I didn't want to make a new thread for this, but can someone tell me what cables I need to hook up my macbook to my tv? My tv has the ability to connect through a regular desktop computer, the basic cable that almost every desktop computer uses to connect to monitors. My macbook doesn't have that though.

I have these outputs on my macbook, and I do have an hdmi input on my tv. I'm starting to think I'll need to buy some sort of converter.

Odd, most new laptops come with an HDMI thing.

I think you should read this thread, it will explain which adapter you need (dvi to hdmi, which is odd since one is analog and the other is digital?) and an audio one since I'm guessing it wont do sound for you.

You should ask the guys at your electronics store, I know most new TV's just have a DVI thing too. At least the 3 tv I've connected computers to, do.

I'm guessing Doobie's macbook is really old since he mentioned the things he does with it and gets slow downs and freeze ups, things I can do with my 3 year old laptop with ease and no such effects. Even while using that resource hog iTunes and 20+tabs in IE.

Doobie wrote:sometimes this laptop freezes up while I'm listening to music on itunes, using Ichat and have 3/4 tabs open in Safari. My current macbook also slows down tremendously when I open itunes and do other things.

Ah, didn't really read that.

Most of his posts usually end up full of self loathing, self doubt and/or weed, so I don't really read them too carefully.

Just pick some frequently used keywords such as "help", "weed", "life", "advice" & "can't"...then make a little fag story about it & post it et voila, you're Doobie.

Don't forget "motivated" and "now". Those two are usually used by Doobie together.
"I'm motivated now guys!"
*after a few months*
"Help me with my life guys, I tried the advice given to me but I can't do it."

Those keywords you gave work out great Jackal.

Okay so I only got about 900$ budget, now I'm ok if I can't play 2k11 or other games in their maximum. My friend told me that Asus or Samsung are the ones I should buy. I'm not that good in laptops but can you guys give me any suggestions?

Also I found out an Alienware laptop that's pretty decent but it only has 11 inch screen. I'm looking for a 14 inch.

Not satisfied with 11 inch, dare wants it bigger. Ask pimpdaddy Lean. Maybe he can arrange you with some of his clients that have 14 inch. :cheeky:

This. Installed it just now. (Y)
iTunes started acting shite and I can't be bothered to troubleshoot and removed it since I don't have an iPod anyway and I don't want to use WMP because it hijacks the tag info of the songs.

Not bad. Might have to learn and get used to some of the options but the good thing is it has some similarities with Winamp (the good one, before version 3).

Yeah it's based on Winamp, a lot of the same plugins and shit work. You can also get a lot of cool skins for MM which makes it easier to get used to, mine looks like WMP11 at the moment;

Do you live near an Aldi? Wait for their next laptop. We bought a medion computer from them 6 or 7 years ago, which still runs fine. So don't worry about the quality. They also have a 60 day refund policy, no questions asked and usually good warranties.

If you guys want a music player that doesn't use much memory and doesn't fuck up, try foobar. Its an open source that doesn't do a lot more than play music, but it does that dam well.

Tried foobar.
Seems like foobar is for advanced and nonlazy users if you want to have your own preferences. It's not much 'out of the box'. You have to do some tweaking to get the things you want like an organized display of your songs. Even getting the displayed categories you want requires a bit of work or customization. It's bad that it's Help doesn't give you much of an idea.
It also relies on finding components/plugins. Got the official components only, the one that impressed me the most is the component that skips the Windows mixer. Maybe it's just me but the sound quality improved when I put that one, even better than MediaMonkey. Quality is like the Winamp of old that I got used to.

Like Laxation said, foobar is damn well if you're only after playing music. It's like getting an iPod Shuffle because you only care about having music played and nothing else.
But if you're a bit OCD with your song collection like me and want a music player right away with easily available options and no extensive tweaking of the configurations, MediaMonkey does a great job.

Still using foobar just to see what them forum geeks have in store to make it better.

Yes, this is the laptop for gaming right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834220695

$1500, an i7, a 5870, 8GB ram. Thing is a beast, it will eat any game out there right now alive and do the same for the next couple years. If you have to game on a laptop it's the best possible purchase available that I'm aware of.
