Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

From the sounds of it, there's definitely more to Jericho's return "promo" than meets the eye, if indeed he was intended to get heat at the end there. It certainly didn't match the tone of the videos though and perhaps didn't get quite the reaction they were hoping for. Depending on where they go from here, it could be a clever way to get the returning face pop out of the way and get him right back into a heel character, quite possibly for a feud with Punk. I personally won't say they botched it just yet because there is some intrigue there, but perhaps a little mishandled.

considering he was able to from omg he's here face, to kill him heel in this promo

and that he's done similar turnarounds too, I dont know if overly hyping the crowd for 5 minutes was worth it.

What comes next better make up for it. Great to have him back, of course, but it'd be a shame if they completely bungle his return angle.

im not really surprised with him not saying anything, they tend to like to write in mysteries like that so there will be lingering questions for next week to get people to tune in

also, kane out of the ring was lame. taker's done it before and after him pulling diesel during a match

i could see both taker and HHH returning at the rumble like Booker & Nash to set up a WM match

Given that I fast-forwarded through more of it than I watched, I'd say they already have.

good point by my friend from college (and WWE/UFC fanatic)
i think hes gonna turn heel and this whole thing was a parody of what babyfaces do to get over.. he'll come back next week and call everyone stupid for cheering for him for no reason

and i am a huge fan of the Bella Twins' outfits (Y)

Yeah, I'm starting to see where it's going as well. It seems like an awesome heel promo is coming.

I'm actually impressed with what he did. Crowd pop slowly died and then turned into boos.

i like the throwback to the Lionheart days in WCW where he'd lean up against the rail and let the fans touch ihm

There is a wrestling event coming in Manila this Feb 4. Will have former WWE superstars like John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, Chris Masters. Still thinking if I am going to watch it or not.

Based on the internets, Jericho not talking is his way of mocking the 'voice of the voiceless' catchphrase by Punk.

Miz "took him out" a few weeks ago, in reality his contract was up and he didnt renew.

Interesting...it does seem a feud between the two is inevitable after the back and forth on Twitter. Working everyone to plant the seeds.

Where have all the jobber's gone to?

As much as great of a wrestler Daniel Bryan is, he is not over with the fans and Mark Henry is entertaining in the commentary since he is dissing of Micheal Cole.

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

Daniel Bryan not being as over as he should can be attributed to Cole's character burying him in commentary and the WWE making him an afterthought for months after winning MITB. He should've been booked to look like more of a force leading up to his title win and Vince has to change Cole's role and character on commentary for the good of the product in general.

yeah DBryan was jobbing for people a month or two ago while he was running around with the briefcase. imagine where the miz would be today if they had him jobbing for scrubs after winning the case last year

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

Sat Jan 07, 2012 10:13 pm

The problem is most of the guys that job are stuck in Superstars.

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

They didn't necessarily have to feed jobbers to Daniel Bryan to make him look good. Giving him angles where he looks strong and ultimately goes over established names to solidify his place on the card - or for that matter, making sure he's on PPV cards consistently - would've helped in the lead up to cashing in the briefcase. Instead, he was kind of an afterthought for a while and working dark matches before PPVs before finally re-emerging and ultimately winning the World title. It's great that he has the belt and didn't lose it in a week, but they didn't handle the build well.

It's possible they intended to build him up more leading to Wrestlemania but Mark Henry's injury forced them to adjust their plans and fast track the title win, but even so it could've been handled better. Perhaps they're encouraged by what happened with Sheamus, who won the WWE Championship from Cena out of nowhere and kind of in fluke fashion but did ultimately get over as a bonafide upper card/main event character, though he's taken a step back recently. It could work but they need to give Bryan a credible reign.

Sun Jan 08, 2012 2:35 am

but still you need jobbers to make somebody look good or strong or whatever. it could have work with Mark Henry last reign and not just every week facing orton or big show or bryan every week on smackdown leading to whatever match he will have on the next ppv

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

Sun Jan 08, 2012 9:14 am

A wrestler looks a lot stronger when they go over established workers rather than just squashing jobbers all the time. That was the problem with Sheamus' first reign, all he'd done was squash people that were jobbing and beat up the semi-retired Jerry Lawler. Credible wins over credible opponents is what really builds up a character for a strong push, especially when they're a smaller wrestler like Daniel Bryan.

They're off to a good start.

Either he's turning heel, or he's fucked. No way he's getting over as a face with that routine. Why can't this company book small guys decently as champs for once (see: Mysterio)?

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

Tue Jan 10, 2012 8:54 am

It worked for Punk, so perhaps they will go the heel route with him. It's not like smaller champions can't be credible; Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels come to mind.

Re: Professional Wrestling (WWE, TNA, ROH, etc)

it does look like he is turning heel, especially with the way they did the segment on Raw.
and after weeks of hype, Brodus Clay's original gimmick was taken by Mark Henry, they gave him a Flash Funk gimmick? wtf?? but i got to admit it was pretty entertaining though. it was better than your average squash match.
and Jericho did a repeat of last week, doing the Big Show imitation (smiling and slapping hands) but this time fake cried in the ring like faces do when they come back or retire. man this is gonna be great when he starts calling the fans hypocrites and troglogdytes.
