Official NBA 2k7 Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Just started a new Lakers association to tie me over until 2k8 comes out. I was using relatively up to date rosters (no current rookies) and swung a few realistic trades in my opinion to get Kobe some decent help.

First trade: Radmanovic, Smush and Cook to the Kings for Abduh-Rahim, Garcia and Woods.

Second Trade: McKie, Woods and 2008 2nd to Phoniex for Marcus Banks.

Then I signed Marcus Fizer to a 1 year $1.12 million deal, and a scrub C Podkolzin to $400k 1year minimum deal.

So my line-up looks as follows

STARTERS:
C - Bynum
PF - Abdul-Rahim
SF - Odom
SG - Bryant
PG - Banks

6 - Brown (PF/C)
7 - Garcia (SG/SF/PG)
8 - Walton (SF/PF)
9 - Farmer (PG)
10 - Mihm (C)
11 - Evans (SG/SF)
12 - Turiaf (PF/C)

IR1 - Fizer (SF/PF)
IR2 - Vujacic (PG/SG/SF)
IR3 - Podkolzin (C/Drink Boy)

There's a fair bit of depth, some nice role players to support Kobe and Lamar who can D up and put some points on the board when required. 2-2 so far, with a big win last game against NOK (100 to 70). Kobe had 30/6/7. Abduh-Rahim is playing with an injury so his production has been limited, but Kwame has been playing good D and getting some decent rebounding numbers. Banks has been average so far, while Farmer has impressed in his skill of running the offense. Garcia is great, hoping to find a way to squeeze him some more minutes. Possibly play a Garcia - Kobe - Odom - Walton - Brown line-up, which could play zone on D.

Anyway, will try and continue to post some progress.

why'd you trade Cook & Radmanovic?? they are blocking machines in that game. and Cook's 3pt rating is higher than Gilbert Arenas's 3pt rating

Love Garcia, hes awesome.. Develops well if you put the time into him.. I often run him at Point in my Zones or Traps too (Y)

I think your overall rating probably went down when you replaced your old drink boy with Podkolzin though

Cook and Radman are gone cause I wanted an post presence (Abduh-Rahim) and for the fact I hate soft bigs. Might have cost some 3 point effectiveness, but the players I received in trades for them fit my system much better.

Played another game yesterday. Mihm played well of the bench with a double-double. Kobe was Kobe. Farmer continues to impress, might start soon as he runs the offense with greater ease than Banks, plus gets a few rebounds here and there. Only problem is he gets killed on D. Bynum hasn't done much of late, so Mihm after last nights game is getting the start spot.

Overall the C spot is weak though. Was thinking about making a trade for Bogut. Maybe Simmons & Bogut for Odom, Bynum and a first. Will have to suss it out.

01 76ers,Blazers,Kings,Lakers,Mavs
00 76ers,Blazers,Hornets,Knicks,Lakers,Pacers,Raptors

73 Knicks
72 Lakers
71 Bucks
70 Knicks
63 Celtics

I just played 3 games with this

08 Rockets vs 08 Blazers

then 92 USA vs 08 USA

and 85 Celtics vs 08 Celtics.

Something about playing with Francis back on the Rockets, LBJ vs Jordan, and the "old" Big 3 against the "new" Big 3 just made me smile :)

If you have an exchange kit, you need to get this file. Frickin Amazing.
Opinions are my own.

I've played 2k7 (PS3) for the first time, and I am very disappointed. It's probably because I've heard so much stuff about how great it is, and so I got my hopes up for it and was expecting a great game. And that, it is not.
The graphics, UI and presentation are really bad. And the gameplay... Well, I suppose I'm too used to NBA Live, because I simple don't like it. I'll keep playing it though in hope to finally see what's so awesome about it..

Andreas, I would suggest trying 24/7 mode to learn the controls. It has a few street moves that aren't in the regular nba gameplay, but nothing too crazy. When I first got the game, I did not like it. I had quit many games without finishing them. After completing 24/7 mode, I am enjoying it more. I am not sure if the PS3 version is any different form the 360 version, though. I hate the UI, too.

Yea the UI is a pain. But I don't think the graphics are that bad, other than the weird animations I think it looks pretty good, especially during replays. Sure it's not exactly the most "next gen" looking game out there, but it sure is a ton better looking than ps2 or xbox. The courts look amazing and the player models look good (except theres afew that are waaay off).

Andreas are you using a HDTV?

i agree with the 24/7 thing. it's a great way to practice. and you better like the game now, becuase after you play it for so long, you can point out all their little mistakes.

Thanks for the tips. I've gotten to Miami now in 24/7 and it has started to grow on me (a bit). But, there's still a lot of stuff I don't like about it. Like the dribbling; It feels more like just holding in turbo + L2 and hope that the player does something remotely close to what I want him to do. That, together with the long animations (which by the way, is one of the better aspects of the game. However it would be great if you could break out of them) makes it feel like I'm not in full control of the players.
I'm also having problems with the man on man defence. Any suggestions?

I really don't like the graphics. If it wasn't for the moving jerseys (which are really well done) and the crowd, it looks like it could probably run just as well on a Current Gen machine. And I can crap out better looking courts in 30 minutes
Na, unfortunately I've only got a regular TV (B&O Beovision Avant is pretty awesome though). Yet on that, NBA Street Homecourt makes 2K7 look like a damn joke.

Andreas, I preferred 2k6 over 2k7 personally, but I'm hoping 2k8 is a big step up....the more you play 2k series game, the more it grows on you....

Well I usually played with Cavs but since I got 2k7 for the treystation I've made a franchise with the Magic just for the Dwight, and theyre a fun team to play with. The rookies in the draft look very strong, theres about 10 rookies that could be drafted 1st overall and theres even afew guys in the second round that have B+ potential with B talent overall. Theres also guy compared to Lebron James whose projected to be drafted at 16th overall whose potential is A+, he's 6'7'' 235lbs. So anyways as you can tell I'm pretty pumped for the draft.
With the way the teams been playing I'm looking at anywhere from the 14th- 7th overall pick in the draft, I've simmed afew times and theres an A potential A+overall SG who'd be the perfect scorer for my team that usually falls to the 5th or 6th overall pick who i really wanted to draft (he also won RotY the year I simmed and was 80 overall rating), so I made afew trades for the Knicks 1st rd pick just to draft him while keeping my 1st round pick from this year also. Anyways I always have crappy long posts heres my new roster.

C -D Howard 90, D Milicic 74, T Battie 69, Araujo
PF - B Outlaw 72, D Lee 73, M Taylor, P Garrity
SF - G Hill 82, T Ariza 73
SG - JJ Reddick 74, S Pavlovic 72
PG - J Nelson 85, K Dooling 73

As said I have a 7-14th 1st round pick, and a top 8 overall pick also in the draft.

And by the beginning of next season this should be my roster

C -D Howard 94, D Milicic 76, T Battie
PF - Rookie 75-80, D Lee 74
SF - Josh Howard 84(FA), G Hill 80, T Ariza 74
SG - Rookie 80, JJ Reddick 74, S Pavlovic 73
PG - J Nelson 87, K Dooling 74

After resigning Hill, Pavlovic, Outlaw, and Battie for lighter contracts, letting go of Taylor, Garrity, and Araujo and resigning Darko for a slightly larger contract I'm left with about 30 mil Cap space which I might then use to sign a good FA. But I'm not sure yet because both Howard and Nelsons contracts end the following year.
Anyways I was just really excited so I thought I'd post my Magic assoc.

nice to see a fellow magic player.

Dooling is :hump: :hump: :hump:

Ariza is only :hump: because he can't shoot 3s.

garrity's pretty money too but he's too fancy

and diener's pretty money if you need instant 3s.

i hate how nelson always gets rejected when he lays it up. :x

i usually start and make regular subs
howard Battie
milicic Garrity
turk Hill/ariza
hill/ariza Dooling
nelson Diener/Dooling

sometimes i swap hill and ariza or move dooling to the point and play redick depending on the situation.

ever notice hill's inside rating? love making inside shots with him (Y)
once i played against a friend and scored 77 with Dooling :o

you got any magic tips for me?

yea Dooling is so unreal, Ariza has cash D and always dunks on people.

My only magic tip is DONT EVER TRADE THE DWIGHT. He's averaging 14 boards a game right now to lead the league (maybe thats cause I play turkoglu at pf and he can't rebound for shit for some reason)

yeah man, i'd try to play Dwight and Darko together and play battie and garrity off the bench. dwight & darko are defensive walls inside. battie and garrity are special in their own little ways.

well honestly ping doesn't mean too much because i've played games with guys with no ping (all red) with no lags, no problems on many occassions and i've been disconnected with guys with great ping.

Can't believe I actually read this entire thread. Jeez, its been a boring day today.

Well I just got NBA 2k7 for the ps2 a few days ago and I must say I'm pretty much addicted. I don't think I had this much fun with a basketball game since live 03 . The presentation is awesome. I'm liking that half time report of the game. It makes it look like a real nba game. The animations are in my opinion great, the dribbles, the crossover's , the overall flow of the game is fantastic. I'm amazed with the fouls, I never thought over the back fouls would be in the game, but they are in it. The commentary is okay, it doesn't lag like it would in live and I think I will accomplish something I never did in live, finish an entire season. The game is quite cool since I can blow up a high ranking team and lose to the bobcats the next game. Also the little factors they put in the game makes it detailed. I love the 3 way trades. I'm using the Cavs and made a few good trades.

Overall a kick ass game, my only regret is that I didn't get into it sooner.

lol it's funny how we're so close to the new games and I'm actually making a good run in online play. I've shot up from like 1500 rank a week ago to about 300. will the ranks/records carry over to 2k8?
