, i have made plans to go out and he won't make me come in.
I'm also looking toward the 19th of Dec, my last day, but i know that i can quit anytime i feel like it cos i've got the power to do that but that doesnt give me any comfort either. I'm happy with the $400 i earned this week, and that should last me 1 1/2 months so i can quit whenever and be fine with it. I have a legit excuse for quitting (apart from the fact that i wanna shoot myslef at work)......i need to fill up my log book to get my drivers license, and that takes time which i don't have and after work i'm too tired too drive (nearly caused 2 accidents driving from work today) and i wanna play state league basketball or WABL (for thos in WA who know of it)

i can't wait till this misery ends, i just gotta hang in there

don't give up now. go til the end of your contract. then you'll be proud to achieve things like this.

I had like young strong summer jobs before. I thought about giving up, cause that was hard and I didn't really need the money, but once it was over man, I felt good and proved myself I can accomplish hard tasks

And best of all : once it's over, when you remind about it, you think that actually, you liked this job :D

come on man!! my sister is working at the factory I worked at last summer and she just pulled through the first week and she ain't bitching! :D

You have to think about something else while working. Try chicks. Chicks are good. Breats. Ass. The whole lot. MMMM :D  Carefull though if you walk around with a chubby you might need a hard hat for it. Don't want any 'accidents'.

i have burned hands and neck (despite wearing a very good hat)

Hey is it one of those hats that kids would wear in primary school? You know the little extra long bit at the back which you can roll up and attach to the velcro, or let down to protect your neck? Those things are funny as!

Think about it man, couple more weeks and you'll have over a grand to play with over the summer. Besides the first week is always the hardest. Get some rest, practice some driving on the weekend and you'll be alright :D

Let us know how you go man (y)

our work shifts so we don't work at one place all the time. We move from place to place

i'll be playing in the WABL which is diff from the SBL. I gotta get into game form and get my left hand dribble back to play good. I played 3 practice games 2 years ago against a WABL team and i top scored all 3 times i think, we beat them every game and our team was made of players who didn't make the cut........i made it as a starter but i quit to focus on school (which i didn't do, lol)
