sorry to break the news, but I wouldn't mind hearing from Ty or another person who has played the 360 with & without the right TV for their views on the matter....
Yeah I agree that a HDTV or a LCD monitor is a necessity. While the picture isn't bad on standard def, the difference is outstanding on HD and really makes a difference. In my view only in HD do you get the true feel and value of the system.
With the connection to a monitor you don't have to use the component leads. You can buy, as i did, a HD VGA cable for the 360 for about $40AUD which has the typical 15-pin D-Sub connection. That will allow you to connect to any monitor and get pumping in HD.

Ah damn. I wish I was loaded like some of you guys are sounding. Loaded, spoilt, or hard worker, whatever you still have more money than me! I would kill to get a decent TV, but I wanna use my 16" LCD computer monitor, but I don't know what i need to connect to my xbox. I'm getting an xbox 360 for Xmas and I would love to have a decent display. Can anyone hook me up with what I need to get to connect my LCD screen to my xbox?

I have to disagree with you guys, the difference between a hd tv or monitor and sdtv is not that significant. You can notice the difference, and the graphics are obviously better with the superior technology, buts its not the necessity that users are making it out to be. Its not like its comparing black and white tv to colour.

I'm assuming you mean a lcd monitor? Just get the vga adaptor from eb or ebay.

I'm thinking of getting an XBox 360 when I get enough money. There is a deal on at the minute; XBox + Hard Drive, Controller, Project Gotham Racing and FIFA World Cup 06 all for £300 whihc is roughly $555.
Think it is a fair enough offer?
Sat Jun 24, 2006 5:03 am
No because if the Xbox 360 pro is $400 and each game is $60 thats $520. But its only a few dollars so do what you want.

I'll take myself as the hardworking one because I've not the other two
Matthew wrote:I have to disagree with you guys, the difference between a hd tv or monitor and sdtv is not that significant.
for me, the difference between a 20" flat screen & a 26" widescreen LCD is significant....but I went with a bigger, better tv that has more vibrant colours....the 360 would've looked better on this tv even if it didn't have HDTV capabilities....
I don't want to discourage anyone from getting a 360, I just wanted to give my opinion....when I got the system I was happy, but I felt like I wanted more out of the system & I wasn't going to get it with my current sdtv....
I think a good option for most people is to do what Ty did & just get a VGA cable so that you can run HD through your LCD monitor....
one question though, I've heard from different sources that LCD's under 20" don't have as good quality as ones that are 20" & up....it's suppose to have something to do with technology....and no, a tv salesmen didn not tell me this....is this true?

Don't get me wrong, me disagreeing with you isnt saying your "discouraging people" from buying a 360. If they want one, they'll get it

. I just think that the difference between the sdtv and my hd lcd monitor is a bit exagerated. it is significant, dont get me wrong, but its not like comparing colour tv to black and white. The xbox 360 is still extremely playable on a sdtv with noticable graphic upgrades.

How do you know if your LCd monitor is HD?

look at the component inputs....make sure there are blue, green & red inputs....that is for the HD....if you're talking PC monitor then I guess someone else will have to help you

High Def is 1280 x 720 resolution.
Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:16 pm
If I edited my resolution to that would it be the same lol. I have a noice monitor.
Thu Jun 29, 2006 12:22 pm
One thing that bugs me about the 360 is that they dont have HDMI cables. HDMI makes everything razor sharp.
Thu Jun 29, 2006 1:51 pm
My computer is set on 1024x768. it looks great, it's just a matter of getting some VGA cable,
Hammertime, I guess it would work. Resolution is just how much you can fit on one screen. An SDTV is like in the 640xsomething. if your monitor can cope with it, then by all means use it.
Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:36 pm
Mine is 1024 by 768 as well. So can you show me where you get your vga adapter when you get it and how xbox 360 looks on it.
Sat Jul 01, 2006 6:30 pm
EB games sells them. Any half decent electronics store should sell them. I have to warn you though, they are pretty expensive. Not tonnes, like the price of a new game. I might be getting a VGA cable, but I'm still not sure.
It's either get that, or buy a game in the meantime while i wait for my 360, then trade that game in...

P=Progressive lines
I=Interlaced lines
An SDTV is 540i for NTSC
An EDTV is 540p for NTSC
An HDTV is 720i/720p and 1080i/1080p for NTSC
A Computer monitor is 1024x768 or 768i
The resolution for monitors/tv's are vertical so 540i means 540 lines of pixels.
If you buy a VGA cable its only $40.00 and it upscales 720i to 768i.
Hope it clears some things up.

Last weekend I bought a 360 and I gotta say
its fucking awesome
It looks good even when its not on a HDtv
Right now I have 7 games, here's a little description about each
Condemned ($40) - Really fun, kinda like F.E.A.R.
Table Tennis ($40) - Amazing multiplayer, like the best ever, but single player isn't really fun at all
Fight Night Round 3 ($60) - A lot better than the current-gen version, seemless online play so big
Burnout Revenge ($30) - Again better than the current-gen version and again Online play is awesome and fun
College Hoops 2k6 ($25) - The jersey movement is so realistic, I love this game, how can't I, it has knockout
NBA Live 06($40) - Loading Screen Loading Screen Loading Screen, I've shot around more than I've played the game. Im just waiting for my datel XSATA for current rosters and sliders to really start playing that game.
I have been a PS2 guy for a while, but this is a lot better than PS2, the ability to plug in your iPod while you play the games is awesome (see video) and Geometry Wars from the live arcade is a lot of fun.
So yah if you have the money go get this system, its worth it (and they aren't going to drop the price in November)
Video of my first time on Xbox Live - Gettin my ass kicked in Fight Night Round 3 with my custom soundtrack in the background. (at 7:00 minutes in I knocked his bitch ass out good)

oh and another really good thing, almost
every game for Xbox 360 has a demo released on Xbox Live that you can download for free...so it really is a nice try it before you spend 60 bucks on it

It's from the same team is it not? I believe they both run the same engine...though F.E.A.R. uses more special effects (However. I have only played the Condemned demo so I cannot speak for the entire game.), and heavy weapons in place of pipes and 2x4's obviously.

I just wish that stores would do what they're supposed to and download new demos for their display units.

They seriously gotta have something like that for the PSP... I've wasted so much money taking a risk buying PSP games and end up hating it
Tue Jul 04, 2006 10:32 am
You can download PSP demos off of the internet, and I'm pretty sure they're legal and everything. I've never tried any but I've seen them around.

Wed Jul 05, 2006 11:23 pm
I read on above posts that it's possible to hook a console with a computer screen... Can someone check if it will work with my monitor?
