I hate Outback Steakhouse. Least authentic Australian themed place ever.

It was ok, not great. Not something I would buy again because of the cost. Lunch was almost $9.00 vs. McD Angus burger combo meal would only cost me $5.99.

OK That list is terribly biased. Of course a Hardee's monster thick burger is going to be more unhealthy than a salad. The two can't be compared!

It's not "biased" that's also a 1035 calorie salad with almost as much fat as a Baconater.
If anything it's poorly designed bar graphs and a limitation to only select items on a menu.
It is a good illustration of how un-heathen the Double Down actually is though.

You'd be surprised how many people think the blatantly standard American cuisine it serves is natural Australian cuisine. All the Australian themed junk on the walls and words are deliberately intended to mislead.

...and Outback is also shite expensive (here).

That just makes me sad. Nothing says Australia like an Alice Springs Quesadilla. A Mexican meal named after a city surrounded by desert in the dead centre of Australia. I think we have like 5 Mexicans in the entire country.
"Bloomin' Onion" hand carved by a "bloomologist". I might have told you this before, but over here "bloomin'" is used as a replacement for words like "bloody" or "fucking"... i.e "bloomin' hell" instead of "bloody hell". So essentially the onions are carved by a fuckologist.

But they put "BLOKE" and "SHEILAS" on the bathroom doors!
If you're interested, here's the menu:
http://www.outback.com/menu/menudescriptions.aspxThis is what most of them look like outside/inside:
http://www.cardenco.com/projects/restau ... house.htmlTo be fair, they do import and serve a large number of Aussie beers. (Not just Fosters.) Although, that along with the decor and lingo, is about all it has to do with Aussieland. A lot of the food has more to do with Southern American (Southern U.S. that is) cuisine, or even Creole influences, than anything you'd find in Aussieland.

The New Zealand Rack of Lamp does sound about right, except probably just plain mashed potatoes. Although NZ isn't in the Outback at all

Neither is most of the menu or Australia for that matter, so it fits right in.

The very first thing on the menu fails the True Blue Aussie™ test.
Grilled Shrimp On The Barbie
Sprinkled with seasonings and delicately grilled. Served with remoulade sauce.
Prawns. If you want it to be authentically Australian, you call them prawns. Or better yet, Fuckin' Prawns, but that's not particularly family friendly so I'll let that slide.

I can understand the shrimp on a barbie thing due to Paul Hogan's TV ad shown in the States.
Sat May 29, 2010 10:15 am
Oh, me too. But like Fosters, it's one of those great Australian myths.

Holy shit.

The people demanded it and by Thoth, they got it.
Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:36 am
This place is still a Third World country unless they serve that here.

Nonetheless, the Double Down Sandwich still isn't here.
Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:28 am
Still, it doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility for something like that to become a reality.

Saw it in a commercial of Manny Pacquiao's fight (hi Lean!).
