I wouldn't say it's standard sitcom fare, I think shows like According to Jim, Grounded for Life and Still Standing (to name a few that have come and gone) are more worthy of that assessment. But I definitely agree that without John C. McGinley's delivery any attempts to prolong the series would fall flat.

New episodes begin January 6th. The season premiere marks the beginning of Courtney Cox's three episode stint as the replacement Chief of Medicine.

I've been looking forward to it too, no matter how they decide to end the series (or at least these character's run on the series) I'd like them to do so with a full run of episodes. The persistent rumours of further seasons (or at least one) with a new cast are a bit troubling though, however you may feel about recent seasons I imagine that Scrubs: The Next Generation would be a lot worse.

did I say that I was pissed that JD has a 5 oclock scruff beard now?

ok, well Im pissed about that since I got dat.....b b b b astard

So yea, I have the longest hair of my life (~2.5 inches) and of course have my scruff beard because I hate shaving everyday and I bet I will get plenty of shit about looking like JD from the kid I work with tomorrow. Kathryn already made fun of me.

I really liked the first episode, I laughed more than I thought I would. The 2nd one was a good episode imo but too deep for the 2nd episode of the season me thinks.

I was an idiot and read all the show descriptions for the next couple of weeks, if you want to be smart, just dont do it.

Looks like this season should be a really funny one.

Caught the first two episodes this morning. I also really liked the first episode, shaking things up a little though I'm sure they'll restore the status quo when Courtney Cox's stint wraps up and bring back The Janitor. Pretty fun all around, loved the bit with the coffee when JD and Dr Cox were talking in the cafeteria. Some classic Ted moments too, Sam Lloyd was on fire in both episodes.

I liked the second episode too and it was an interesting choice to cut out the main cast except for Turk and JD but it reminded me a lot of how M*A*S*H would sometimes push members of their ensemble to the background or leave them out of episodes altogether to focus on a story with only a few of the main characters and a couple of recurring ones. I'd agree that it was perhaps a bit too much of a contrast to the first episode, a bit too deep but it was a pretty good demonstration of the show's range.

Pretty awesome premiere IMO. Loved the first episode, and the second one had its funny moments too (JD imagining old lady's hair blowing in slow motion.)

Agreed, I like how they'll make fun of themselves like that (they did it in the premiere too with Dr Maddox's first appearance). Much more appealing than other shows that have taken to devoting half their episodes taking shots at other people.

Anybody watch episode 3 and 4?

Re: Scrubs Thread

Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:50 am

Yup, I thought they were pretty good, but maybe not as funny as the first two episodes.
I liked how the HR person was distributing paychecks "Oprah-style": you get a paycheck! and you get a paycheck!...
How Courtney Cox was let go did seem pretty rushed though...

I actually thought they were pretty funny. JD's Elliot fantasy in episode four has to be one of my favourite Sarah Chalke moments, too. :cheeky:

A bit risky them going down the JD/Elliot path again but it looks like they're going to handle it a little differently this time. I liked the nod to the Ross/Rachel parallel as well, though they've done that before. So far, I'm really liking Season 8, kind of a shame it will be the last (at least with the original cast) but it might be a fitting way to end things.

"-Do you ever think of me that way?

It was good

I have only seen episodes 3/4, but so far, I've thought the new season has sucked. All of the Janitor's lines have been cringe-worthy, and pretty much all the jokes fell flat. I'll still watch it obviously, as I love Scrubs, but it will be hard.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:51 am

Really? I'd agree the Janitor is getting a bit old, there's only so many times he can be a bastard to JD or completely weird before it loses its impact but on the whole I reckon the season has been pretty good so far.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Latest episodes were pretty good I thought, loved the scene with Kelso and Jordan in the second ep. If they do a ninth season with a new cast, I kind of get the feeling the new interns might become the regular cast but I still don't think it would be a good idea. If the original cast isn't coming back, let this season be it.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Sat Jan 31, 2009 5:42 am

didnt like 5 and 6 much.
Wasn't so funny as the first episode.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Sat Jan 31, 2009 8:12 am

Yup, I thought those last two episodes were not quite as funny as the previous ones. It does look like they're gonna give those interns more and more of an important role in the series. Like you said Andrew, it'd obviously be quite a letdown if the best members of the original cast did not come back for any subsequent season...

Re: Scrubs Thread

Sat Jan 31, 2009 10:47 am

I really could see them at least considering doing a ninth season with those characters and while they work as recurring characters, I wouldn't be moved to watch a season with them as the focus.

Re: Scrubs Thread

Mon Feb 02, 2009 3:15 pm

That's doubtful. The intern actors aren't even signed on to appear in every episode remaining this season. Especially Aziz, who's going to be filming the Office "spirtual sibling" starting this month.

Oh, I guess there's also the fact that Lawrence said this season is the final one.
