As for defences, obviously the defence wont be applicable if you didn't fulfil the elements, same as all defences.
However once the elements are fulfilled (ie. a 14yo having sex with a 12yo) it becomes legal due to the defence.

But that's the thing, he doesn't necessarily know how to plan and throw a good party so much as he knows how to create a riot. He put an open invitation on MySpace for people to come and "trash the average-sized family house". That's not a skill, it's a desire to cause mayhem.

It must come down to his "popularity". The promoter he's just signed with claimed he's now widely popular with 13-18 year olds, so I guess he figures if nothing else his mere presence at an event with his name on the marquee will be enough to bring people in, while more experienced people take care of the finer details.
