Re: Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Right now for me it's Late Registration > College Dropout < Dark Twisted Fantasy < Graduation < 808s

But it's reeaally close between College Dropout and Fantasy, I should to re-listen to College Dropout, because this one is really outstanding.

College Dropout is easily the best album if you ask me.

Nah. Dark Twisted Fantasy is definitely his best, and Late Registration's better than College Dropout as well.

sorry, but there's no way that you could call this the best album with Graduation out there. this is easily the least impressive out of the 5

College Dropout is great, but it isn't focused enough IMO, the album doesn't hit me as much as Late Registration as far as the overall atmosphere goes, Late Registration is a masterpiece from beginning to end.

I was wondering, isn't there a Hip Hop thread around here ?

I think there was, but it died out because of all the drive-by shootings.

College Dropout has the right mixture of HipHop & Soul samples. Late Registration's great, too, don't get me wrong, but I name you some tracks that are Kanye classics for me:

"Two Words" <- College Dropout
"Jesus Walks" <- College Dropout
"All Falls Down" <- College Dropout
"Slow Jamz" <- College Dropout
"Workout Plan" <- College Dropout
"Family Business" <- College Dropout
"Through The Wire" <- College Dropout

Whereas on Late Registration for me the best tracks are:

"Diamonds From Sierra Leone"
"Roses"
"My Way Home"
"Touch The Sky"

But it's all a matter of taste I guess, but especially "Two Words", "Slowjamz" and "Jesus Walks" are Hip Hop masterpieces!

Idc what anybody thinks of Kanye. The guy can be a little over the top sometimes but hes just speaking his mind. Which is what he did with GW Bush, Taylor Swift, and Matt Lauer. The timing of his comments towards those three were off but Kanye is Kanye so just accept him for who he is because he is the type who will never change to impress anybody. And I admire that about him atleast and his music of course.

Like the time he said that all books are worthless during the time he was promoting his own book?

Two Words, Jesus Walks and Through the Wire are hip hop classics, the other ones you cited are kanye classics (Except maybe for New Workout Plan, it's really good and hilarious, but I wouldn't call it a classic, the song is a bit too long IMO, the end drags on a bit too much for my tatse, and the lyrical content isn't good enough to be considered a classic IMO). And I'd probably replace Slow Jamz with Spaceship in that list as well.

On Late Registration, there are a bunch of classics : Touch the Sky, Roses, Diamonds, Hey mama, and all of the other songs are kanye classics, except maybe for a couple of them. Really sucks that We Major is so damn long, as I would also comsider it a classic if it weren't for this.

But anyway, to me it's not a song-by-song comparision that tells which album is the best,it's the overall feel of Late Registration that makes it better to me, I find it to be more cohesive and an all around better listening experience.

Judging by your avatar, I think we might have quite similar taste, so I'm wonderin what hip hop albums you consider to be hip hop classics (Like, really classics, something like a ten album list)

Mine would look like this (In no particular order):

Things Fall Appart - The Roots
Black Star - Black Star
Be - Common
The Blueprint - Jay-Z
Illmatic - Nas
Train of Thought - Late Registration
Liquid Swords - GZA
Late Registration - Kanye West

With extremely honorable mentions to :
Black Sunday - Cypress Hill
Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
Reasonable Doubt - Jay-Z
The Infamous - Mobb Deep
Ridin' Dirty - UGK

And fuck it, I'm also putting the albums that I could consider classics once they pass the test of time :
Below the Heavens - Blu & Exile
The Ecstatic - Mos Def
Death Is Silent - Kno

No mention of Heard Em Say? One of my favorite Kanye songs.

Late Registration was a better overall production but I don't like the style of the songs. I liked the style and sound of College Dropout better. That's just my two cents. My favorite track from Late Registration was probably Hey Mama and Roses. The difference with College Dropout is that I liked most of the songs, especially Last Call, Get Em High and Two Words. I think it's a personal thing though cause as you can see, some people like the horrendous end product known as 808s.

Re: Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

College Dropout > Dark Twisted Fantasy > Late Registration > Graduation > 808s

That would be mine. "Jesus Walks", "Slow Jamz" are just insane songs. Right now I can't stop singing "Power", "Monster" and "Blame Game" ...

Then well, I could be hours here, "Touch The Sky", "Diamonds From Sierra Leone", "Drive Slow", "Flashing Lights", "Homecoming", "Good Life", "Stronger", "I Used To Love You", "Heartless", "Amazing", "Love Lockdown"... not afraid to say Kanye is my favourite artist of the last couple of years, despite you guys knowing me of a house / techno / electronic music guy.

Actually, Heard Em Say is the opener to Late Registration (after the skit) and also one of my favorite KanYe songs as well.

Honestly this cd ranks 3rd for me... But I have loved every Kanye cd that came out so far even 808s.. This cd is great, I still like College dropout and Late Registration a lot more... Then this one, and afterwards 808s and last Graduation (even though it has my favorite Kanye song ever, I wonder.)

Those 5 albums though will probably all make my top 10 favorite hip-hop albums of all time. I just love everything this guy makes.

the only things keeping graduation from greatness is the worst kanye song ever: Homecoming or whatever with that lame coldplay guy. and drunk and hot girls couldve been better. i was expecting a lot from a kanye/mos def collab. i dont like i wonder, but nothing really makes me hate it. its just there.

for me, it's graduation, a tie between college dropout, mbdtf, and 808s, then late registration. late registration has songs i really like (especially the skits... broke phi broke lol), but not enough as a whole to really blow me away.

my high points by album:
grad- stronger, good life, cant tell me nothing (and the bajillion remixes), bittersweet, flashing lights, everything i am (love the beat), champion, the glory, barry bonds. big brother is ok, not as annoying as thre other damn songs about jay-z who is overrated

dropout- get em high, spaceship, all falls down, slow jamz (was overnight celebrity on it too? cant remeber), we dont care, two words, family business

mbdtf- runaway, all of the lights, hell of a life, blame game, gorgeous, dark fantasy, devil in a new dress (love the beat, much like old-school kanye), power

808s- heartless, love lockdown, robocop (this song is hilarious), amazing (i can actually listen to it again after the nba killed it), paranoid, coldest winter

Devil In a New Dress is really nice, some soul sampled classic Kanye beat.

Overnight Celebrity is on Twista's LP iirc.
