Top 20 Video Games of all time (based on how much of my time they've eaten or how much i love the game; also rank has no bearing aside from #1)
1. Super Mario Bros. 3-As many have said before me, this is the game that all video games should be based on. Its fun, has a sense of humor, tons of levels, different modes, mini games, and even is...*drum roll* challenging!!! to this day i havent beat it without cheating. and btw Tanooki Suit > Racoon Leaf: you not only could fly and spin like the racoon but could turn into an invulnerable statue for a short time
2. World of Warcraft-Gonna agree with Donny here about say what you will, all MMO's will always be measured against WoW. Its a great finished product with more depth than most games i've ever played.
3. Carmageddon-This game got me through high school without killing anyone. It is my therapy. There is nothing better when you're mad than running over pedestrians and destorying other cars for money
4. Sonic The Hedgehog 2-In my opinion the second best platformer of all time. The multiplayer races on top of the 1.5 controls in 1 player mode (a friend could play tails not die and kill things for you up until the sky chase level) Great great game
5. TMNT 2: the Arcade Game- I never played it in the arcade because my mom wouldnt give me enough money. But when I was a kid without game genie i got to shredder before getting my game over.
6. Double Dragon 2-My 2nd favorite beat em up game of all time right behind TMNT2. It doesnt get any better than billy and jimmy beating the shit out of everything else that moves. or on two player b mode, everything that moves.
7. Shenmue-I've beaten this games more times than I have fingers and toes and still havent seen everything. Its also beautiful with a great storyline. It was a dagger in my heart when Shenmue II was announced to be xbox exclusive.
8. NFL2k series-Sorry Madden afficionados, 2k was always the best football game i've ever played and remains that way. From the customization available to in the last version the crib points you could deck out a killer apartment with: i've played very few things as much as i've played this series
9. NBA Jam T.E.-It just doesnt get any better than BOOOM SHAKALAKA...HE"S HEATING UP...then shooting halfcourt 3's with Larry Johnson for the next 4 shots. Arcade sports at their pinnacle
10. The Legend of Zelda (NES)-This robbed me of countles hours of my life and still remains the only zelda game i've had the patience to complete.
11. Contra-Nothing better than a good old fashioned side scrolling shooter. And without the cheats, this game was next to impossible. Amazing game
12. Jammit-A street basketball game for Genesis that i owned. Sure the controls were terrible, the games unrealistic, and only 3 playable characters. But i was 9 at the time and it was the first trash talking game i'd ever played. Amazing.
13. The Neverhood Chronicles-One of the few Adventure filled with puzzles game you'll see on my list. This game is one of the few games (aside from the next on my list) that has had me on the floor laughing. A little bit easy on the 2nd or 3rd time through but this game took me forever to beat the first time. Great great game.
14. Conkers Bad Fur Day-Foul Mouthed squirrels encountering other foul mouthed or sexual characters, rife with funny movie parodies, over the top violence, and a hella good multiplayer mode? Rare took a swing at it and succeeded with flying colors. Dont forget Greg (Death) who hates cats and the professor...
15. Perfect Dark-Everyone else likes goldeneye better: i was never a bond kinda guy so Perfect Dark gets my nod. Same engine plus greater graphics and cooler weapons...it gets my vote. The best move i ever did was spawning behind a friend during multiplayer after i was blown up. Disarmed him and shot him in the back of the head before he knew what was happening.
16. Streets Of Rage
17. Golden Axe
Other than the settings these games are very similar and are 2 of my favorite beat em ups of all time...The chick kicks people in the nuts in SoR and Golden Axe has a dwarf with an axe...just amazing games
18. Donkey Kong Country-The game that redefined platformers and DK as a character. One of the few games I'd play on SNES at friends houses when they had it.
19. Simpsons Arcade game- I spent more money in this machine at 5 years old than any other. I realize how god awful it is now. But beating people with marges vaccum, homers stomach, barts skateboard or lisa's sax is just so fun
20. Soul Calibur-Just the greatest fighting game ever. Dont get me wrong, i love the SF II (if this list went to 25 it'd be on there)...but soul calibur is by far the most engrossing fighting game where i truly cared if i got good. Graphics are beautiful, decent storyline, great moves. Fuck yoda and darth vader tho

Love the game too, when RPG is still up for the PC. Though I never finished any of them. I didn't get past Sundanesselar (the next area / chapter after the Underdark in BG2) since I got stalled with the dull colors of the Drows. Edwin is a better NPC than Aerie, IMO, since he's got this sub-storyline and can memorize a lot of spells.

And yeah, tried to play Throne of Bhaal too, kickass battles. :headbang:

my major complaint with bg2 was that all the best ncp's were evil.

Edwin and Sarevok for that matter, and they tend to leave the party if your main character is a goodie.

I never really took advantage of that ability of the Tanooki Suit. I think the P-Wing was the most useful aspect of the game since it could be used to fly over most levels entirely, which was very handy in the final World.

illin... err... drgonzo, beating smb3 without cheating is easy when you have the secrets (not cheats, per se) memorized from the Gamepro magazine spread from back in the day like me.

It's not as easy as that video I posted makes it out to be though. I'm certain he's using a cheat device; the timing you could get with practice but he also appears to pass through enemies and enemy projectiles.

Ah Adventure Island, the NES' adaption of Wonder Boy. Being much younger when I first encountered those games I always wondered about the similarities. It wasn't until I looked them up much later that I became aware of the history.

Damn. Contra, I missed the good-old-B-button-smashing days.

Also played Shining Force I. Great strategy/RPG game, with a freaking boss in the middle of the game (that lightning-casting mage Mishaela).

I have beaten it, albeit using the warp whistles and on the enhanced version that appeared in Mario All-Stars for the SNES. I knew about the warp whistles and other secrets before I got online though.

I was referring to the speed run though. I believe the person who recorded it was using a cheat device with the way he didn't take any hits despite seemingly coming into contact with enemies and projectiles.

-Crysis
-S.T.A.K.L.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl
-Mass Effect
-GTA Vice City/San Andreas
-Call Of Duty series
-Max Payne 1 & 2
-Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
-NBA Live 03 & 04

Retro gaming is one of my guilty pleasures. Even with an Xbox 360, I'll still pull out an old PC or even an N64 or SNES game every once in a while and play through it again.

A couple more from the NES era:

The Flintstones
Image

Memorable for the mini-games on the map that gave you bonuses for playing one-on-one games of basketball...or whatever they were branded to tie in with the Stone Age theme of the Flintstones.

The Jetsons

Another platformer based on a classic Hanna-Barbera Cartoon.

Well, it would be if it was the cover. I was intending to use a gameplay screenshot for the Flintstones game as well but all the ones I found wouldn't work with the IMG tags because they contained the "&" character. I couldn't be bothered saving them and uploading them to imageshack with a new filename so I just went with a cover shot instead.

So far I've played many games and I'd say my favourite belongs to that list

- Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare
Simply incredible. Probably one of the most interesting and immersive FPS ever. Having a great soundtrack, a great scenario and charismatic characters, this Call of Duty 4 is absolutely awesome. You gotta play it. Too bad that the Singleplayer is quite short because I think this could have been even longer, but while playing on the Veteran difficulty, the levels get really tough to finish, so I think it's worth it. Oh and multiplayer does the rest.

- PES Series.
I've been a fan of these games since the first ISS on PlayStation. Based on a solid simulation, quite good graphics for that period, it was an indispensable game for all soccer fans.
Best PES are without a doubt PES 6 and PES 5, although the 4 and 3 were also great.
I won't say PES2008 because I found too many bugs, a bad AI (I'm wondering if the computer is kinda... well, idiot, and actually the game itself is too easy, getting 3-0 or 4-1 or even 6-0 all day long...)

- NBA Live 2004, 2005
I loved these games. Especially 2004 for its patchability which made the game look incredibly great, and 2005 for its cool gameplay. I had really fun playing with these games.
I did like 06 for a few time but I didn't play it that much. Didn't have time to play any basketball games for a while actually so I think I'm gonna get onto it again as I'm currently on holidays. :)

I think that's all for the moment, if I remember of any other games, I'll post them. :P

Better add the Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutokou Battle series. Sure, the gameplay is pretty repetitive and low-quality, but for some reason, they are immensely addicting and enjoyable. It is always fun improving your tuner little by little and beating all 400 racers in Tokyo. :)
