awesome man, better hours too?

Re: The Good News Thread

Thanks, but probably not better hours. I might be 9pm-5:30am or 11pm-7:30, etc. My current boss is pretty flexible since I do a good job, and I don't get in trouble for coming in too late(3-4 am, hehe) as long as I don't do it a lot or let the department look like crap when the store opens. At the new store, with new bosses and co-workers, I probably won't be having anyone looking up to me as the smart guy who can do everything. For all I know, it's a bunch of people just like me.

I just found out yesterday, even though I haven't been officially told about it yet(email h4x0rz). Since I'm officially part time, but work a department that requires 40(full time) hours a week, I basically get to work full time even though I don't have full time status. That basically means they can schedule me as low as 24 hours if they needed to, which they probably will at the new store.

I actually interviewed for a bigger promotion, but I was talking to the field specialist who offered me the position and he said "this is the next step, and we'll work with you from there." Since this new store was just built with the corporate office on the second floor, it's make it or break it.

Oh, and we are getting closer to going on strike, apparently.

Ahh, I get to relax today after finishing another 60 hour week. They're killing me but finally coming to an end. I'll try to make the most of my one day off before another week at work.

That's a brutal work week.

Yeah, it's been very brutal the last six weeks with the peak being the last couple of weeks. I'm naturally on salary, as most professionals are, so no overtime pay or time in lieu. I know it's been testing my wife's patience with me working during day & then often starting up again when they go to bed & working till 1am. But yeah, after doing this for the last 4-6 weeks, I know I don't want to be doing this for my career so need to do something differently.

Ahh well, pay reviews next week so hopefully has been worthwhile. Sadly I don't think it will be as much & I'm just a sucker for punishment. Money isn't everything. Not worth giving up your weeknights & weekends for, especially if you want to keep a family together.

But yes, the good news is I am enjoying the day off today.

Same deal for a lot of my friends. The theory of course is that the salary makes up for it but hearing about some of their working weeks and you describing your recent work schedule, I'm not convinced that's necessarily a fair tradeoff. It's something you don't really have to worry about when you're self-employed, but then there's the little issue of the buck stopping with you and not getting paid if you don't work. ;)

In any case, hope you've been able to enjoy your day off and recharge a bit. I don't envy that grind.

The grind will be done by about Thursday (for now) since that marks the end of financial year. I have also indicated to my wife that I'd pull back on the extra hours.

No no, that niceness you're feeling is because of Jim Croce. All of it from Jim Croce.
