Here's your answer. Both of them.

I'm all for punishing drink drivers in a manner appropriate to the situation, but surely there's no way they'd be charged with attempted murder. If there's an accident and someone dies, I assume they'd be charged with manslaughter at most on top of criminal negligence or whatever else they get charged with in such a situation. Unless they had intentions of killing the person in question - you know, actually attempting to murder them - then there's no reason for an attempted murder charge.

grin's actually has it right. lol
There's a notion in BC that drinking drive is treated as a murder attempt, pretty much.

The term "attempted murder" means you intend to kill. I'm pretty sure the guy who hit my friend wasn't crashing his SUV on purpose. He was just drunk as fuck. He also refused to take a breathalyzer test, which is a pretty sure sign he was pretty drunk. I'm pretty sure Andrew has it right here. No one died or was critically injured so it isn't a murder/manslaughter case.
NovU wrote:Surprising how lightly those drunken drivers were punished. Perhaps there is a loophole in the law or the government doesn't really enforce it
If it happens multiple times then there are more severe consequences. IIRC from Driver's Ed, if you're caught drunk driving several times, only then do you permanently lose your license. If you're ever actually sentenced to time behind bars, it can take a really long time. After my mom was rear ended in November, there was a hearing in MAY to determine whether the other lady got jail time (for drunk driving, driving with expired license, and refusing to take the breath test.) She didn't get any time.
NovU wrote:Anyways, your friend truly was lucky to get away without a severe injury. The insurance will handsomely pay for his injury I presume.
Her insurance paid a lot of money to fix the bumper on our (at the time) two-month-old car and to pay for the therapy my mom had to get for her back. Insurance needs to stop paying on behalf of drunk drivers.
Yeah, my friend said he looked up at the rearview mirror about a second before it happened. It's a scary thought- a big Ford Explorer speeding toward you from behind and there's nothing you can do. He's actually a lot better already.

Tip: You need to learn more when someone like z02 is schooling you about legal terms.

Yeah... And at least there's things I can learn from him.

After this big storm we had today, there are considerably less trees upright than there were before and a lot more lying in my neighbors' front yards. They said the storm looked like a cross between a tornado and a hurricane that came and went in about five minutes.

Drunk driving shouldn't even be a crime. And it's certainly no excuse to violate rights in the name of greater department revenue.

The fuck is this supposed to mean.

It means they have nothing to talk about but the weather.

I think you would regret that purchase once you move into adult life and realize you're driving around a rice burner with a hood scoop and a giant spoiler
Tue Aug 16, 2011 11:44 am
yeah that's one of the things i don't like about it is the spoiler the wrx has a smaller spoiler which i think is way better

i have been driving the same car since i got my driving permit 10 years ago, so i'm ready for something new/fun to drive.

Tue Aug 23, 2011 11:00 am
The banana is "raw"?
Tue Aug 23, 2011 11:29 am
I would understand if you went ballistic at him for serving dirty banana q, but a "raw" one and lashing out at him ? Way to go big man jettdaking.
Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:36 am

Why does the ETS secretly run the country? 400 dollars for the MINIMUM number of tests i need to be a teacher.
Thu Aug 25, 2011 7:32 am
Is that a legal or credential requirement?

credential but thanks to current legislation: no new teacher can be hired without certification.

Yup, my wife is currently going through that too.
Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:54 pm
It might be different in SC and NM, but certification isn't really what I would consider "credentials" as it's a legal requirement. For example, here in God's Paw anyone can sign up, pay the $90 or whatever it is and take the two certification tests. Then you're legally certified to teach in the State of God's Paw. (And in the olden days, in many reciprocal states.) You're just not going to get hired at a public school because you don't have an education degree and the CBAs require them so they can shut people out of the cartel who didn't go through the proper route.
That certification does help you substitute teach though since it eliminates paperwork. $75 a day after taxes for doing no work! Get a job teaching at a college two days a week and then you're rolling in the money while doing absolutely no work!
