Well as far as the Wii having wifi, i had to go and spend 30 bucks more to buy the LAN adapter, because i dont have wireless internet. So to me that was crap. They couldnt include a lan input on the system too??? Not everyone has wifi, but i will agree that the MS wifi is a ton of money.

I still dont agree that xbox costs more, it does if you want it to do all the things the PS3 does, but there is something great about choosing what you want your system to do, rather then having to buy it no matter what. I could care less about HD-DVD or Blu Ray for that matter, so i personally dont want to pay for something i wont use. If i bought a PS3 i would be paying for the Blu ray movie player and wifi connection that i wont use at all. Where as the Xbox 360 gives you the options to buy it if you want it. If PS3 made a 400 dollar system where you could add these things, that would be better for me. Its all case by case really.....someone may take advatage of a few things added into the ps3, and some might be at a disadvantage having to buy things in the ps3 that they wont use.

In other news the Xbox 360 Premium is only 320 bucks, free shipping, no taxes at amazon.com. This is a great buy if you want a next gen gaming system only. Sure it only has the 20GB hard drive, but ive played tons of games on mine and im still around 6 to 10GB space left depending on how many demos i have on it. PS. 20GB is actually about 12GB when it comes down to it.

I've owned both consoles, had a XBox 360, now have a PS3. I like both consoles, but got rid of my 360 due to it not being region free so I couldn't play games like College Hoops & other titles. That was about the only reason. Here are my unbias thoughts:

Xbox 360:

Pros:
- Good selection & range of games.
- I like their wireless controllers. They feel good to play with.
- Games are easier for developers to design for, meaning the console should have a very good gaming lineup in the future, including some good exclusives.

Cons:
- Not region free. It might not be a problem for Americans, but for Aussies it's a real kick in the guts.
- Very unstable system. I had to return my first 360 within the first day or two due to scratching the discs so badly that it couldn't read them.

Neutral:
- No HD DVD Player added in. It would've been nice if games could've been HD DVD rather than plain DVD. But it didn't bother me as I didn't need it to play movies. Most people have console for gaming anyways.
- Xbox Live. I didn't really like it. A lot of lag playing sporting games. Probably due to lack of service in Oz, who knows.

PS3:

Positive:
- Region free for gaming, which is huge IMHO.
- Blu Ray games, meaning they can hold more content. Sure, it probably only means a few more CGI bits get on a game, but better for developers to have a little breathing room I guess.
- Potential for improvements in future.

Negative:
- I think the Sixaxis controllers are pretty mediocre & flimsy.
- System is apparently harder to design for which is never good news.
- Some of sports games run at pretty crappy frame rates. Hopefully when it's bumped up to 60fps & if they stop porting the 360 titles (important, as I think this is a big reason for problems), then it should get better.

Neutral:
- Blu Ray Player built in for movies. There's no guarantee it will be the only playback system & if & when it becomes popular, Blu Ray players will get a lot cheaper anyways.
- Not a great gaming lineup, but it's still early.
- Lack of exclusives, doesn't bother me.

But yeah, both consoles are good. I'm just hoping they build games specifically for PS3 & stop porting them & iron out some teething problems. But I don't regret getting one, it was the ONLY option due to 360 not being region free.

Without coming off like I have a terrible motive in mind, does anybody know if or when blu-ray discs will be able to be burned?

Mon Aug 20, 2007 7:19 am

high end sony laptops are being sold now with blu ray writers and blu ray dvds are sold in stores now. all u need is a mod chip

blu-ray is probably pulling ahead for the format wars so it looks.

I like the ps2/ps3 controller, I really like the fact that it's bluetooth, it's light because it has no rumblepad, it's rechargable without buying a stupid kit, and you can replace the battery if it goes bad so you dont need to buy a whole new controller.

The choice of having what you want in your console is stupid if you make it cost that much money.

PS3 has it all bult in, wifi, blu-ray, sd card reader, etc, xbox 360 doesn't, but if you buy it you have to plan on spending almost double for your xbox 360 just for the hd dvd addon.

PS3 isn't harder to develop for, it's just new cell technology that cross platform game developers don't really care for taking the extra time to use the potential.

Remember madden 06 on xbox 360, and all the complaints it got about crappy choppiness? The ps3 is less than a year old of course it's not going to be figured out as much as the xbox to run at higher fps, nba live 08 is the first sports game higher than 30 fps for ps3.

Hey, here's a big selling point too, rockstar can't fit all of GTA IV on the x360's DVD format, so GTA IV in HD will be PS3-EXCLUSIVE.

-----

Adding an hd dvd player is stupid because it's just an ugly external drive and it's very expensive, if ps3 had a separate blu-ray, it would ber a lot more expensive, i don't even know how they built it in for so cheap (blu-ray players are over-priced?)

But blu-ray isn't an option, the ps3 is geared towards HD/the future, blu-ray is a MUST for the HD audience they're aiming for, most everybody has an HDTV nowadays anyway, except maybe in a college dorm or old people may not have one.
-----

Also, I watched 300 (blu-ray), and that movie's amazing, I reccomend anyone who hasn't seen it to go see it right now, I loved it.

Weird to say on a day when two studios dropped it for HD-DVD.

Um, no. That's just fanboy dreams.

I got a PS3, I had a 360 & I can safely say, they seem pretty even, both with their pros & cons....I'd say at this point, 360 is better, but not by much....I don't see why people ride or deride the consoles too much....I think you can't lose with either really....

No way man, maybe you live in an upscale part of town where having an HDTV is part of "keepin up with the Jones'es", but the number of people that own HDTV is way, way, way, less than you think. HDTV wont become a standard for another 2 years, at least IMO. Not until you can buy a decent sized HDTV on the cheap.

The best way to choose the system for you is to see witch controller you are more comfortable with, I got the 360 because I have big hands and PS3 controller is to small.

This'll certainly give the PS3 another pro:
PLAYTV UNLOCKS FREE DIGITAL TV ON PLAYSTATION 3
Watch, record and replay TV shows on demand

Leipzig, 22 August 2007. At Games Convention today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced the introduction of PlayTV - the software that turns PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) into a Personal Video Recorder (PVR). PlayTV will be available in UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain early in 2008, with other PAL territories to follow in due course.

With the ability to watch, pause and record live TV from a huge range of free channels, PlayTV reinforces PS3’s rightful place in the Living Room at the heart of the family’s entertainment needs. Whether it is recording a programme whilst watching another, simply recording a entire series1 at the touch of a button or for watching programmes on the go via remote play on PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable), PlayTV offers a simple solution to it all.

I wonder how much the 'tuner-box-thingy' will cost though.

Edit:
"The problem with the DVR is that the U.S. doesn't have terrestrial digital television yet, so while some cities like San Diego have it not nearly support in the U.S. to make it worth the effort for Sony. When that changes, and it will, Sony will be on the ball, Harrison said."

LMAO, or maybe the color of the system so it matches your other electronics nicely. Both controllers are good. PS3 dpad is by far better, Xbox 360 fits your hand like a glove. Otherwise i would say they are even besides those 2 things.

I think the biggest factor is how much you want to spend, and which games you want to play the most. Both systems have their advantages.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 8:36 am

i dont know, i tend to agree with the controller being a big selling point. i hate the 360 controller where i love the ps3 one. not gonna say its the number 1 thing to look for but i know i take it into account.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 12:46 pm

I loved ps2 controllers and worried about using the xbox 360 controllers before i bought one, but i adjusted and like it better. It might be a big deal to some, but i think anyone can adjust to either controller well.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 2:48 pm

I've been high on the xbox 360 in this whole debate but i realized its time for a ps3. my 360broke in july so i sent it in and today i get back my new xbox 360, and when i go to plug it in it doesn't work. I tried it in multiple outlets and the power still would not work. so i guess there gonna send me another new one, and i decided im just going to sell it and buy a ps3.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 11:20 pm

Yay, the PS3 is a compuer, console, and now a tv. soon it will have a tv on it.

With ps3 games like Lair that was supposed to be a hot game, getting 4.9 ratings, and other hot titles like heavenly sword managing a steady 7, its pretty easy to see xbox 360 is the system to get. Which has Bioshock, that gets 10/10. Xbox 360 also has alot more quality games. Where as ps3 has Resistance and ninja gaiden. Its kind of sad to see those hyped up ps3 games get crappy or decent ratings. Especially when xbox 360 has mass effect, halo 3, and other games around the corner. It also doesnt help ps3 that the multiplatform games run better on 360, or come out weeks or months later on ps3. To me its easy to see which system is better, which system is worth getting. But some sony fanboys are blind to those facts, and they keep buying into sonys "we will have good games in the future" "we will be the best system in the future".....ummm....there isnt going to be much of a future unless you get something going today. So far they havent done anything as far as i can see. They still want you to buy their system that costs more then any xbox 360 system, that doesnt run games as well, gets games later than 360, and only decent games to buy are resistance, and ninja gaiden which is a very old game. I probably sound like an xbox 360 fanboy...but i had a ps2, and was for sure getting a ps3.....but looking it over i changed my mind, and i couldnt be happier. Even though my system broke, i got a 3 year warranty that comes with every 360 system, and i got my system fixed, free, in 9 days and got a free month of xbox live gold for my troubles. So far i havent had any issues since i got it back.

Only fanboys fight over consoles. Anyway, some points are moot when three things are factored in:
1. The best version of BioShock is the PC version.
2. Neither console argued over in this thread possesses METROID PRIME THREE.
3. The PSTriple can save lives and cure diseases, the Xbox360 cannot.

Fri Sep 21, 2007 2:26 pm

Phew...good thing I scrolled a little lower on this section before actually making a thread (spared any flaming I would have received). For a while, I was talking about how I don't need and want a next-gen system. But more and more, I've been looking at games, how much better looking things on the next-gen consoles look compared to anything my PS2 and laptop/PC (I don't exactly go out of my way and try to make my PC a hardcore gaming device, nor am I a PC gamer. I only play FIFA 07 and CS on my Comp), and its making me sort of actually want to buy a next-gen console. Here are the factors I'm considering while thinking of wanting and getting a console or not.

The consoles are all expensive, costing minimum $300 Canadian, and it's my parents paying for the system. I could pay part of it, but they more than likely wouldn't really support the idea of me even buying a system nor do they wanna pay a crapload of money for it.

I'm in my last year of high school and marks and what not count, so I'll be doing a lot of school work and not going to have a lot of time to do some massive gaming. Also, even since like Gr11, I havent really touched my PS2.

And if I was to actually getting a system, the Xbox 360 I've been reading has that huge red ring of death problem thingy (which is a basically a hit or miss problem according to consumer opinions I've read, you either easily get it or you have basically no problems with it), many accounts of people getting the red rings when they got the brand new system right out of the box. There's also reported or confirmed, news of new units with better hardware with this HD-premium thingy with a newer heat sink (not that I know what these new changes are about, but all I know is that the new heat sink thing is suppose to fix a huge problem that 360s encounter) that are going to be shipped out. It's also weaker than the PS3, but its also cheaper. And I dont want to have to pay for a subscription thingy like Xbox Live to play online (never played online on a console EVER, so I don't know if I got one of these consoles, how often I'd be playing online). As for the PS3, it's still sort of new and the hardware inside the thing is still like the "first generation" stuff, so like its filled with all the bugs that could be fixed in later editions of the system with newer hardware/hardware upgrades. Also, at this moment, its games are not on par yet with the Xbox 360. I'm also afraid (this holds true for both the Xbox360 and PS3) that it games and what not the system puts out will look like crap if I don't have a HDTV (heck my family still uses a normal TV, its not even flatscreen, forget LCD or plasma  ). The Wii is sort of an option, but the only thing I'm really actually looking forward to on the Wii is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I mean the Wii is nice, and also the cheapest of the three but I feel that I'll need to be playing with others to have fun with the Wii.

Two questions also I want to get answers to:
Do you need to pay to play PS3 online (like Xbox Live)? I'm not familiar with how pretty much you play ANY console online as I have never done so, so yeah, some answers to that would also help for that question.

Can anyone tell me about the modding of these new next-gen systems? I never got my PS2 modded so I don't know crap about modding consoles. If people can tell me info about this topic, that be great (unless its against the forum rules, then an admin can politely remind me that this isnt allowed :) ).

Sorry for those who read this and thought there wasn't really much of a point and pointless rambling, but if anyone has advice for me, please say something.

Fri Sep 21, 2007 2:39 pm

I feel that I'll need to be playing with others to have fun with the Wii.

Wrong! Resident Evil 4 Wii. Zelda. GameCube games like Wind Waker and Metroid Prime! Super Paper Mario. Super Mario Galaxy. MOST IMPORTANT TITLE EVER: METROID PRIME THREE!

You could also get some friends, as Wii Sports is the greatest multiplayer game for people with tangible friends in the history of the world ever. Or something like that.
Do you need to pay to play PS3 online (like Xbox Live)?

No.
Can anyone tell me about the modding of these new next-gen systems?

I doubt this is allowed.
As for the PS3, it's still sort of new and the hardware inside the thing is still like the "first generation" stuff, so like its filled with all the bugs that could be fixed in later editions of the system with newer hardware/hardware upgrades.

It's also built like a tank, few people have them break down, unless they're Korean and attend Rice. PS3's technology is as old as the 360s, new versions of the hardware will obviously fix problems. But if you do not want to wait five years for them to iron them out.

Yes, especially if you have a dx10 card for the water effects or whatever is rendered with dx10.

But I don't like bioshock because I'm not a fan of scary games (it's not bad, I used to play the suffering on ps2, but I didn't play it alone because my stuff is set up in my basement and my basement is scary, and when I have time to play a game it's usually at night) , but I have played with a friend.

2. Neither console argued over in this thread possesses METROID PRIME THREE.

I don't know about metroid prime, but neither console as super mario ;)

3. The PSTriple can save lives and cure diseases, the Xbox360 cannot.

False, my PSTriple tried to kill my cat.

Sun Sep 23, 2007 6:18 am

Well, the original Xbox had that warning that it falling could cause serious injury to small animals or children....and the PSTriple has Folding@Home, so why it may kill your cat, millions will live!

Sony announced today the 40GB PS3 will go on sale in Japan beginning Nov. 11. The 20GB and 60GB models, both still available in Japan, will have a 5,000 yen ($43) price cut next week. This means that the prices for the PS3 in Japan will be 20GB at 44,980 yen ($384), 60GB at 54,980 yen ($469) and 40GB at 39,980 yen ($341) yen. The 40GB is cheaper than the 20GB version, however it will lack backwards compatibility, memory card slots and a couple USB ports.

Sony is also unleashing a white version of the 40GB PS3 model for Japan in ceramic white. It will cost the same as the regular black PS3. A white DualShock 3 controller will also be available to purchase beginning Nov 11. If Sony can't offer consumers backwards compatibility, might as well razzle dazzle 'em with new colors.

Wow that sucks. One of the big reason to get a ps3 is the backward compatibility. Becuase PS2 has a lot of great games. Ps3, not so much.

Wed Oct 10, 2007 4:55 am

Well, if you're desperate for backwards compatibility, don't get the cheapest version. And if you want all the nice features, then that's what the other versions are for  Besides, it still got backwards compatibility for PS1 games.
I was more referring to the prize..

Besides, the Xbox 360 Core doesn't offer backwards compatibility either, does it?
