I know, I'm not saying that white audiances can't, I'm saying that his music was directed towards black audiances (God that word is annoying to spell).

audiences

Everything They Owe.....i think that goes at the justice (lack thereof) system

Changes.....that's a general song, not strictly for a black audience

but yes, your right......i like the song They Don't Give A Fuck About Us. That song is on point (as are all of Pacs songs)

Keep Ya Head Up, Me Against The World, Dear Mama, Papaz Song...anyone can relate to those

Thu Apr 28, 2005 12:15 am

Dear Mama

Thats one of my fave pac songs of all time, its great (Y)

Everything They Owe.....i think that goes at the justice (lack thereof) system

"Imagine if we could go back, actually talk to the motherfuckers that persevered. I mean the first motherfuckers that came in the slave ships."

"Claimin that we all drug dealers with empty souls"

"Picture a life where black babies can survive past five"

Sounds directed at blacks to me.

Changes.....that's a general song, not strictly for a black audience

"Cops give a damn about a negro? Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero."

"I see no changes. All I see is racist faces."
(racism can go both ways, but when Tupac talked about it he meant whites discriminating against blacks)

"And although it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready to see a black President."

"And still I see no changes. Can't a brother get a little peace?"

Also sounds directed at blacks.

 no no you're missing the point! He made it for suburban white kids and Asians, don't believe the hype when you miss a rent payment you quality to be able to relate to all 2Pac songs. Actually, if you're poor then what the hell are you doing buying CD's to begin with.

What's wrong with that? It's not like hairstyles are destined for certain races; just the other day I was reading about how a white girl got suspended for having cornrow'ed hair.

No matter which race Tupac directed his music towards, it still affected just about every race.

Thu Apr 28, 2005 12:34 pm

But face it XianeX, some hairstyles should be 'destined for certain races'. Non-blacks look riduculous with rows. It's not racist, it's true. Do-rags look riduculous on anyone, IMO.

Teh only reason I said that was because coolmac said he'd nevver hard of an asian wigger.

I've said that. What races it affected is not what teh disscusion is about, what race it was directed at is teh discussion.

corn-rows look alright on some white folks....they just gotta have thick hair....kinda like dreadies, not everyone can have them

While I agree that hairstyles such as cornrows look better on african-americans, that does not mean that asians or caucasians or any other race shouldn't be allowed to have it. Doorags look just fine on most people, that's just a matter of opinion, though.

Thu Apr 28, 2005 4:48 pm

doorags suck, it's like women stockins strapped on the head. And cornrows are an african american hairstyle, white people's hair isn't fully capable to be cornrowed perfectly

You have artists such as: Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Three 6 Mafia, Lil Jon, Ludacris, Outkast, T.I., Lil Flip, Young Buc, Ying Yang Twins, David Banner, TRU (Master P), Lil Wayne, Yo Gotti, Trick Daddy and that's just a few. I have yet to name R&B singers like Usher and I don't know where alot of R & B singers live so I can't speak for them as I can for rap.

so what you're saying is popularity and club records makes rap better? Most people in the clubs don't know shit about rap music so that's bs.

And what about listing even SOME of New York's good rappers? The south can never take over.
That doesn't still include West Coast rap. I don't think the west is as powerful as it was but it still is bigger than derrrty south

No, you putting words in my mouth. The west coast and south is better than the east. Jay-Z retired basically and the most popular people out are 50 cent, jadakiss, fat joe and nas. I also forgot to mention 8-ball and MJG from the south. I like the west music alot more than the east with snoop, ice cube, the game. and if you notice, the west is doing alot of songs with the south. ice cube with lil jon. The east has some good rappers because I listen to a few of them, but alot of East rap isn't that good. It's hard to explain, but with the exception of the few rappers I named from the East, the rest is pretty sucky unless I forgot some names. Pharrell is one of the best producers out there, but he isn't informed as a rapper. If we had this coversation about 3-5 years ago, then the South wouldn't really be anywhere, but the South has came too far and I know that the South is very strong and is taking over the music charts.

Take a look at this top 50 Billboard chart. You see more South rappers/singers on it than East or West.

http://billboard.com/bb/charts/hot100.jsp

The South has variety, you just don't see one person name on there a bunch of times like you see 50 cent name.

Fri Apr 29, 2005 10:38 am

A lot of East rap isn't that good!!! What the hell are you talking about. My top 5 of rappers is 100% East coast. And there's porbably only 3-4 rappers that aren't East that I would stick in my top 30 (2Pac, Cube, Scarface, Andre3000)

You're implying that because the South dominates Billboard charts and popularity, they are better than the East or West. I love some rappers from the South and they definently put out the most party tracks but you're saying that they're better than the West and East? Hardly. Take a look at that Billboard chart and tell me how many of those South songs you could consider "good" hip-hop. I'd be surprised if you could find 2. You only mention East Coast rappers (50 Cent, Fat Joe, Jadakiss) who are better known to the general public and that makes it seem like you don't know some of the better hip-hop artists from the East (I wouldn't know that many because I, myself, mostly stick to West Coast).

No, I'm not implying that, noticed that I mentioned that after what I've posted. I didn't think to bring up the billboard charts until after I posted it and edited the post. I can't name every rapper that's in the East like I can in the South because I don't live in the East. I can give you several songs on that list that are considered good hip hop, but good hip hop is considered different to some other people. So what's my opinion over yours or anybody elses?

If I only mentioned the most popular East Coast rappers, then if you could imply some more instead of saying it makes it seem like I don't know some of the better hip-hop artists from the East. I know you said you don't know that many yourself, but why bring up the fact if you don't know that many yourself. You know more about the West and I know more about the South so that point is cancelled out. The argument will never be settled, but it's nothing wrong with discussing the topic. I don't think I can change anyone's opinion and no one can change my opinion. The only thing I can look at is my opinion, facts from the billboard charts, listening to the music myself, and checking out things on music TV stations such as BET and MTV. That's how I see it.

Fri Apr 29, 2005 3:11 pm

You said "50 Cent, Fat Joe, Jadakiss" And they've all got/had better rappers in their groups. 50 had Banks (mixtape Banks), Joe had Pun, and Jada has Styles. But surely you know of the great artists the East (by East I mean New York). From the origins of rap in the 70's with Bambaataa and them through the Golden Era of Rakim, KRS, and PE. Through the Native Tongues like Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Through the gritty Nas, Mobb, and Wu era. To even the shiny suit era.

damn, the east is extremely surpreme these days. id like to add Immortal Technique and of course Cormega to that list, 2 of the best rappers nowadays. also add Talib Kweli and Jedi Mind Tricks. no other coast can come close to the east rite now.

Correction. "no other coast came come close to the east in any time period.

Cormega for sure, you like The Testament?

billboard charts and MTV DO NOT point out the best rappers, I've never considered MTV rappers as the best ones. East has far more and better material, you don't see Redman, Wu-Tang on MTV do you?

I say Texas has best material. One word: Scarface.

Actually I have seen them on MTV because when you have access to it all the time, you will see them. Of course I don't see them now because they rarely have anything coming out and they are out of style IMO, especially Redman. I wouldn't say nobody really listen to them no more, but I know their days are over unless they come out with a good CD.

Ok, so why wouldn't I know Banks, Styles P, and Big Pun is dead now. This is what this whole thing started on, about Tupac being alive and now you bringing up Big Pun. I know about Banks and Styles P, but Styles isn't in his prime anymore and he has to be in his upper 30's or so. I wouldn't consider Banks the best rapper on G-Unit. Young Buc is the much more thuggish rapper out of all of them. Now, rappers like KRS 1 lmao, I consider them pretty funny as well. They seem so ol' skool and I really don't like their style.

It seems like more people from different countries are saying these rappers and right now, some of those rappers that you all named currently don't exist in the rap game no more or just haven't been out for awhile. Some of them have been out last year or this year, but alot of them I haven't seen or heard from them in years. That's why I say the South is CURRENTLY on top and if all those rappers were still doing the same thing they were doing years ago, then the East would own no doubt.

Sat Apr 30, 2005 9:07 am

nope, as we already pointed out the southern rappers cant come close to them from the east, just face it. and i (we) dont mean legends and whatnot but the rappers that are still in the game (eg Cormega, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks) theyre better than each and every single rapper from the south. period.
