Wow. Didn't know those are the games you get for free. That makes it almost a no brainer to get PS4 if such high end titles will be available for free for PS+ members.

Really? That's dumb as hell then. Thought it was one of the new perks of Xbox Live.

I thought it was a half-ass way of saying "look we do that too"

It's one of the perks of "we hope you keep/forget your Xbox Live account ongoing so you say 'welp, might as well buy the Xbone since I'm already xboned out of a years subscription'"

Recounting the story of how they went from 4GB to 8GB, Adam was actually at Gearbox (Borderlands), with Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox, telling him, “If you go with 4GB of GDDR5, you are done.” Following that statement, Boyes says that the entire room of about 30 people added in that “you guys, you never listen, you’ve never been good at this stuff.”

After hearing this, Adam says he had a mini-breakdown, and it wasn’t until he reflected on this and asked himself the question, “Are we going to be the best console in every single category?” before things started moving, because “the answer used to be no.”

So, Adam went back to the developers about the possibility of doing 8GB of RAM, getting responses like “that would be incredible.” He then took all the feedback to Tokyo, got the thumbs up, and the rest is history.

Kobe Christ a PS+ subscription is like a Humble Bundle sale for the PC. Get lots of games for only under $5.

except no DRM at all, and PS4 is only getting 1 game a month for a bit, limited cars and tracks Drive Club then indies for a bit. I wonder if they'll continue with PS3 and PSP/Vita free stuff.

Online passes not allowed because "users are already paying for online": http://www.giantbomb.com/podcasts/sony- ... /1600-504/

BOOM.

EDIT: Note, this doesn't apply to subscriptions. So if Activision wants to make it so you have to pay for Call of Duty Elite to play COD online and eliminate 90% of their userbase they can. Or if EA wants to do the same for Battlefield or Madden or maybe some kind of "Origin" account or EA Sports account to play whatever online, that's also not covered.

It's just the "u bought used SO PAY UP" online pass system.

Aren't PSN+ free games have expiry date which is the end of PSN subscription, differing from games you buy outright from PSN. I heard the games you got for free however become playable again once you sign up for subscription again. Sounds like a fair deal to me though, considering quality of available free games occasionally. I am guessing it's their approach once again for the next gen.

I am just hoping for the Xbox One to put up a enough fight so the market stays affordable for us gamers. I really benefitted from recent years. Can't remember the last time paying more than $30 for a game in exception of 2K13.

I may be wrong but this is my understanding. Your games are tied to the PS+ status on your account. Once you activate them on your account you have them as long as your PS+ is golden, but you don't get any games that were gone while you not a PS+ member. There may be some specific exceptions to this. (Notably the free games given out after the hacking outage, and I think a couple were also made free for good if you registered it.)

Sony's games are old, like Microsofts, but Sony's been giving a lot more of them and newer and better. Ass Creed II and Halo 3 is like three or four games back in both series. XCOM is recent, Deus Ex, Uncharted 3 and Saints Row The Third are the last games in the series, etc. (I assume like Steam sales and humble bundles and Amazon deals, some of these are specifically timed to get you to play the last game before the new one comes out...Saints Row for example would be a situation where someone might go, maybe I'll try this since it's free. And then they see the IV trailer. Bam they pre-order.)

I have to imagine it drops off some with next gen, but they might do Gaikai bonuses or something for backlog titles in exchange. (So maybe something like you get one PS4 game, a couple PS3 and Vita games, a PS2 and PS1 game.) Depending on how all that works obviously.

I drove all the way out to Seattle on black friday but all the copies of 2k13 were sold out at $20-$25(ps3) price point. Then was forced to pay $40 on sale in Canada. Then really didn't like how they wanted me to pay extra for VC. Myplayer still wears a same shitty white shirt and blue pants because clothing cost 7 days of VC farming unless I cough up more dollars.

Re: PS4 Announcement Thread

I just buy them while naked on Steam when they come out at 1PM. (Except for 2K9 where they forced me to get dressed and go to the store, and 2K13 where I took a stand and waited until it was $15 on Amazon like a month later or something.)

I got to try PS+ after the hacking stuff went down. i got the 2 free games that everybody got, which stays with you. they also gave a free PS+ month and I downloaded Sonic 2 and another game i can't remember which were free for PS+ members at that time. after the month was up, I couldn't play those games any more.

PS4 Press people denied r/Games Reddit interview questions, while Xbone Major Nelson took them on.
[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
What's funny is we had an interview set up with Sony and after reviewing the redditors questions they declined to do the interview because they didn't like the "hardware" questions... but XB gets flamed daily. ooh internet :)

[–]sighclone
So Sony denied to allow you an interview?
Lame.

[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
Yes. They first wanted to pre-screen questions which we agreed to; then declined us an interview after reviewing the questions...we were shocked to say the least. In regards to what kinds of "hardware" questions skydart had them on her list. But MS opened their doors and gave us an exclusive interview with Major Nelson upstairs... they treated us like any other major news outlet. They got big points for that in my book.. I'm probably still buying a PS4 though :-P (PC is still where its at though.)

[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
My best guess to this was A. there wasn't a person who could answer these questions thoroughly enough or "that person" was too busy for "our" interview... or B. They've got plenty of good PR on reddit without having to actually address anyone's concerns regarding their console...

Nelson and Xbone interview in the Xbone thread.

So is Playstation Plus mandatory to do anything online? Or is it only required for specific stuff?

RedPhazon8 wrote:So is Playstation Plus mandatory to do anything online? Or is it only required for specific stuff?

PS+ is required to play multiplayer games, except for Free2Play and MMORPG games (monthly subscription games).
Free PSN accounts can watch Neflix, Music Unlimited, etc, the apps like that.
We do not know if PS+ is required for the UStream, video sharing, or other UI features.

They should of kept it the way it was before, it would of made getting one an easy decision for myself.

my understanding is everything stays the same as before, except needing to pay for online multiplayer, except for F2P and MMOs

it would be stupid to not charge for multiplayer again. think about how much money they are leaving on the table

Re: PS4 Announcement Thread

Mon Jun 17, 2013 4:53 am

IMO, its not as much of money being left on the table, but paying for all the additional features they are providing for online.

Re: PS4 Announcement Thread

Hey, free-Netflix(if true) alone is worth more than the cost of PSN+ subscribing fee. I see where they're going with this. They're at least being reasonable with this move imo.
