Me too, I tend to carry ammo for everything even if I'm not currently carrying a particular gun; just handy to have on hand. Ammo having weight and the different approach to healing in hardcore mode is what makes me a little less inclined to play that way.

I reckon it will be a bit like Resident Evil on Hardcore Mode. Having a limited amount of items with some more Dunwich Building-type areas would be pretty cool.

For those who know the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series on PC, there was also a similar mod for those games, and it makes things really, REALLY hard. You basically think twice before shooting stuff...
But since I thought it was pretty easy in Fallout 3 to become a badass quite fast, I think it could be a nice alternative, I think I'll try it right away.

I did find Fallout 3 a bit too easy. I didn't discover VATS until the final mission of Broken Steel, and still managed to get through the game without much trouble at all by drip-feeding myself Stimpaks. The ease did make the game all the more addicting and playable though, and I'll likely go with Normal mode on my first playthrough.

Which difficulty were you playing on? Even on Normal difficulty, there are a few creatures that can kill you in a few hits once you reach a certain level.

Wasn't there a difficulty slider? I think I was on "hard", but my slider was probably not all the way up either. I thought there was a huge difference in difficulty between the vanilla edition and some of the DLCs, especially Point Lookout. Even with crazy armor and weapons, those swamps monsters were crazy hard to kill...

No slider, just five settings: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard.

I played on Medium. I think Oblivion had a difficulty slider.

I think Oblivion had a difficulty slider.

I got confused with Oblivion then.

Here is some additional background on how the game came to be developed:

He certainly is passionate about it.

I wouldn't mind Fallout series going back in the direction of turn based RPG styled game. The heck, I would welcome both ways anyways. Let Obsidian boys work on retro style Fallout while Bethesda work on 3D shooter type of Fallout.

Trouble is, Obsidian fails on games based entirely on their own engine.

Would the old style really be profitable though? It would appease fans of the original games but like those of us who want a PC release for NBA Live/Elite, they're a vocal minority. I think they'll have to either stick to the old games if that's what they want or accept that times and technology change and that certain genres have evolved or gone extinct.

If they make it good, I don't see why not. I can't remember the last time enjoying a good turn based RPG game. Closest thing that came was civilization series and hero and magic or something. Seems like the market has died away as you suggested though.

I'm sure there would be people who would buy it and be very excited by that prospect, but I think the approach that Fallout 3 took is ultimately the more profitable one and sensible evolution of the franchise.

Well honestly, despite being disappointed with the "updates" Obsidian did with the Gamebryo engine, I am looking forward to FNV by the main reason that it's being made by the guys who did the first two games. Now I wonder how taking on Bethesda's Fallout games would become a stepping stone for them in future Alpha Protocol games.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:53 pm

They won't be making any more Alpha Protocol games.

Well I couldn't care less. Alpha Protocol is not really a good game yet a polished game at that.

I don't really recall a game made by Obsidian that's really polished.

Good sirs, we have robot sex in Fallout: New Vegas.

And now the countdown begins for the Australian ratings board to make a fuss about it.

How bad can it be anyways, especially when GTA had more than sex in the game.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

The Australian ratings board doesn't have an 18+ rating for video games, thus they get finicky about these things. They did it for GTA: San Andreas and they complained about Fallout 3 as well.
